Is there the requirement for the OP to join? He just wants a few nice shiny Z's to be wedding cars! Good chance for an enterprising type club to show the cars off, who knows, maybe someone may fall in love!
-
Yes, that was James Flett's 260 at the Nats, a very neat well prepared car. It lives on his dyno, almost! In Group S, on a carby fed car, the intake manifold is "Free" In a later injected car, ie 280Z and Porsche 2.7/3.0, intake manifold must remain, removal of metal internal is free. As far as the DeTomato, it has an incorrect intake manifold and incorrect engine cover. The "race stewards" were not Historic Commision Elegibility people. None were appointed at this event. What you may have seen were blokes in pale blue vests, these are ARDC or CAMS Scrutineers, these guys dont check elegibility and compliance. I know M ( Rusty) French personally, he is aware of the issue, but contends that the car has geen "like this" for years, under Perry's ownership. It's just that no-one picked it up!
-
Rubbish! It has a wrong intake manifold and engine hatch cover, it has been "logbooked" by CAMS elegibility guys, Rusty bought it like that, Perry has been running it like that for years. No one in CAMS elegibility in Victoria knows what they are doing. There is a white Mustang also, that plays wwappsies with bits but it's owner has mates in high places. High enuf to get certain genuine historic category cars banned from entering certain events in certain States. Aparently some million dollar car owners take great offence at being thouroghly nailed by little crappy shitebox Datsuns.

This event was run recently, plenty of original old Group C and A touring cars, BUT, Full kudos to the gaggle of Z cars that were running in the races for replica fake "Historic" production sports cars, yes Group S. James Flett, from MIA Engines in Brookvale took out not only top honours all weekend in his 260Z, but, due to penalty imposed on Rusty French in the ex Perry Spiridis illegal DeTomato Panstera, won outright, the feature trophy race for Group S cars! Well done! James is not an Auszcar forum member, so this won'y go to his head! Also running was Wayne Pottsm, in a LHD 280Z, Chris Grey, Geoff Pearson, Russel Stanforth, in 240Z's Results over on Natsoft, track being used was the one with the new extension at turn 5 If anyone finds photos or vids, please post up. Datsuns RULE! Looks like we have a new king on the engine building heap!

Another Can of Worms 4.5J or 5J...
dat2kman replied to MyEnquiringMind's topic in General Discussions
Reckon you'd be considering yourself very lucky to pick up ANY steel rims. Stick on what you can find. It'll be a good set of hubcaps that will be fun. Lets hope this doesn't run to five pages of discussion, ie like a set of gaurd mirrors! -
Car was first CAMS logbooked in 1990, and then again in 1991' it ran at some club level sprints and various hillclimbs in Victoria. Original name in logbook is a Marcel Toonen Les Collins may have sold him a few items for this car Car has had not a lot of use. The Ebay ad has now been sighted by the wider Australian rallying community, suspect it will get a bit of interest!

As above, easiest, and most boring, will be Newall. Out to Goondi, down to Dubbo, turn left, then onto Bathurst. Plan on two days, look for a midpoint to o/night at. Forget the New England, too many hills, and too much single lane. The coast run is now very good, Kempsey and Buladelah are bypassed, apart from a bit of roadworks north of Coffs, it is quite good. The missus and I went down/back couple weeks back, ski trip. You'd go through Pennant Hills Rd, to M2/M7, get off at Eastern Ck for run up over Blue Mtns, other side is all ok. Take your Brisbane E-Tag, it works on M2/M7. Again, plan on two days.

Electric Fuel Pump - Two connected in parallel ??
dat2kman replied to RAP260's topic in Fuel Systems
The Nikki item IS your fuel pressure reg, it is factory fixed, it is original. Your fuel pump is aftermarket, the original Hitachi pump no doubt died and was replaced. If going to triple carbs, do not rely on that old press reg, instead, fit a new pump, at rear, ie where this is, and then run a feed line into engine bay, to a new adjustable pressure reg, then to a fuel feed block that will distribute evenly to all three carbs. You could use a few Y fittings and hose to do same thing, looks a bit messy. For a new fuel pump, consider a Facet solid state electric, they are compact, and while at it, set up a second one, with a loop of fuel hose, as a back up just in case pump...... -
Whack up some pics! I'd be interested but gee, from Melb to Brisb, a bit of a trip! The usual car carriers do not like non running stuff. Dave 1600 you have first shot! ( get it, go on, you know you want it!!) Yellow RX , what is the logbook number on roll cage sticker? Vxxxx? I can get info on it from cams database.
-
Richard, save yourself a few dollars, no need to be there extra early on the Thursday morning, stay in Orange on Wed night, and Sunday night, they want you on Thurs for document check and scrutineering, that'll take all day! Go down the Newall via Dubbo, then to Orange etc, dont even think about going via Sofala/Mdgee, prick of a road to tow. What ever diff ratio you run at Lakeside, will be wrong for Bathurst.
-
Dont worry about lack of or missing logbooks, that number on the sticker on the roll cage is the logbook number. A future owner can trot into CAMS office quote the number, and pay for a replacement logbook. Then its a matter of tranfpsferring ownership of lgbook, that way car can be run with the current as fitted cage, even if alloy. Easy to weld tags to current cage to tie it into upper car structure. Be interesting to find out previos owners as per logbook???

