I guess another way to sell a valuable sports or prestige car is perhaps use a consignment agent such as classic throttle shop? Let them sort out the time wasters and you also don't have dodgy characters knowing where you live.

If you like to stick to original (I do) here's a suggestion, it's what I have in my Zed. If you haven't already got one, get a factory am/fm tuner. Now, my Zed is a late 260z so I am not sure if 240z's got the am/fm tuners. Good job phillay, looks awesome! Do you have full size pics of your whole car somewhere? Looks like a beast! I have the same wheels as you, they are bare or "raw" alloy which are not painted. Some wheel cleaners can stain that kind of finish, it's what I believe happened to mine, and prob yours too. I've been told just wash them with whatever you wash your car with-mild soap, no "wheel cleaners". So I had mine repainted as well, pics courtesy George: cheers, Mike

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the appeal is that AFAIK, ADR's prevent us from fitting triple carbs or any carbs for that matter to a late model engine such as a RB, that you can't go backwards in terms of pollution gear. So a way around it may be to fit the RB crossflow head to a L and run the triples on that like a 432. I assume if you can find an original carby-run RB30 from a Patrol 4wd, you might be able to do it that way?

Hi Nick, the point I was trying to make is that different people have different priorities when it comes to determining whats important to them in regards to the value of a Zed. So whats important to you? You shouldn't try and rationalize what an enthusiast does, be it a car guy or for example a watch enthusiast. Would you spend $25,000 on a watch? Leave the rationalizing to the wives & girlfriends! With any old car that has a following, low numbers have always desirable. Why? My guess is because it's like a race, like coming first. Maybe a sense of historic significance, or exclusivity. When do they become meaningless? My guess is when the lost the series 1 hatch vents. Would George, Tom/Dick/Harry be undertaking a restoration of this magnitude on 7000? Yes, when #1 to #6999 all have either rusted away,crashed, converted to RB,V8,13B's or Ferrari GTO's ;D. cheers, Mike.

Nick, your question can only be answered for yourself by yourself. Whats more important to you? The "as new" restoration or "original patinated example"? #19, #125 or #499-it's your call. You shoudn't need this forum to tell you. I've copped flak for saying this before, but I'll say it again, L-series powered S30's were a mass-produced vehicle and are a long time away from being "rare". We're not talking about Ferrari GTO's or even 432's here. Whether or not George's restoration is perceived as expensive depends on the individual and their disposable income. Is it worth it? Ask George. Better still, just ask yourself and there is your answer. I have seen the phrase "it's only money" bandied around this forum many times . Guys spending money and effort fixing old cars has been known as a money pit for generations and reason most of us do it is for the right reasons which is for the love of it. You might make a profit if/when you sell it but don't count on it. You want an investment, try real estate. Just because you've spent $60k restoring it, doesn't necessarily mean someone will pay you even that much to buy it from you. Personally, seeing people bring rusty old cars(especially S30's) back from the brink brings me joy. Myself, I have a late '76 260z so it's far from being an "early girl" and I LOVE it. Do I care about it's value increasing? No. So Nick, figure it out for yourself. cheers, Mike.

I agree, you should find yourself a 240z bonnet, the vented doesn't look right unless on a late 260z. AFAIK, the drivers side vent has never had a rain tray. I don't have one on mine and I have never seen a vented bonnet with one on the drivers side.

Gav, how did you go with the tyres? I have used 002's before and like them. Were you able to get them in 205/60/15? AFAIK with all the info I am getting it says they are only available in 205/55/15?

I've got a set of 15x7's on the slow boat from Japan on its way and have also looking for 205/60/15's and have only really seen the KU31's in that size that are performance based. Bridgey Re002's don't seem to be available in 60series, only 55 and at twice the price of the KU's. Not really put off by the price (hey, its only money right!? ) but I feel that the small rolling diameter (606.5mm diameter) would look a bit small in the arches. I've also seen 225/50/15 R888's for $250ea, again too small diam for me. Any other suggestions for a performance based 205/60/15 besides the KU31's?

For a road S30 I really don't see the point, especially the rear disc conversion. Gav, you've owned a s30 for longer than I, was there ever a case you ran out of brakes? Even some track-day Zed owners have mentioned the stock brakes are fine. Also the s12-8 may not clear some low offset wheels. Just my 2c.

Yes, it's Kat's 432-it mentions it in the credits at the end. If he does take the car on "tours" overseas it would be nice if he could bring it down under. Perhaps organisers of Z nationals could persuade him to be a guest? The car looks like it does get driven, it's a good thing. It means he is enjoying the car and sharing the pleasure with other Z enthusiasts as well. Cars were meant to be driven, paintings to be admired behind ropes in a gallery and real estate for investment!
