  1. Sounds like a good one, now all i need is some deep pocketed sponsors..... Might have to start working on that. A 240Z should fit very nicely.
  2. Thought I would jump in on this one as I have literally just finished doing this same conversion last weekend. I took it one step further and replaced all of the wiper connecting arms under the valance with the Honda units using the knuckle and ball joints replacing the small brass swivels (now worn and loose)and also revised the wiper pivots that come through the valence by drilling out the old worn bushes and replaced them with the Honda nylon units and also used the Honda spigots. The whole thing cost me $50 for the wiper motor, relay and wiper mechanisms/arms and spigots from the local pick a part. I have an optimal speed, two setting wiper mechanism, with auto park and no wear or looseness in the spigots. I was intending to do up a doc on the mods and fiddling around I did, over and above the docs I sued from online. One particular one was very helpful with wiring diagram, fitting of the relay, connections etc to give me proper parking process. I plugged straight into the standard wiring loom so it could be reversed if need be. The extra I did would not be for everyone if you are trying to retain complete originality but for me (more club sport etc) the lack of rattle/looseness in the mechanisms, use of more robust nylon bearing surfaces and the like were all plus's for me. Soon as I get a few hours to do up the build details, I will throw it up. Cheers ian
  3. Went out there Sunday and went round in a few hours. Zed Club and Datsun Car Club were there on the northern side of the track and Classic Rally Club were south of the pit strait and in the midst of all the rest of the clubs/car groups. Went around in a few hours and found it OK for the range of cars etc but very little interest from anyone to talk about their cars or the clubs. Most of the people there seemed to be wanting to stay away from anyone who wandered up to talk. As I haven't rejoined/affiliated with any club since returning from working overseas, I was interested to have a chat to see what was being done in the way of calendar activity etc but seems that wasn't to be. Perhaps will focus on the website rather than talk to anyone. Anyway, worth the day out and a wander. Ian
  4. As was suggested, a long time between meets. I am from the Illawarra so a southern highlands region sounds good and hopefully some from Canberra can make it up as well. Bundanoon could be another option as well, has a few good spots for eat/drink and probably lends itself to some space to park/spread out too. Happy to assist if needed Cheers Ian
  5. Hi and Welcome I went down the path with my first one (240Z) full rebuild and then went to a road ready and the rebuilt while staying registered so enjoy the experience, the end result will be worth it and good luck as you go along. I am in the Illawarra with a 240Z so happy to have a chat at some stage. Cheers Ian
  6. I needed ramps/hoist and watched evilbay for the car yard style ramps and bought a matching pair from a mechanics yard that was closing down. I can move/adjust to suit any vehicle and apart from the fact that you are still on the wheels when you are on the ramp, the scope to work around/under/over is pretty good. I have a flat cross member I use across the ramps if I need to raise the zed on axle stands while on the ramp and remove/work on wheels/brakes etc. The attached pic is a set closed out recently on ebay at $641. I was lucky, mine were less than $300. They don't come up that often but when they do, worth a look as an alternative. Cheers Ian
  7. Thanks for the info and options. Got one from Stu Wilkinson no problem Cheers Ian

  11. Hi Stephen A couple of questions, is your friend aiming at US or other, eg British? Also, what timeline and where would it happen? My son has a 1950 Vauxhall Victor F series (his first car at 18) and it is a pretty "classic" line. Might be possible depending on timing etc as he has a couple of panels off being painted at present. PM if you like Cheers Ian PS am in Illawarra NSW
  12. This link http://www.loctite.com.au/aue/content_data/87866_Teroson_Brochure.pdf is to the product doc of the sort of product in panel bonding. Was shown use of this and the TAFE bodywork course last year and have used the same type of product from my local vehicle crash repair supplier. (Just to be clear, I have no association with them at all). Found it very strong and quick to work with, just need to be quick to place and fix the panel once the glue has been applied. The Henkel details are as follows: HENKEL AUSTRALIA PTY LTD 135 – 141 Canterbury Road Kilsyth, Victoria 3137 www.teroson.com.au Phone: 1 300 88 555 6 Assume they would give you details of distributors etc Cheers
  13. Try using the two part glue that is used in current body assembly. I have used this for several body joints and filling in a sunroof panel. It isn't cheap but sets like rock but maintains torsional strength with body twist etc. I will find the product name and post it. I bought mine from a body repair supply house in small cartridges. You have to buy/rent/borrow the syringe system to use it with, it mixes and applies in one process. I used cleco's to secure the panels while the glue set. Will update cheers Ian
  14. Hi Chris Thanks for the comment and no, missed that with Lurch's post. So, still open to any traffic out of Melbourne to Sydney or Canberra. i am in the gong so can do a day trip to the ACT easy. Thanks for any options. Cheers

  17. Hi I am from the Illawarra and have driven some of the dirt aorund Alice/the rock a few years back. The idea of an all points meeting in the centre would be great. I also have some busienss relationships with both motorsport and media that may be interesting for assistance/promotion. the fundraising backbone would be a great base to work from too. My zed would be definitely going! Look forward to hearing more

  21. Had a similar issue when rebuilding my 240. Ended up pulling all down, cleaning and redoing connectors etc. used new circlips and thrust washers as they had worn over time and allowed the connectors to come adrift. Also found that where the connector link had come off, it had started to rub on the firewall on the drivers side and allowed some rust to start. Fixed and renewed all at the same time. Put new wiper shaft sealing rubbers on when re assembling as well as antisieze etc. Works like a bought one now.
  22. Hi I have one of the standard fold up style extendable rig for engine hoisting etc. I am in the illawarra and its available at present. A box trailer or ute would be needed to transport. drop me an email ianATticketserv.com if you want to discuss Cheers
  23. Am doing the course at Kogarah along with my with my son. I have the zed and he has a 1960 Vauxhall Victor (club spec for a 19 yo p plater ). I made rust replacement skirts for both front guards, shaped, rolled, glued and spot welded, and fit to perfection. My son repairied a ding in a mudgard (a tree branch falling on the guard) and a major rust section. He was shown prep, mig welding, finishing with lead wiping etc and the car is like new and ready for prep for painting. The guys delivering the guidance on the course are "old school" and the other ones attending the course (some are back on 2nd and 3rd course) are covering everyting from old Healeys, Fords and hot rods. Having access to the equipment, materials and know how is great, very accessible and for a liitle over $300 for 9 weeks, money well spent.
  24. Hi I am in the Illawarra and can do south coast and southern city suburbs if of any assistance Cheers Ian
