Forget all that fancy crap, unless you are down to chasing 10th's of seconds at a race track, and are an expert experienced driver. Just whack in some lowered h/d springs, and some quality one way adjust shockers, then get it front/rear aligned, by someone that knows how to fix minor Datsun issues. ( ummm, no, not you local 22 year old wheel alligner guy at garage around corner,,,,)

LSD Diff options...What can we use in our Zeds..
dat2kman replied to Mr240z's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
Be aware that with extreme use, a Torsen/ATB/Helical/Geared type ""LSD" centre will revert to Open diff mode, and not supply drive to both wheels. Extreme use such as, bouncing off kerbs/lifting wheels off kerbs, on race tracks, or, excessive opposite lock/sliding car sideways, whether on dirt or tarmac. There is a point at which the difference between Left/Right wheel rotational speed, that causes the gears in these to be released. Solution, keep ff the kerbs, and dont do wild opposite lock manouevres on dirt/tarmac, or spin out on corners. -
It'll be some cruddy zinc die cast composition material, hard to weld, But, could well be worth a try. Fitting another brand replacement could see the lever point centres slightly out compared to other two, and could be difficult to tune.

Well agree! Maybe I should'nt have bothered to spread the word about the Happy Laps component, and the pister, for this day, to the many other Datsun related forums/social media outlets. The Happy Laps component was recoeved quite favourably. That's the crux of the day, as far as these guys were concerned. They do not want to do Sprints, and that is understandable, when you know who and what you are helping promote to. Ultimately, it would be very beneficial to those guys, first and foremost, and then secondly, to ZCCQ, for them to experience a big Nationals, next Easter. The great majority are simply not Car Club Membership card waving types, and this is something that the clubbie types dont "get". They dont want to join up, they want the "looseness" that the whole social media scene seems to be. Its the new way. The numbers out there are from 300 to 800 Dato ( various) loving enthusiasts. Would you rather encourage to participate, even in something minor, or alienate them. I see too many blinkered straight down the line club card waving types, that are blind to this.

Richo, the 30th Weekend, next Saturday and Sunday, is shaping up to be a pretty good fore-runner, or tease, and to utilise the ability to promote to, and garner interest from, a large group of "newbies" has to be seen as fairly important. To then cancel a segment, that was aimed fair square at potential entrants, ( not us tried and tested old regular hacks), is not great " business" practice. All because of low numbers of pre event interest. You dont get it. These guys literally turn up, throw their $35 down, on the morning of the day. Will it be prifitable, who gives a razoo, the "profit" comes from how you manage and collect the information, of these guys. Dont do that, you've kissed the opportunity goodbye. You are supporting the club?, by running your Nissan SUV? There'll be one group of 13 Z's, four other groups of all mixed manner of various old and new, some Z's and other Datsuns, running, in the arvo. Should be the usual fun. As far as relevant info, being a CAMS Admin/official/elegibilty etc involvement, it's a pretty small circle of officials in Qld, that get to know what's going on, turned out an amount of suggestion/advice was offered, and then ignored, there are a few that are kind of like, " mmmm okay,, we'll do it that way, if that's what they want" You were not there in '09' some of these guys were on the periphery, why re-invent a wheel?

Called Risk vs Reward. Spend a bit of money, maybe not break even, but, the short and long term effects, if utilised correctly, can be very rewarding. It's called "Marketing and Promotion" I have nothing to market or promote. So bit stupid of you to suggest i get involved..... ZCCQ does, at leadt we think it does, unless they are cancelling the DatNats, due to lack of interest. ZCCQ advertised it was going to do something, the newbies who are still going to turn up on Sunday 23rd, to give it a go,and saw it on various media pages, have very little concept on this pre entry regime, they just want to turn up, see whats doing, and go for cruise laps. About 20. In Datsuns. That have also heard that a big event is being run by some people next Easter, for lots of Datsuns. QR runs these Cruise/Happy laps at many of their track days, and get heaps of cars on-track, the vast majority of which, would never contemplate entering a Sprint. Unless they got the encouragement to. Then again, 260det, we never see you at Happy/Cruise laps days, so your knowledge on the large untapped resource of other Datsun vehicle users, is, somewhat lacking. Pretty piss poor effort from a club that is running lead up events to a Nationals event in 2015. Or do they just want Z cars only,,,,, ( and tolerate the lesser Datsuns)

