  2. Hi all. am going to be in ACT early Friday 4th Dec returning to the Illawarra later that morning. If anyone has anything wanting pick up in ACT and brought back to the Gong for pick up or maybe even reasonable drop off, let me know. Am in an Audi Q3 and will have some of the back area and can fold seats down. Cheers
  3. I had only one on an earlier zed and ended up making one for the second door with some gal steel for the plate and roller from Bunnings. made a paper template wrapping around the plate, marked up cutouts etc and then folded, stepped as needed with a small benchtop folder. It has worked well and survived multiple offroad shakes and rattles. I will check if I still have the template I made and maybe some pix. It was quite a while ago (as in 5+ years) so maybe a challenge to find now. will update And standard config is one per side i believe
  4. re next time, maybe consdier wisemans ferry pub? out to wisemans, over the ferry and left to the pub. then you can go further up and cross over with the other ferry ....(tho maybe some in champagne pink bmw's have already "crossed over".... Alternative is around to the western ferry, back over and stop at the pub on the Windsor side - good lunch options either side. And some good roads all ways
  5. Thanks Peter for all of the pix, great collection from an excellent day.
  6. Likewise thanks for organising and also great to catch up/meet. A great run and enjoyable drive for sure. Nice to blow the cobwebs out on the Zed. The line up at the mt vic pub was very impressive. Look forward to seeing some more pix. Great day guys
  7. Ok, so the zed is (sort of) clean, cobwebs gone and weather looks promising for Saturday...See you by 10 near the RAAF base
  8. Will be trying to get the zed out and blow some cobwebs out...
  9. thanks for the input. was looking at the custom option but not wanting to remove the spare wheel well as the "originality" of the zed is still important. For the events I do, i have two spares on the roof bars and gear in the back. (these events are generally a week at a time). PM sent re the stainless unit, cheers
  10. Hi all, am after an "ok" condition 240z tank to use to build an extended capacity tank for the trek zed. Am not sure on suitability of the 260 unit, but if that was close am open to either. Will be looking to extend it on the passengers side to get another 15/20 litres into it. Hope someone might have a unit availble Appreciate any info/options Thanks in advance Ian
  11. Thanks Peter Will arrange a time that fits for you to grab a look Cheers

    Aircon 240Z

All, Am looking to get aircon into the zed before the next fund raising rally (a week and a few thousand km's in north west NSW in August next year.) so my nav (also wife) enjoys the week close quarters "adventure" a bit more than our last "hot and sweaty" adventure - and that was the on road component! This time around we are doing the trek4kidz rally raising funds for Starlight Childrens Foundation. I have been looking at various options from 260z/280zx options through hot rod under dash/built in kits to adapting something from one of the smaller production options. i have a couple of spare dash's that I could "engineer" to suit with under dash room the key. So a question to all, is if anyone has parts, a complete set, whatever of aircon from a zed that is for sale, please let me know. If any other (plausible) solution possibilities, happy to hear them. I have a few months to get sorted prior to having to work on installing so time to work on options. Thanks in advance and look out north west NSW next year!! Cheers Ian
  15. Was just catching up on posts and saw this article, thanks Peter. I did the same repair to my zed and it was when I met Peter at Kogarah TAFE at the body work course. I was originally looking to shape a flat sheet to the appropriate curve using a similar same idea to the ali bands to get the profile but used light card to cut profiles on specific distance marks across the roof. While i had started to review options, one of the tafe instructors suggested using an existing roof panel much like the previously mentioned laser roof. Downstirs from the tafe workshop is a store area of panels culled from various vehicles and we found (i think from memory) an early commodore panel that was a very close fit. back upstairs with the panel, airtool to cut out the needed piece (oversize to allow for a lip all round to be pressed in) and it was ready to go. At home, i went around the roof opening and checked all dimensions against the new insert panel and set it up for insertion. I used some mild steel braces bent to the right shape to support the roof and new panel while it was being placed/secured and stop any sag/dipping. I had discussed options between mig/oxy and auto glue with the tafe guys and they strongly advised to sue the glue option. I sourced the two part glue and applicator from the local panel beaters supply shop and set all up for attachment. I mounted the panel and drilled every 50 to 75 mm in both the insert panel and the roof (the inert panel had an under lip that had been pressed in with an air joggle tool as outlined above by Peter. I set everything up with the braces underneath, a couple of wooden braces from the floor to the steel braces to do a bit of "belts and braces" double up and then applied the two part glue and secured the panel. I used cleco's to hold everything in place while the glue cured and then after the appropriate curing time, removed the cleco's and did a bit of filing/sealing and finished off. The car has been running around for nearly 5 years like that including multiple dirt/rally events and no sign of any movement/cracks etc anywhere. The glue option was suggested as it is the standard "tool" used in modern panels now and avoids issues of heat distortion etc. I did take some pix at the time and will see if I can find them in the archives I still have the glue and applicator tools and can post the details if anyone wants/needs them cheers Ian
  16. I added this to mine a couple of years back after having the zed on the dyno. The new ignition along with a bit more port and exhaust work jumped the output and smooth dyno curve of the engine considerably. As noted, easy to install and manage. Cheers Ian
  17. Hi Peter I am in the Illawarra - have a 71 with the toolbox lids. If that works to/from Canberra at all, let me know Cheers
  18. ha ha has to be China by the look of it, I saw so many similar scenes when iw as living between there and Hong Kong.
  19. Thanks all for an great day - very enjoyable drive, lunch, catch up and sharing some views of great cars. A pleasure to meet/catch up. Look forward to the next opportunity Thanks George for the efforts to get the meets started on a regular basis - much appreciated by all I am sure Cheers Ian and Sue
  20. Thanks. Am trying to sort it and see about joining up. Cheers
  21. thanks George. Normally no issue and (am logged in) and use google maps for my business regularly. Am trying to sort Sunday to get along too. I actually live at Woonona and the route proposed passes right by, so I might try and pick up on the way through rather than go up to Loftus to come back down again. thanks for the map image too
  22. trying to clear the decks to bring the zed for a run. Checked the map link and it doesn't seem to be operational. Anyone else seeing that?
  23. same here, had rebuilt three core and replaced with ally ebay item. small issue with fitting holes but no problem. mounted with small rubber spacers to take slightly off mounting and insulate movement a bit. Has improved cooling dramatically and now been in a year and half and have traveled in upwards of 35'C with no issues.
  24. Sounds like a great idea as well as the Canberra mid way meet.
  25. Likewise, thanks Peter for hosting the morning and great to see the collection of zeds and clubmans and that sweet sounding cobra. Great to meet up with all of the new faces and and a few "old" ones. A drive next time would be great as well. Cheers all Ian
