  1. I say go for it Pete!, saves you the effort of finishing your one off. Go to the auction early and tell everyone it's the wrong day or bomb scare or something They are nice but I rate the perinnial favourite Lambo Miura and 250 SWB highly as well. But of course they don't hold a candle next to the S30!
  2. Congrats and let the fun begin! Looking forward to seeing the car in the flesh. Also, with you having been through the process of importing a car, you would be able to advise other members should they wish to do the same. I wouldn't mind in the future look at a DR30, hako or kenmeri. cheers, Mike.
  3. Here's an old one of Broadway near Sydney's Central Station:
  4. Great pic!, thanks Pete. Always have enjoyed world championship motor racing-whether two or four wheel much more when an Aussie is doing well and many have said, hard not to like the one with the biggest grin on the paddock-and that was before he won a GP. Don't know what the answer is re the speed of the Mercs or what everyone else can do about it. Murmurs about RB shafting Renault power for a in-house motor with Infiniti money, but I always thought Renault owns Nissan and therefore Infiniti as well?
  5. Hubcaps?
  6. Is that the one Ben from Otomoto built?
  7. No worries Pete, here you go: http://www.kingswoodcountry.com.au/buy/car-rego-registration-label-decal-sticker-1953-198/HQR20 I based my one on the first rego label my car would have received. First rego'ed in Dec 1977. Thanks again for the pics, Gav as well. cheers, Mike
  8. Gav, that's something to look forward to for the next meet-up !
  9. Great day, good to meet/catch up with everyone and we all had the pleasure of Lachy joining us today as well. cheers, Mike.
  10. The zed is fuelled up and ready. I just have to get myself up that early in the morning!
  11. For sure , the Hako and Kenmeri but for me, I don't think they're realistically attainable. BTW, this pic is for Gav. It turned up in my driveway the other night. He was buying some tyres I had on ebay. Nice bloke:
  12. During the hunt for my zed, I did get frustrated at times when I couldn't find one that suited me/my budget/the missus didn't approve or got outbid whatever, I nearly said "stuff it" and was just going to buy a R32 GTR. Of course, the rest is history and I love my zed. Heaven forbid, if me and my zed had to part-it'd have to be very serious circumstances, I would like to put together a triple carbed L28 (has it/can it be done?) powered Datto 1600 or 180B.
  13. Congrats and welcome! Love the colour and hope to meet you and see the car soon. cheers, Mike
  14. Yep, have to agree with you there. If I could get a similar wheel already landed in Australia with customer service, I would be prepared to pay a little more.
  15. To be fair, they're not $360 wheels, they're $360+400=$760 worth of wheels. The $250 a wheel Rota's didn't travel here for free. That's a very good point in regards to the design of the rims/spokes making it more prone to failing. I love the look of these wheels (on a Holden, not a zed!): but it looks like it wouldn't take a hit well. In regards to your "knock-off"watanbes, I could be wrong but I am pretty sure watanabes are made in Japan (Ben, confirm?), not China so I question your claim that they are made in the same factory. Or are you just saying that they are made in the same factory as the full BS fake watanabes with the three bird symbol? Another question is why not just buy Rota RKR's if you wanted the watanabe type R look? Rota has a legitimate presence in Australia and an avenue should anything go wrong. I suppose if the size you need isn't available in Rota's. Also, if you are racing with these wheels without any issues, that's good enough for me !
  16. The ones you are looking at are black so I guess that may make it easier to spot any potential problems. Look at the local tyre/wheel shops are full of this stuff so they can't be too bad? I was looking at tyres the other day and the shop was full of replica euro wheels like BMW, Audi, Merc etc. I run 16" watanabes and was considering a cheap set of 15's for shivers and giggles and saw set of these 15x7" work equip replicas from QLD for $650: go for it.
  17. Have you guys checked this local business yet? Australian Classic Wire Wheels. They appear to be a distributor of Dunlop wire wheels: http://www.acww.com.au/
  18. Well DreamZproject I guess you can be the guinea pig for this one. I can remember when Rota's first came out heaps of people were posting pictures of shattered Rota's and saying they were crap. You still see alot of these sorts of posts for the "replica" HSV, FPV wheel forums, but what they neglected to show or state is how hard they hit the kerb/medium strip to cause the damage.
  19. George, you have been there done that with the drag strip V8 zed, and now that you have found an early girl, I understand that your ethos for this car is to keep it close to stock. Now, you drove my zed a little while back with the triples, wasn't it fun? Keeping it L series and triples would still be pure S30. I voted store it and use another engine. cheers, Mike
  20. I'm sure a few people would have looked at the car in person and left details, I guess they can negotiate privately now. Maybe the 20 year old with the 1600, who had been looking for a Datsun like this for an incredible amount of time got his dream car? Or the owner read the thread we got going on Celica's and took the girl's car and $5K?
  21. Hi Adam, I think the contacts might just be caked up with gunk and just needs cleaning. Check this thread out: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12578.msg130135.html#msg130135 cheers, Mike.
  22. It might have been the owner's best mate put a single bid of $25k just in case.