Yes, thread chaser for clean ups. Reason why the bolt got sloppy is due to the tap, on going into an old deformed by age/use threads in hole, recutting ever so slightly, a tap will cut full depth peaks and valleys, and will most likely "open" these threads up a tiny bit further. Taps/dies can be quite viscioys, as they tear, or re-tear ( in old holes) at metal, wheres a thread chaser is gentler, but they can still cut. I've been guilty plenty times running a tap in, but try to go by feel, and lots of gentle back and forth, work way in, pulli out, and spray wd40 and air gun the crud out bit by bit. Various thread locker or thread sealer componds are avail, some lock, some hold.

Hi Alexander, Unfortunately, No, we cant tell by looking. If it is out of car sitting on ground , bestest way is, fit an old clutch plate, with a white reference paint mark at a point, make a mark near on bell. Rotate plate 3 times, while box in first gear. The hard bit is, after a little dob of white penpaint mark on the bit of output, on one spline only, You need to see if it rotates almost one turn, or goes past one turn. Ie 3 turns in, in first gear, almost, or past, one turn out, Will denote either a 2.9 first, or, a 3.3 first. The 2.9 is the better box, after rebuild if reqd. Majority of 2.9 boxes had the filler plug on other side, but bells can be swapped, i dont go on that. Fitted to some 260z, both 2 and 4 seaters.

Wot breakfast? The scheduled Happy's were to be run from 11.30 pm to 12.30pm. Then Open Sprints from 12.30pm Their morning session is listed as Private Practice. Ah well, someone promotes something, people turn up to do it, as what usually happens at each and every QR run Happy Laps on the Cruise type days, and gets told, "nup sorry, we aint doin wot we said we would" Looks good, hey.

No Brad, they have their "by special invitation only" elite group of 13 Z's and 2 Mazda's. The rest of us plebs get to run in mxed groups. They got told by QR management to "sell" X no f spots for the Jolly Laps, but as usual, for these, the majority will enter on the morning! It's a huge financial risk, to outlay around a 600 and hope that at $35 a car, they tried to get the entries in advance, which doesnt occur. Shame, as the Jolly Laps had been heavily pushed and quite a few other organisations were also promoting those laps. The "special" cars will still be running, along with some 50 or so others in the Sprints Groups. Should still be a good day, as plenty other Dato's will coming for a look-see as to how the Z club does things,,,,,,

Now, Who's after a well sorted car, easily setup to run Tarmac events, and at 2/3rds the build cost? Car has jad very little use, and as a logbooked Group S circuit car, qualifies for standard/unmodified tarmac class.

Sleeves/collars for R200 crown wheel bolts
dat2kman replied to KatoKid's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
If they get any degree of looseness, the copper will pound out or deform. I knocked mine up on a lathe, bit of bar stock, drilled ID, turned to slide fit OD, parted off to 0.5mm mm less lemgth than depth reqd. -
Good move Executive. You will be getting quite a few turn up, based in interest from the spread on Social Media, about this day, and the ability to run their cars at the controlled Laps, as many are a bit daunted by doing outright sprinting. When these Happy/Breakfast/Display etc type laps are put on and run by QR the, selves at Lakeside, they know, and fully expect, the majority, if not 100% to Pay and Play on the day. That's just the way Happy Laps works. The lads at QPDC, DSOA, DuD's and the Qld Datsun club, that this was promoted to, will be like "What the pharque,,,,?" As a club, you keep cancelling these things based on purely monetary issues, as has been done a few times in the past, comes across to the outsiders, as pretty gutless to do things. What is gonna get cancelled at the 2015 Dat Nats, or will you pull the pin on the whole event. No forward promotion, has got many wondering,,, Now watch, the OAP det260 jump in the high horsey horsey,,,,

Mister Mech has advised you of current thicknesses, and what minimum recommended thickness is? You may find that an On-Board disc machinist will be able too take a very slight trueing skim cut, and they will still be fine. If they are close to min. The Min amount does have safety margin, and its not like you are running stocko solids. The Legend rotors are plenty thick enough. Throw in a set of new pads, just make sure they are what you have been using. Mis-matched material/compounds can cause large brake efficiency losses.

