Ledge
Howdy All, Well some of you may remember a while ago i said i was keen to do a Z and finish it with Patina, Well i have just Acquired a car to do said thing. I know there will be Haters but for those of you that know what i do for a living if it turns out like the contents of a toilet then i Will just repaint it . Anyhow here is before. After will be a month or so away. Cheers Paul
luvemfast
Looks like a pretty good car to do a Patina project. Unless looks are deceiving......... Look forwards to see the results.
Roberto
Ah, that's the 260z from gumtree. I was surprised that it hadn't sold immediately as it was very well priced. I was seriously considering buying it, but my next z will have to be a 240Z. Good luck with the build. Looking forward to it.
JDSM
Pretty sure I just saw this car on the back of a trailer going down Cross Rd. Very nice, nearly snapped the neck looking. Will be much better with a deleted stripe, methinks. Good luck!
thriller
Very cool Paul! Saw this on gumtree a few months back, surprised it took so long to sell. Look forward to the outcome. ps. I hope that front grill is in landfill by now...
Ledge
The paint and body are average for my standard, could easily just leave it but always wanted to do a patina job, Yeah it was me on cross road jdsm. Glad you didn't stack i would have had to laugh you know. He had trouble selling it as the engine wouldn't run, Think i got there at the right time to grab a good deal. Its amazing what fresh fuel does to a motor. that stale 2 year old stuff not much good. You want the grill Ryan, come on be honest. Cheers Paul
zzzzed
Not fair Paul. You now have more zeds than me. I might have to sell my 1200 coupe so I can catch up

dat2kman
Have a play around with egg whites, handbrushed onto panels, many layers, let it sit in the sun. Then hit it with about 10 coats of clear. Try on an old bit of panel, ruogh it up a bit with 180 grit first Allow the coats of eggwhite to dry, give it about 10 coats. For interesting effect, try to get a hold of some fine mica flakes, hand scatter uniformly, brush off the loose bits, re use. Panel beater guy did this to a Gemini sedan, looked interstingly odd when done. Didnt last long, he then ripped it off, and hit it with electric charged "fall down" paint. Look at it from front, it was orange, look at it from back, it was green!
monkey
this'll be interesting to see, kinda looking forward to seeing it.
Fairlady Z
Damn you. so it was u who bought it. I gave him a call to have a look at it after lot of convincing my missus and than said he just sold it picking it up next day. dough. i was going to do something else with it not turn it into a rat rod. doesn't matter at least its still in SA and in good hands. I think the painted stripes and that picked fence alloy grill was biggest turn off for most ppl. did you pay the asking price or knocked a bit off? You can PM if you don't mind sharing. yeah Mick u better sell that 1200 and get a z. Its customary that every SA Z owner have at least 3 Z so we could equal the numbers from other state. U got to have Stock, Mild and Wild. PS: ledge with ur sheet metal skill why don't you do the chop top like the one from US? show the yanks we can do better and quicker. thriller
Chop top is a cool idea! Seen two that look quite decent. Personally I think big '70s style aero/kit would suit the faded patina'd out Z look. Like it's been stored outside a jap race shop for a few decades after being retired from active duty... IMSA style 3pc spoiler, type B flares, deep watanabes...
Ledge
Yeah i got the guy down a good amount actually, He was a great guy and i will be taking it back to show him when its done. Would be good to go down the top chop route but for me all i want at the moment is a Z to drive on the roads. As i said earlier i could probably leave it but i wouldn't be happy with it. Prefer to do something i have always wanted to try and if it stuffs up well i will just paint it one colour. Believe it or not the stripes will benefit my plans although i don't like them. Thriller made a good guess at what I'm doing. Will be making it look like a Barn find old track car, So number spot and number on doors and bonnet with probably the number 77 (year of car). Some advertising and i might find out what my name looks like in Japanese and put that on the guards with a flag All this will be painted on then block block block, scuff scratch rub, then when I'm happy PPG have a sweet Matte clear over the top. Also will have Some ZG flare action and bobtail in black and rubbed and scuffed. Dropped on its guts on some miss matched Rota RB's probably 1 grey 1 white and 2 black or something like that. Let the hating begin LOL If it looks pooh then a quick block and some 918 all over. Cheers Paul

Retro Z
No they didn't give an actual ETA. But i chose the 2-3 day express option through Smartsend. They picked it up at around 5.30pm yesterday so hopefully you get it tomorrow or Monday.
