  1. A thicker ex mani plate and a std thickness inlet can be compensated for by welding bits of half washer to the full washers that go under the studs/bolts. It is a good idea to fit helicoils to the threads that you will ge using bolts for. Slightly longer studs along bottom is also a good idea. The thicker the ex mani flange plate the less it will have tendency to bend/warp, and crack due to heat/cool etc.
  2. Something about out of USA territory and postage/freight, they don't like. Send Dave at Arizone Z Car an email via their site, he can source, and ship to Aus.
  3. Have both an S30 and a S130 complete with centre hotdogs, and rear free flow muffler exhaust systems to get rid of. Both are one full piece, and will bolt to the std engine exhaust mani. Eadily cut/modded to mate to your extractors. These are aluminised steel, minimal rust, and decent mufflers. The sort of stuff most exhaust shops would call "an aftermarket sports exhaust system" $50 each Pick up only!
  4. Start emailing the header manufacturers, they have the laser cut patterns on CNC laser or water cutters. Most use a thinner plate, the 12mm will be a special for them. If they cant do 12 mm, Consider what they can supply, and weld on upper and lower gusseted support brackets, where each pipe comes out the plate.
  5. And don't i know that!! But the finished result IS VERY GOOD ! 74zzz if you're ever over West Brissy area, welcome to call by and bounce ideas etc, can show you some bits and pieces. Just need to give me couple days notice.
  6. Sounds like you are well on your way! Leave the head as is, it may need the fully adjustable twin sprocket timing chain tensioner setup. Jim has fitted these, i can supply him with them, or you get one from my stock. Stick with Jim at SMART, you already have a relationship there, he knows what you have etc. Re the triples, when you say "unmatched" what are the model numbers? I can check my Weber model books to see how "unmatched" they really are, it will be, mostly, slight differences in the internal progression passages, which may not be an issue. The bottom end! A decent harmonic balancer, if not already, a set of longer forged rods, a set of shorter height pistons, balance the lot, maybe knife edge the crank a bit, a bigger capacity cast alloy sump, a Turbo 280ZX oil pump, ( got thosenew, here too!) Be mindfull of not upping compression, a 280ZX distributor, if not already. The block will need to be sonic tested to see what you can punch the bores out to. Any more than 80 thou, they get awful thin in places! Bigger capacity involves a Diesel crank though, jim has done a few of these. He farms out work for balancing and machining to the right people!! Sounds like you may need a close ratio gearset swapped over into your box, cheap, or, a c/r set fitted to a later RB type box, a bit more expensive! When you are ready for that, i can get you going.
  7. Adam, too much talk like that, you'll give the bloodnut a big head! 74zzz have a think about what you would like to achieve, work out what you can afford to spend. What do you have atm? Maybe a set of 240z rods, a set of 60 thou flat top pistons, a bit of shaving off the head, a nice gentle port job, and fresh valves and springs. A nce 72 deg cam, run the stock carbs, Nice low budget, but it will transform the car! If you can pick up a L28 engine, do the above, keep it sensible, you will have a nice streetable tractible all round motor. Mate that to a clise ratio box, i can help you with that, and a lsd rear end, mate that with a set of liwered King springs, a set f fresh firm shocks front and rear. You've got a simple easy to look after fun machine. Cost for above? Between $6000 to $9000 for the full transformation.
  8. Dave, your health comes first, take it very easy! You are young, plenty time for stuff like cars in the future.
  9. Nnnooooo! You got a temperature or something! I'll be around with the Panadol.
  10. What degree of "built" do you want? Most engine repairer/reconditioner shops, can put together a basic engine. Something a bit more purposefull, a few on here have used Smart Automotive in Stafford. If you know the sequence of process, you can farm out the individual machine work, and diy it. For top shelf stuff, may need to look at MIA in Sydney, or Peter Mc, on here, but i hear he has around 15 to put together.
  11. the s130 model two seat LHD badged as ZX in USA, In Japan it was a Fairlady Z badbing? Ihave here badging for both, and badging for S30 bodied 280Z ( Canadian car) The S30 script badge is same as older 260Z but with an 8 The S130 badging is slimmer but longer What is the backstory on the badging on your car Simon? Car would be a JDM jobbie. Did it have a low KMH max speedo, and some interior advice stickers in Japanese language? I parted one out some time ago, there were oddities about it, it was RHD, but no Japanese stickers, it had the USA spec intake system, and a USA Turbo twin pcb ECU The badging was all Fairlady ZX it was a hardtop, 180 kmh speedo, rack and pinion steering, non power, on a unique cross member. I had a bit of a play with the intake system, the throttle body, a twin butterfly, was useless to me, but the plenum was superior to the Aus delivered intake plenums. The exhaust runner passage under is non existant, not like the USA ones! ( this was for use on a Group S injected 280Z race car, hunting for improvements)
  12. I really really really wish, people would get the description right!!! A 280ZX the later LuxoBarge, and the older S30 shell 280Z are very different on the skin, Mechanically, exactly the same. The 280Z is the rare one,!
