  1. Hi Jamo, Sounds like a good setup. That would be great if you could post some photos up. Thanks, Shane
  2. As the others have pointed out, there's plenty of options for brakes. Be wary if you buy the Castlemaine Rod Shop gearbox mount. It takes a lot of modification to get it to fit to the 240z/260Z floorpans. I think it may have been designed around the American 280Z as it seems to have a recess for a catalytic converter. I know other people have had the same problem. I'm not sure about their engine mounts as we fabricated custom ones to get the engine where we wanted it. I think other people have used their engine mounts with no issues.
  3. Thanks very much Wayne. So that's the Patrol factory brackets?
  4. The wheels look great. They look like the perfect offset and suit the Z very nicely.
  5. With my RB conversion I wanted to run the factory braces the RB30's have from the bottom of the block to the lower part of the gearbox bellhousing. The problem is, it doesn't look like we can make these work with a rear bowl sump. What have other people done for their RB conversions? What do the RB30 Patrols use there? Any help would be much appreciated
  6. If I can't win on computer games I turn around and have head ons with all the other cars until they're written off and then go the right way and pass them all again. Might be worth a try..........
  7. Reminds me of the scene out of knocked up where the obstetrician says "you do look like your sister"
  8. You're so forward. I don't normally send people photos like this but......I guess as long as you promise not to show them to anyone else One shows inside the box and the other shows the underside of the lid so you can see how it seals.
  9. Yes, the battery has to be in a sealed compartment if it's in the cabin. Mine is in a custom made aluminium box with the box bolted to the floor in the rear and battery strapped into the box. The lid also bolts down with a thin layer of foam to give it a good seal. As PZG302 said, be very carefull what you have in your cabin. My dad's boss had his fuel lines running through the cabin in his sports sedan. The tailshaft broke and went through the fuel and brake lines resulting in a cabin full of fuel and a 200km/h fireball that he had to spin into a tyrewall to stop. He was lucky to make it out alive.
  10. The 260Z gearbox should be good for up to around 200rwkw as long as you're not too rough with it. I've got some good freight deals lately with TNT but you have to have an account with them to use them.
  11. A bit off topic sorry but I just wanted to give you a heads up. What does your engine rev to and what size wheels are you running? When I went there I had a 3.7 in the car which I thought would be fine and it was hitting the limiter with about 1/3 of the straight still to go! My limiter was 6,500rpm though so I assume yours would rev a fair bit harder. I was running 255/40 17's. I switched to a 3.54 for the 2nd day and it was still just tapping the limiter at the end of the straight. The car was only making about 400hp then too so a fair way off what yours is making. It's a big straight and you're pulling close to 200kph as you come onto it! You guys will have a ball. Best track I've driven on by a long way and I'm very envious because I don't think I will make it to the nationals.
  12. Yep, if you said that Z was worth about $20K now then it's about 6% return pre year. Not that great compared to other investments but still nice to have cars that go up instead of backwards
  13. My rear one is a bit of angle bolted to the bumper mounting point behind the bumper with a bit of rod heated and bent 90 degrees around some pipe with both ends welded to the part of the angle that sticks out near the bumper. The front one is a similar design but a little more complicated to get it out past the front bar.
  14. Happy 40th Pete. Hope you treated yourself to some nice presents to get the Z back up and running
  15. You will need to modify the moustache bar as the R180 rear cover isn't as deep as on a R200. In 240Z's and 260Z's you just run a 240Z moustache bar for an R180 or a 260Z moustache bar for an R200. Not sure if a 240Z moustache bar fits a 280ZX??? The front mount should be fine. I've run 266rwkw through a welded R180 on 255 semi-slicks with no issues. An LSD won't be quite as strong as a welded diff but I don't think you'll have any issues with it.
  16. If you do build it to IP specs, there's an n/a under 2 litre division that's pretty strong in some states so that might be worth considering. An Autech SR20 would be a good thing...... If you build an l-series, have a chat to Bluerat on here. He's got a very quick L20 powered 1600 I was lucky enough to get a drive of early this year. Brilliant little car
  17. Yep, Improved Production. I reckon it's the best amatuer level circuit racing class in Australia. There's a huge variety of cars that can all be competitive if built well. You could run any inline 4 nissan/datsun engine but must run an inlet restrictor if you run a turbo. Lots you can and can't do, takes lots of reading of the rule book but you will have a car you can do heaps of great events with, including a Bathurst meeting every year
  18. +1 for putting the build thread up on here. They're awesome little cars. I race against one with an FJ20 turbo in it and that gets along very nicely. I'm with PZG302 on the IP car build, would be a great class to run in.
  19. I think it's pretty common with lift pumps. I run a Holley blue which is also very noisy so don't change it for one of them

    Scarab

I can understand why they knocked back this car for Targa with the LS1. I wonder if you would be able to run a proper Scarab replica with a small block though?
  21. Great work on the PB. You can tell from the photos in Mooa42's link that the wing is definitely working, the rear suspension is compressed quite a bit more than the front. Unless the photos are taken coming out of a corner and it's just squat Did the car understeer in the high speed corners or was your front splitter enough to balance it out?
  22. Good thinking to mount to the bumper mounting points. What sort of wing is it that you've used?
  23. What year was the 280ZXT first built? You can do a lot more if it was built in 1981 or before from memory and it would fit in as a classic car. 2 seater would definitely be the way to go to keep the weight down and you can do a lot of other things such as fibreglass panels if it is 1981 or before. Stroking is fine, turbo intercooler, etc are open. Computer is the hard part, the engine management must be of the period. There are ways around this though. I'm sure Jason knows some tricks

    Scarab

I had a good look at this. It's a tidy car and the engine conversion has been done well. Did you get any pics of the blue Z that was running in regularity? I really liked the colour. It was good watching Mick have a battle with the 350Z in one race, almost like watching a time warp
