I really enjoy my 240 but I honestly don't think I would pay the money I could sell it for. There are just better "value for money" alternatives Just lucky I bought it when I did.

Great point and it may be difficult with recent price hikes. I bought my 240 as a non runner with very little to no rust almost 7 years ago for $6250. Needed a motor and brake and suspension work. I don't think I could afford the same condition car now. Prolly closer to $30k odd. Doubling every 3 years is a pretty good investment but one that can't continue for ever I'd imagine.

Not sure I totally agree. I think it depends on the car, your available time, skill set and more importantly, your expectations. If you don't have much capital but time and skills are on your side, I reckon a project is the right option. It might be an extreme case but, Here's a link to a very rusty R100, the project is currently 15 months on and look at the results. Interesting, I have been looking for a new used family car, and searching all along the east coast. I thought a blue slip is all that's required to register an interstate car in NSW. Is it not? Is there something else?

Read my earlier post an others again. By winding your screws down will definitely richen your mixture at idle but maybe not at cruise or wide open throttle where the mixture is critical.

I don't think plug gaps are your problem, I also don't think the gaps you are talking about (.031 & .038) will make much difference. But, the upgrade of your pertronix system over points is not the only factor in plug gap. The plug gap needs to be crossed by the spark which is generated by your coil. If your coil isn't up to the job you need to reduce your plug gap. Plug gaps vary for a bunch of reasons but have a read of the link it is pretty well described. http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/spark-plug-gap-settings/ With regards to your popping and stumble at idle, read all the advice already given to you again. It seems that everyone here suggests you alter your air/fuel mixture. This advice is mainly due to the colour of the plug pics you have posted.

I'm not suggesting the needles are worn, I'm suggesting they are not the right needle for your engine. The needle is like the fuel jets on a Weber type carb. The taper on the needle regulates the amount of fuel that passes through the carby for a given piston/damper position. I think your needles may be too lean for your engine setup.

No your right, it only covers damage to the insured car caused by a collision. The PDS is a bit sketchy on covering driveline damage caused by collision. I get the feeling they are really only looking at covering bodywork.

Those plug pics look pretty lean to me, maybe new needles are required. Winding the seat down will richen the mixture throughout the range but mostly at idle as most needles do not have a linear taper.

How well do the original underdash ac units work? Does it make the cockpit cool on a 30+' day? I like the idea of AC but I'd want it hidden and to work well.

I don't hate cyclists I just don't like it that they disrupt the traffic and don't pay registration for the privilege. Many have no interest in following road rules, often causing issues that piss off paying road users. Cause they don't have rego plates they get away with it. Why should a motorcyclist pay rego and not a bicyclist anyway?

Thanks for your response Lynton, it sounds like you're in insurance cause that's just what they said Shannons and Famous actually both offer all those benefits, where they differ is the track day insurance which seems to be exclusive to Famous. I still haven't paid for it but I'm leaning toward Famous as I haven't heard/ seen a bad review yet. Cheers Mick

Insurance time for me. I have received quotes from NRMA (VVC), Shannons and Famous. With the recent hike in value, I decided my agreed value should be $55k which is currently the lowest priced Z on Carsales. NRMA weren't interested in that agreed value so they are now out of the picture. They did suggest i send some pics but i have been with them for 6 years with no claims and I got the feeling they were not providing a good service so i'm moving on. Shannons and Famous are similar in price at $449 and $425 respectively with excess at $300 and $400 respectively. They both offer full salvage rights at no cost and a free window per year. The main difference is that Famous also offer track cover. $10k cover for $100 per track day with a $1k excess, covering damage caused by collisions only. Whilst its not a massive return and wouldn't cover a right off or general mechanical failures, it sounds like it could cover a reasonable collision. I am thinking of going Famous and I was hoping you guys could provide feedback if you have had any good or bad experiences with Famous. Cheers Mick

The sellers description notes parallel bore. They are significantly cheaper than the Jenvey option but I am always cautious of eBay purchases. I know it's a massive generalisation but, typically I find products sold on eBay to be rubbish. Following this thread with interest.