  13. One of the attendees at Morg Park over weekend just gone, on late Sunday arvo, as everyone had packed up, and all pretty well gone, saw a large truck, set up for Outside Broadcast/ Film crew arrive, and park at rear of pit complex. Maybe happening sooner, no-one is supposed to know when/what!
  14. Reckon this is a for sale ad for a set of plates that says zedma Can include a car with them,,,,
  15. Supp regs say pairs of cars, with up to 26 on track, wow, busy! Is that 26 pairs of cars ie 52? the max track density is 55. Or, 13 pairs, ie 26 cars on track at one time, much safer! Be a bugger if there is a quick one, and he laps a few backmarkers, they get the chequer flag to signal end of session, and could be a lap, even 2 ( be jolly quick car) down. Pete Mac, you going to have a go? You'll rustle up a 1.47er car for it, hey!!
  16. In the local chip wrappers, the Warwick Chronicle, recently, the guys and crew from TopGear, the BBC tv show have made plans to use a Qld track. They contacted Norwell's Holden Driving Centre, but the Gold Coast Council said NO to the lifting of the noise restriction in place. Warwick District Spirting Car Club have laid out the welcome mat! No details yet, about where, or why, but they nned a place to make nouse, it seems. No dates mentioned, more likely 2014 sometime? No idea if any Zeds are involved, but most of us up here in Qld will no doubt hear more, soon.
  17. A Clark Rubber shop may have something, just make sure it wont soak in or hold water. KwikGrip glue, the smelly stuff to hold it on.
  18. I believe the request is for the standard twin piston calipers. Zedman240 sometimes is a source, send him a PM.
  19. Hi ZAZ, your're new here! Sorry, you are incorrect. There are 280 Z's around, CAMS has now issued ligbooks for two of them, to compete in Historic Production Spirts Cars, Category S© CAMS website does list vehicle specification sheets for the Datsun 280Z They were a production car sold in USA? As a 2 seater. They were also raced in SCCA ( USA Prod Sports) events. They were model run-on from the 260Z, with the larger bore FI engine, and required items as needed for registration in USA states, including Canada. The lower front panels were unique, along with the heavy USA Impact front and rear bumpers, which are able to be removed, as per CAMS regulations. There are many spare parts sources for the 280Z. There have been a number of Left Hand Drive varios S30 cars imported, and under certain conditions set by the varioys Australian transport authourities, these cars can be registered for use on roads, as LHD. It is also quite easy to convert to RHD, but, the values in the marketplace, today, would render this as un-viable.
  20. Gareth, you'll be fine, You are only racing against a time clock, and only one lap over the whole weekend will count. You nominate a class/capacity, based on car, if no logbook, you could almost call a S30 "Historic", but i think their Historic Sports/Tourers category will be the logbooked ones. You'll be Road Rag! Couple years back Warwick Club up here called it the "Australian" S/S Champs, now they call it the Qld S/S champs, Seems like piarc has jumped on that. Gunna be a few bigheads now, "i raced at the Australian etc etc" telling us all about it. It really the Victorian S/S Champs, but interstaters are welcome, just like the other State based S/S champs being held. All good fun, would like to attend, but, due to other issues, can not make it.

    L Series Flywheel

Can also use a L20B four cylinder flywheel, same centre bolt pattern ( L18 four cylinders are not) The L20B flys use a 200 mm diam clutch/cover, Nissan sells these, at around 350kg clamp, but the Option part clutch unit clamps at 750 kg. Why 200mm? Less rotating mass inertia, and keeps big chunks of clutch cover a bit closer to the centreline. I get my 200mm covers, i use on the race cars, including the brilliant 280Z re-levered to give 1300 kgs of clamp.. Doom, i do have a few, but in Brisbane, so pistage will be a pain! Haunt a few wreckers, there could be a few there with boxes ripped out. A bolt into the block, a mate holding a big screwdriver, a breaker bar, and a bit of tube on end, and the fly bolts will ease right off,,,,,,,, hopefully!
  22. Some of the cam shops are setup to drill out the centre and set them up for internal oiling, the back gets threaded and a bung screwed in.
  23. Yes, he really is quite the k-nob! Trollster plus! Fwiw, it has a new close ratio box fitted, rb internals, the old close ratio box can be sold with the car Lurch's recent vid from PI shows its gearchanging and rpm drops. The Group S Association has on their website the track lap records, and as does Natsoft, at the numerous tracks around the country, where it has actually raced, as opposed to just hot air and gunnagunna talk. A genuine interested buyer will get a lot of documentation in relation to the car, and the event records and setup books. Gee whiz, that reminds me, Lurch has got a lot of my incar stuff, yet to be put on the UberTube. The ones where i have to start from rear of race grid, as i didn't qualify, are quite good. But of course, the Trollking will tell us all how he would fo it, and so much better, too! Car is for sale, front right guard repaired, new chassis rail sections proffesionally welded in, rust removed. Zzzed, put a downpayment on it, nil interest charge, pay it off LayBy style. No not Lebo style!!
  24. Should be plenty around. If not, i collect them, have a few sets avail, but in Brisbane.
  25. The RB convo's are like ar-soles, every one has one! Whadda bout something bit different? SR20 Det! Car will be better balanced.
