Guilty as charged on a couple of occasions. In NSW I think the deal is you must have a public vehicle authority (like a hire car driver) and the vehicle must be business registered as a hire car. Also even a "case of crownies" is considered payment/ reward as well which is not allowed. I would think if you were a friend which is invited to the wedding and there is no perceived "reward or payment" then there shouldn't be a problem. cheers, Mike

Hi Chris, you must have inspected the car after me because when I inspected it, IIRC I offered him around $4k and he politely declined and said that he will let the auction take its course. He must have started to get nervous close to auction ending. She did have some rust in some odd spots but the fact that the car had been last resprayed 20 years ago at the time made me think that it was an honest car, you saw all the rust and no other surprises that had been hastily hidden by a recent respray. For some reason, not sure why that car seemed to have put a spell on me, I wanted her and I think I did bid upto $5k. Must be something like the pic below: cheers, Mike. P.S sorry George, hijack!

Please, someone organise something already! I used to organise the Syd meets back in the day and I know it's tough. Doesn't matter if your Zed isn't running, we only need a couple to show up give the "works in progress" guys some encouragement to get their Zeds running. My experience doesn't relate to a "project" as such but in a way I guess all our Zeds are in a way projects because we continue to improve them all the time. When I put a deposit down around 7 years ago on HS30-00233 my wife and I had a big blue on the way home. The next day I called the owner and told him to keep my deposit and I couldn't go through with the sale. He was really good about it, being married himself and refunded my money. The rest is history. For the last few years, having some family health issues and last Nov I got some not so good news regarding my health (I'll live) and I started a fire sale of some of my other hobby pieces and unwanted Datsun and Zed parts. I actually wrote the ad to put my Zed up for sale but my missus actually talked me out of it. She also gave me the green light to spend some money on it. So I guess better late than never, I might start a Zed journal for RS30-015093. cheer, Mike.

you may want to investigate the possibility of machining your wheels to increase offset. I had my rear wheels 16 x 8.5, -6 machined 7mm to +1 offset, steel inserts and avoided the need to cut or lip rear guards. I had them done by Neales wheels. cheers, Mike.

Been cleaning out the garage and throwing stuff out. Going through the dvd collection and decided one last watch of this one before throwing out: Legend of Speed (1999) is like a Hong Kong version of Fast & the Furious. No S30's, just 2-stroke NSR's, EVO vs WRX, and one Porker. Funniest part for me was when the hero gifts his mechanic a new laptop- "Its a Pentium II 400!!" whoopee!, well it's '99 I guess. If you can't find anyone closer, try Neales wheels in Sydney http://nealewheels.com.au/ They manufacture/modify/repair wheels in-house. I had my watanabes modded there and found them really helpful. They have a lot of un-drilled 2 and 3 pieces wheels there so I'm confident they can knock up something for you in regards to pcd and offset. cheers, Mike.

Just been browsing the silvermine website where there is some more info. The stage 3 calipers look to be S12+8, see pic: The stage 4 is S12w: So it seems they are rebuilt Hilux calipers. Am I wrong in assuming you needed to upgrade the master cylinder for even a S12+8? Cheers, Mike.

Thats quite insightful George, it never occured to me, but now you have made perfect sense. How about Col & Jannet go through a bitter divorce and out of spite, Col sells the Zed for $1 and gives Jannet 50c? We could say at least two of our members here have put in excess of six figures into restoring a S30, but they would not expect to recoup the cost in the event they need to sell it. This would be the case in any mass produced/ non limited-edition vehicle, in effect what a S30 is. And this is exactly the point, I totally agree. As you know there was only around 400 S20 powered Zeds made. So if you are going to compare apples with apples, the S20 powered Zeds and Skylines are the ones you need to compare with R/T Chargers, GT Falcons,GTS Monaros,XU1/SS/SLR Toranas. And another similarity, the S20 powered cars were, AFAIK only sold in Japan? Just like the Aussie muscle cars only in Australia. Although I think I read somewhere that they sold XY GT's in South Africa. Add to that, the fact that Ford is packing up manufacturing here so no more Falcons, Holden will soon be "Ping pong, dim sims, Panda bears and Holden cars" which will probably spike the price in the above mentioned Ford/Holden muscle cars. I'd imagine if you count RHD S30 production numbers worldwide they are going to be much higher than say the numbers of Torana's built. So if you are waiting for your S30 to deliver you a golden egg, it's going to be a while. Just drive the bloody thing! Not necessarily facts, just IMHO. cheers, Mike.
