Awesome, it's as if it was never rusty.  8)

That is amazing, can't believe it is already back together after seeing how bad it was. Awesome work Paul. Any idea on how many hours it took to get it back to this state?

Cheers

George did you source an early rear hatch or was that repaired? Same with rear beaver panel was that fabricated? I'm sure before we got to this stage some people thought you were crazy taking this on (I was 1 of them in the beginning), now seeing it like this though the hardest part is behind you. It will really be an amazing restoration story.

As it stands we haven't touched any un boltable panels. Just been working on the main body. We have now mounted the car on the jig with the sill clamps(now that we have sills) and will start on the front rails etc. After the body is repaired we will then move onto the loose panels. The hatch is not to bad and the rear beaver we used bits of the donor car to repair the original.

Great effort Paul :) ,

I fully appreciate the workmanship involved in transforming this car & it is a true credit to both the owner and restorer to get it back into shape this quickly 8)

Wow this whole project blows my mind.

People go on about skills and trades disappearing, then you see the skill and workmanship on this project and your faith is restored.

It gives you a good feeling.

This past weekend my wife and I went to Adelaide to see the car, attend their Datsun Day and do some sight seeing. By far the best part of the trip was meeting everyone. You guys made the trip worthwhile and we both wanted to say thank you for your hospitality.

On Saturday morning Paul met us at his chop shop. I was devastated to see that he had plugged up nearly all of my weight saving holes! The car is also missing that musty damp rusty smell I was so familiar with... I was far from pleased.

To his credit, the results are top notch and our working relationship has been a thing of beauty - much like our personal relationship...

On Sunday we went to the Datsun Day and boy oh boy there were more running Datsuns in attendance than I thought existed... The car scene in Adelaide is alive and kicking our Sydney butt. I was pretty busy chatting with people and only managed to take a handful of photos which I've attached below.

That afternoon I was fortunate enough to be invited to check out a couple of special cars. Many thanks to both hosts - your kindness was most humbling.

Hi George

(Corrected the slight error in your original post ;) )

Glad you guys enjoyed the trip to Adelaide, looks like the cars on display were many and of a very high quality.

Do you have any photo's of #00019 as she looked on the weekend ?

Cheers

Hey Pete,

Not much different to the pics above so I won't bother posting.

They're now working on the front end with one rail in place and the other to go in shortly. The radiator support is out and being replaced with one we bought many moons ago. The battery tray area needs plugging up along with some other holes in the engine bay and rear rails are going in shortly. Very close to rust free now and with all the correct holes only.

Struts were out 25mm and I'm told he has it within 2mm now. Can't complain there.

P.S. Thanks for the correction...  :P

Hi George,

It sounds like a great trip and your photos show some very nice looking cars.

The progress on your car sounds 'solid'.

Don't worry about the destruction of some of the aspects of number 19 - keep scanning eBay - I am sure somebody must sell "musty damp rusty smell" in-a-can now or hopefully soon.

Edit - The orange (Kalahari Tan?) 240Z in your photo looks like an 'early girl' - do you know anything more about it?

Sorry Ian, I don't recall who owns that one. Maybe one of the Adelaide boys will chime in.

Hey George,

Was a pleasure to meet you at the weekend - once again well done on some brilliant shots. I'm not surprised you enjoyed some of the cars you got to see after Datsun Day... I've been lucky enough to see them myself! Congratulations again on the progress of your build.. I've been following without commenting so far, so it's great to know the man behind "mission impossible" and great to see it being done!

GongZ - the Kalahari Tan car is around chassis #200 +/- 30 or so (I asked the owner but he couldn't recall the number) - it looks to be a very correct car except for a few minor details. The interior is complete including (what I think is) the correct radio and all the bits. Interestingly enough it has an aftermarket drivers side mirror haha

A few other early cars were in attendance, notably #184 (currently in a state of disarray despite being drivable) and #837 of those I can recall...

Cheers,
James

Was that the blue one that arrived in a cloud of black smoke?

That's the one! It's got custom airboxes on the triple webers, which are just open ended... haha. Features what looks like a 120y brake booster, array of strange additions to the L26 filled engine bay and a bunch of interesting features all over (thankfully no flared guards!). I think the owners are planning a restoration of sorts, so it's good to see it getting towards roadworthy, I suppose :/

Don't worry guys, Thats the last time she'll be out until it see's serious work. They are Works Airbox's, not running filters on that day for various reasons. As you might have noticed the motor is very far gone! Poor thing saw a lot of hard miles before it was put away. We've taken it to a couple of events since we took it out of the shed, but the novelty has worn off. Next time it see's a road, it will certainly be roadworthy. Also,According to My old man, the Booster is the original one :P

Sounds great Toby, hopefully I wasn't being too hard on the old girl! Good to hear it's going to get some love, can't wait to see the progress - just remembered you've got a thread going and everyone loves to see updates and photos haha

Interesting about the air boxes (cool!) and the booster... I've never seen one like that in a zed, would love to see a pic on your build thread and see what some of the experts have to say.

We've probably thread jacked George enough though - get some more pics up on your build thread and looking forward to hearing more!

Cheers

It was great to finally meet you and Kylie. Emails and phone are one thing but in person Is always better.

Shame you live in a non Datsun loving city. We do get spoilt with them over here. Not as many datsuns as mustangs tho.

As mick said you do take a good picture. Did you get any of Vaughens or Greg "Balls" Williams car.
