  1. And therin is our issue. Dealer options, vs dealer fitted options. All we require is evidence that a single dealer fitted particular items, to cars that he either supplied, or supplied and sold. Or Nissan Kapan, having supplied a car, able to be driven on public roads. Whether it was a rally car or a road car makes no difference. DT Dobie in South Africa, and a dealership in Woking UK, had, supplied cars fitted with items that were very abailable in the Option parts catalogues. They may not have been sold to mr joe public, but they were supplied, admittedly to some well known names, but more importantly, for use on public roads, and registered as such. An aside, Porsche 911's during period 1970-1976, were produced in Germany and were only fitted with 6" front and 7" rear rims. A single dealership here in Australia, then removed these, and fitted 7" fronts and 8" rears. MGB's, were fitted at factory with the SU 1" carbs x2. A single dealer in the UK supplied a manifold and twin 45DCOE weber, letters were subsequently produced stating that the single dealership also fitted this new aftermarket ( non factory option) manifold and 45 dcoe. The result of this is that here in Australia, the motorsport governing body, now permits all MGB and Porsche ( certain model) to use these items. Other categories of historic cars are permitted "model run on" features. Which has been invoked in some cars, ie inline 6 cyl 12 port heads, larger engine capacity in same body shell. Others have "tested" this, and have come up trumps!
  2. Alan, unfortunately you are not quite up to speed with the way the Australian authourity, under FIA works, along with the various Historic categories. That Jim Froulas car would not be accepted in any Historic race group here. I mention Group Sc, this is for Production Sports Cars, manufactured 1970-1976. They do not need a proven provenance, or any race history, but, They must be presented in same spec as they were manufactured, by factory, or, as they were sold, by an authourised factory dealer ( we have discussed this before) If it can be shown that say a S30 bodied car, or variants of, had fitted certain items, as per catalogues/option parts, or it was built with certain parts, not normally fitted to standard cars, then this sets a precedent for what we call " model run on" Ie, if say a 240Z had 7" wide rims, Sumi MK63's on vented rotors, then a 260 and a 280 in S30 body can fit these. It cant work "backwards" ie a 1975 280Z Fuel injection, onto a 1970 240Z. It would be interesting to be able to test the PS30 variant, with its twim cam crossflow triple carbed engine. Did these come fitted, by Dealer or Factory, with mk63's and vented rotors, and 7" wide cast wheels? 2 litre, then 2.4, onto 2.6 then 2.8, could then be allowed to run same cylinder head configuration. We have free bore size to carburettors, so 3x 50mm Solex's will be fine. Under model "run on" The body shells do not need to be designated Ps30. Should be fun!
  3. I know a few that use the Launch function, mainly at Mt Cotton hillclimb. The start line is on a concrete pad, often lots of tyre dust, and being concrete tha tyres just spin up, but you have broken the start light beam, and clock is going. Most fit a small push to hold button on steering wheel, and keep the rpms low, to suit their car, once away, onto the bitumen, before turn 1, release button and full noise. All it is is a "first" rev limiter, and then you have 2nd rev limiter. Both are fully adjustable! And the drag race guys use them a lot. Sidestepping/sliding foot off, clutch pedal at 3500-4000 is a lot gentler, than at 6500!
  4. I have Private Messaged you.
  5. Get that in writing, on the insurance company letterhead, telling you you do not need the various transport depts engineering approvals, for modded vehicles over xx years old. Post up a copy.
  6. If you buy one of these, watch that it is not the Chinese knock off. These work well, as does a lot of other similar items. I have a new msd6al2 ( USA made!) surplus that i can sell.
  7. I know, it's painfull isn't it. All this "hush hush, unless you are in the Cone of Zed Clubness" stuff. The bloke(s) involved have assured that all will be revealed,,,,, in time,,,, It wont be same as last time, but you wouldn't know, you weren't there, and by sounds of your plans, wont be around again. Why bother getting your Y fronts in a knot over it?
  8. Gavin, believe me, this guy only goes for genuine. Yes proper engines, and very unmolested cars. All of them. Is he going to race it? Well, getting it approved in Australia as a Group Sc car will definately have advantages for all other Sc Datsuns that are currently, or intend to race. Model and specification/eqipment fitted run-on rules apply. And yes, he's a racer. Flag to flag stuff, and drives hard.
  9. Hey Aubrey, That sounds excellent! Gives us forum non car clubbie types a chance to have a bit of a tour alongside the clubbie types, around the suburbs. And then we can come out and have a gentle play at Lakeside!! In our own seperate groups of 15, that we will assume QR will allocate us into!
  10. There were two of the 1970 2 door Skyline GTR both brought in to Aus at same time, One for said collector, and one for his mate, also a collector, and owner of a restaurant on Central Coast NSW. The z432 came in at same time. Now we start the task of getting approval from CAMS. To have it logbooked as a Group Sc ( post 1970 to 1076) race car.
  11. This, and a KPC10 1970 year model Skyline GTR have been added to Brian's collection. Far better than a z432 are three very unique one off original race cars.