They are Chinese made, let me guess, the cylinder seals are weeping? With patience, you can quite easily dismantle, and replace the O rings with decent Viton O rings. I've rebuilt three of them. Biggest issue is lack f sealing the ram from ngress of dust and grit.

I'm making 245 hp at 7700 and 191 ft/lb at 6000 Capacity a bit over 2 litre, four cylinder, on a Heenan/Froude old type engine dyno ( same as Moorabbin?) On a hp/torque per cylinder basis, that cam compared to a few others tried, gave best results. U20 engined car. The red one.
-
Just wondering if anyone has run a big bugger! In a six cylinder! And what results. I've been running one of these in a four cylinder engine, head is FIA Datsun option jobbie. No good under 3500 though! Intake valves are largish at 50mm diam. Carbs are 50 mm. No issues on lobe or rockers, but geometry is FIA, not L series setup, must be slight differences.
-
Jebuz That was very quick! Someone is getting it at a very good price! Who/where?

Why do you think you need the much higher flowing VL Commo Turbo injectors? The atmo VL commo injectors flow a lot less, and would be better fitment in a warmed L28. The stock ECU may be able to be used. Definately fit a better quality than the stock fuel pressure reg, ie an adjustable Malpasi, that way, by fitting the slightly larger injectors, you can then run it up on a rolling road dyno, and using a decent O2 sensor up exhaust, get your air/fuels as close as pissible. The XF Falcon TB is a good idea. On the rolling road, you will get a bit of a stumble around 4200 rpm, that is just the nature of the L series engine on airflow in and out. The stock L28 injectors flow 188 cc.

Sweet baby jebus, what a load of crap. Richo, until you actually man up and put your arze into a circuit race, be it a Lakeside rolling start with the Outlaw class, or a Prodsports class event at MP, you have no qualification to say you are "racing" or "dicing"! Niether are the lapdash mob at MP. Wheel to wheel! Delusions of granduer! What occurs at a lapdash, ie pretty much the most basic form of pitting man and his machine, against a time clock, is about the limit of the majority, which in itself is a jolly good thing to do, But, Until you or the rest of the Z club "i'm a racer" crew in the lapdash scene, move to the next level above "Basic" and conduct yourself in events where all cars start at same time, and complete a set number of laps, ie a race, and you elevate from being a backmarker, to at least top 25% of the finishing grid, and then you may develop a degree of racecraft. There are plenty Historic sports class cars that will nail the mojority of the MP zed cars, they know it, and get all girly skirty and chuck hissy fits, when real racecars do the "wheel to wheel" thing, as you say. About time you stopped the armchair driving, and the GunnaWinYa stuff, and simply "Just Do It" Oh and the pithy excuses ie my panels are rare, i dont have a license etc, are a bit of a joke, go and have a real play at your favourite fast track, Lakeside, in the Outlaws class, ie the turbo charged sports and saloon lads, yours fits in there, but dont be a mobile chicane backmarker! -
Hitler reacts to Datsun engine conversions! The german speech in places is so close!

Just a little query, Camshaft figures of 80 -50 ,50 - 80, total duration of 310 deg, duration at 50 thou is 246 deg Lift at valve 0.597 In Nismo parlance this is pretty up there for a SOHC engine, not for road use, obviously! Who has played up around these numbers PeterMc will have been around this, your thoughts?

Just saw Luvemfast's comment in the comments box on the youtube vid! Yes, i must learn to curb my cloourfull, at times language! I had no idea the Porker was doing multiple flips, as i was going backwards on the grass, it was playing ballerina right behind me. My expletive was one of realisation that i may have to start next race from rear of grid, but no, it was a "cancelled" event, and prior grid pisitions stood. Thanks to the help from Lurch, Peter Mc and my bikini girls, ( yes, i have them, dont all race drivers ! ), i got through the weekend. Lurch, whilst up here recently waved his fingers of the damage to the front right corner on the car, all good now, except we got the paint colour "slightly" wrong !! Ah well, it is just race car! Now, who of you lot are gonna buy a cracking good Z off me?? -
Hmm, Maybe take the 790 kg RX7 Sports Sedan. It has run there before, 1992 in the 1000 support races. It qualifies for regularity entry!

Corvette 350 cubic inch vs Z 2.8 litre, Z does well just staying with the cubic inch brigade, Note lighter Pantera's pull away, just, better traction. Downshift noise = worn 2nd syncchro, meh. Red Porkerinto turn 4 , Honda, more rim width and rubber, better brakes, Z does well to sit on arse of Porker after. Note also, 48 car field, Z off grid start in around 9 th outright, with quite a few Porkers just behind, along with a number of Alfa's and the red Ginetta 289 CI that bogged at the start. -
Richo, put the spondoolicks where the flapping jaw is! On Sept 21/22 weekend, come racing with other sports cars, albeit much slower Historic Production Spirts cars, there'll be a couple of Fezza 308's or a Trumpy TR4 that you can play with. Us quick blokes, in our stock proddy sports will be out front. We'll wave to you as we lap you on around lap 6 of the races. I'll ask the organisers to accept your LuxoBargeArse ZX as an "invited car" Hehehe!