Whats the right LSD Diff and ratio for me?
dat2kman replied to twoforty z's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
TIR31 on here sometimes comes up with the odd DR30 diff to sell. The Subi STI diff is an option, but they sell for bit more than the 200-500. Have seen DR's go from 800-1300 They are a bit heavier, and stronger. As long as you are not silly on takeoffs, the r180's are fine. Roundabouts vs ferriswheels, r180 goes straight in, but need the special flange outputs. R200 needs the moustache and 260Z type click in outputs Both then use your existing halfshafts. Check ebay/gumtree, or see what pops up on various forums, -
I've offered some Kumho vV700's in 225/50 at about 60% tread left, at $80 per, But Lee is chasing something more worn, and more cheaper. Also have some Bridgestone RE55's in 205/60 that are at 50% Who's got what? He needs them fast!

As usual,,, Yes. Bring wallet full f cash. No-one in the Z club can help you out as quickly as on here, hey! Can not fathom how you managed to bugger it up on a balancer swap! -
A tap, or die nut, will cut a thread form, correctly, all the way to the root. A thread chaser will not cut to root on OD of chaser, and the valley form of chaser is clearanced to allow swarf/debris/dirt etc to build up, without causing galling of jammng. The ID of the finished hole, ie the tips or peaks of the thread inside the hole, will remain as originally cut. The converse applies for a Thread Chaser Die nut. I'm not keen on spiral taps, as they tend to hold cut swarf within the hole, a straight tap tends to allow swarf to drop out. Another hint, if using an engine stand, tip a block upside down, to allow the swarf/debris, to fall out due to gravity,. Be very carefull with airblowing, eye protection is a must, and after air blowing, run tap in again, as bits of swarf may have lodged within the valleys of the thread cuts.

Sutton or P&N Rather than buy a big set of assorteds, do the homework and just buy the sets in the sizes you need, to start with. Die nuts are rarely used or needed, maybe leave those, and their holder, for later. A 18th npt tap set is usefull too. Any decent nut/bolt supply shop will have the packs of taps, likewise the larger trade tool suppliers. I use a combo of "cheap" sets for general roughing out, and keep the costly sets away from heavy handed types, and use them carefully. A pot of Trefolex Thread Cutting goop is invaluable. Can be used for low speed drilling or lathe/milling operations. Do not breathe in the smoke if it gets hot. ( fitter and Turner tradesman here!)

Here's a joke. To get approval for rego/engineering, the little Clubman type cars, ie Westfields, Lotus, Fraser etc, have a requirement foe a folded metal plate apprpx 3" high, ( low top hat section) to be fitted along side of passenger compartment. By time it is fitted, at approx 12" from ground level, it aint gonna reduce side impact from anything, except a number plate frame. The side bars as fitted to the doors in the S30 cars, after car has been lowered, and lowered tyres fitted etc, will do slightly more that the Clubman type bars as above. Seen the chassis heights on most of the all too common Urban Assualt MILF Soccer troop transporters? One of those hits you broadside on, your'e toast. Hence why car makers today have what is called a high "waistline" or high doors, and less glass height, for better placement of side intrusions, to protect ( if any) from all the higher SUV's out there. Then again, why worry about it, if it aint a car wreck, it'll be some other thing that gets you, like cancer, or, or,or,or. Just keep doing what you like to do, as long as you can.

Grab a r200 out f a dr30 skyline they'll be 4.375 and lsd, grab a set of halfshafts from a 260z 2+2 with the two ( slightly different lemgths) push in stub flanges. Mark one shaft/flange as LEFT etc. Bolt the lot in. If you have r180 now, grab the moustache bar off the 260. Lowest cost and easiest option. -
The entry process via QR's website is a touch confusing, i am hearing, especially for those who are not signed up with QR . The other new one, is their additional $30 fee for entering on the day of the event. It gets to be a bit pricey for the intersted first timers, bit of a turn off?

First, Lets find out,,, on what car? On a ZX body it is surprising what can fit, a bit f rear lipping and the old baseball bat, with a bit of back and forth action, and fitment of that "sucked in" tyre look, the neg32's may make it! I have a few sets f new in box Watanabe knockoff's in 15x9 at neg 13, on a Z body, yes work needed, on a ZX body, they just sneak in ncely!