  12. Anyone actually fitted, and then measured actual camber change achieved? Not just listening to their advertising/promo stuff. Pity they cant do a strut top that is multi adjustable /rotateable to effect cadter and camber change at same time. Kmac one gives caster/camber. Limitation is due to the narrowness of the inner guard shappe. Using smallest diam springs helps a lot.
  13. Took you that long to realise!! But hang on, which post was that?? Put up a map/layout of what you mean by G track! For those not familiar, Morgan Park, has around a dozen variations due to the number of interconnecting infield track sections. Sydney's Eadtern Creek now also has similar. You can, in some instances run two seperate stand alone events both at same time, if you have the volunteer manpower.
  14. Well, a bit different. No info on it. Possibly USA?
  15. Have a chat to Les about what was done to the crossmembers in the 1600's and Bluebirds. The "better " crossmember was out of the 1968 model. DMS at Wodonga is pretty cluey on this stuff, as is Al Stean.
  16. By how much front and back do you want to lower the car? What is, say heights to top centre of guard lips/arches? Or to bottom edge of folded lip/seam at very front and back of your sills. Sometimes you can get away with fitting some aftermarket heavy duty springs that are lowered all around, or just lowered at one end. Look up "King Springs" they have various options for the 240 and 260z
  17. The dirt and tarmac rally cars, Dato 1600's especially, benefit from having the LCA inner moved. In a 1600 it is up and out 10-10mm, as their steering geometry is a bit different. The readon for keeping the outboard ends of the LCA's at a pointed down angle, is to retain as much correct geometry change as pissible when going from lock to lock, during bump and droop. This is for cars that are lowered. One way to see the differences is to graph what happens to camber, toe and cadter, when you make one alteration at a time. This is done by knowing cars static ride height, jacking up, remove spring from strut assy, refitting strut, jacking on a pivoting pad the wheel/strut assy back to static height, fitting a camber/caster guage, taking an extrapolated toe measurement, then you start to turn lock. Back and forth, while raising (bump), and lowering ( droop) All covered in Freduhn's book, "How to make your car handle" Yes, another old fadhioned book. Nothing has changed in the cars in a long time, so still very relevant.
  18. Most just drop back to 4th, so you can accelerate out of turn 1 Car will get a bit floaty. Tight line nto it, as there is a slight transition hump where the emergency road continues straight ahead. Yes, i got the FOSC dates too, a good mix of events they are putting on.
  19. The mob that have run it in recent times Ripplstrip, are aka Adrenaline, they were the ones that lost the court case against Bathurst Council, recently, trying to stop the council from allowing other organisations, like FOSC, to run club level /grassroots events. A great pity, as FOSC, when they ran it, were only charging $800 or so entry fee for both race and regularity. Ripplestrip/Adrenaline come along, take out injunctions, that FOSC could not contest due to FOSC just not having the funds ( grassroots, all for the competitor, make no profit type of guys!) and had to walk away. They showed that they could get 750 competitors at $800 a pop, and it worked, didnt make any money out of it, no care! Not like Ripplestrip! They know that Race categories will pay more, so bye bye regularity giys! The closest "fastest - cos i got piwaz" track to Qld guys, is Eadtern Ck GP circuit. Contact FOSC, they are putting on five events next year, lots of Regularity, and very affordable entry. You can try Turn 1 at the Creek, in fifth, at about 6500 rpm.
  20. Check for spark, connect a spark plug to a lead, hold it to ground/engine get someone to crank it. Check for fuel supply into engine, are plugs wet/smelly? As long as timing, /distibuoto has not been loosened/rotated, and you have spark and fuel, it should cough into life.
  21. How "bout Lake Gairdner down in SA. Get you max speeds jollys there There'll be way too many quick cars that can turn, and stop, at Morgan Park next Easter, best not to get shown up! It'll be all Datsuns, and Nissans, no Chevrosuns, or Datrolets allowed!
  22. And didn't the current spec/modern Porkers get rather peeved off, when Geoff Morgan, in a 39 year old Group S ( standard production model, as sold by the dealets) annihalate the field,,, in Regularity. Now, who wants a well built Group S Datsun, one of the fadtest in the country! Current lap records held at 3 National circuits!
  23. Nup. No more regularity events. Too many idiots in cars that are not in controlled/known classes, using the most basic beginner CAMS license doing 2mins 30 second laps, wearing jeans and a windcheater. Categories like IPRA, Group S, Group N, Sports Sedans, Porky Cup, GT etc, cars are all built to a requirement, and are monitored/controlled. As opposed to the weird and wonderfully bizarre "once a year wannabes" that pop up,,, 'cos Bathurst! There's the benefit of using nationally recognised category cars, and if drivers are suitably licensed up, can race anywhere in both Aus and NZ on reciprocal arrangements.
  24. When you say your block is stuffed, what's wrong with it?

    Twin cam head

LY head is crossflow single cam FIA are in/out same side ( normal) single cam, used different intakes and exhausts. In both 6 and 4 cyl FIA heads were also done for U20. It was from U20 FIA was born L Series FIA, It was from U series alloy head design that L series head design originated. Funny to see everyone jizzing pants over very expensive Unobtainium, or Makitnewium.
