Very sexy! Let me know if you have any issues getting it to work with the L28ET dizzy/RB30 wheel setup. I learnt a few tricks getting mine to work with the RB30 dizzy

Check over all of your half shaft bolts. I go over these before every meeting and normally find a few that have worked slightly loose. I also had trouble in the past with the two nuts that hold the diff to the moustache bar so check them. As for the oil, it is normal for them to spit some out when they get hot. I run a hose off the breather all the way up to my catch can in the engine bay to stop it making a mess.

Pitty you couldn't make it Hodgo. You've got a bit of work to do now if you're going to win the under 2L class again! You're right, some of those Targa Wrest Point roads were pretty rough! We didn't have the steam roller wheels on it then though, haven't got as much clearance now. Like you say, I could always wind the ride height up a bit and make it look like a monster truck If I do make it up to Highcleare it should have the new hair dryer on it by then. The video from the weekend is still pretty average, more refinement of my camera positioning needed I'll have a look at it and maybe put something up in the next couple of weeks.

I like my car soft so it's not too far off a hillclimb set-up. I only run 200lb rear springs and a 16mm rear bar. I reckon with some super soft tyres it would be a decent thing.

I had a run at my first hillclimb yesterday. It was the first round of the Tasmanian Hillclimb Championship and was held at Baskerville. I wasn't expecting to go too well cause there was a bunch of Evo's and GTR's entered and it's pretty hard to make up the advantage they get off the line. I didn't get a dry run all morning cause a shower would come through just as I got to the front of the line each time. I still had fun playing in the wet though After lunch I had another wet run then the track started to dry out. The next run I got a bit excited through the first corner and it was still damp which resulted in me going backwards while still at 6,000 rpm in 3rd once the smoke cleared I'd done a complete 360 and was pointing in the right direction again so that gave everybody a bit of entertainment. After that the rain stayed away and I got a few dry runs. I soon worked out that 17x8.5 and 17x9 hard compound semi-slicks aren't the way to go for hillclimbs. I couldn't get any grip at all and was suffering from massive understeer. Still managed to get a couple of decent runs in but a long way from what I know the car is capable of. In the end I was very surprised to win my class and finish 2nd outright, a long way behind a very quick GTR and just 0.01 seconds ahead of a Cosworth powered Escort. It's left me thinking I should run the rest of the rounds of the series but I've heard the next one is very bumpy so i'm not sure if I want to put the car through that. Results from the day can be found here in the event results section: http://www.cmitas.org/ There should be some photos up later in the week and I'll post the link. There were 2 other Z's running. A yellow & blue one and a very tidy original maroon one. It even had a perfect interior and a dash with no cracks!

Dat2kmans 280Z Group Sc CAMS Historic Prod Sports racecar
Scando replied to dat2kman's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Great read, I want your car collection! Pitty they don't run group S historics down here in tas, only group N :-\ -
This argument seriously pisses me off everytime I hear it. Until I started racing my Z I did drive too fast on the roads and wrote off my first car. When I started racing I lost the urge to do stupid things on public roads. If they want to reduce 'hooning' then they should put more funding into projects such as this and organise cheap, track, drag racing, drifiting days so people can do these things in a safe environment where they won't hurt anyone else. Good luck! I hope the government see the light for the sake of all you South Australian folks

Hi guys, while looking up the times from our race meeting on the weekend I found this: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?26/07/2009.SAND.Q1.I Thought you guys might be interested if you didn't already know where to find them. So who is who from AusZCar? I know who craig is and it looks like it was pretty close in the battle of the brothers. Who else is who?

The turbo I've bought is also a T3 flange so I should be able to do this. It's water cooled but it should be easy to tap some lines in somewhere. I just hope it works with my dump pipe. I've never heard of it. It's good stuff then? I've only got run of the mill BP gearoil in there at the moment.
-
Have you sold many of these to Tassie other than the two sets I bought Ben? I reckon I've had at least 30 people come up to me at the track and ask where I got the wheels from!
-
Thanks for the info Sinisha. It was your advice that convinced me to buy this turbo. Sounds like I need to hurry up and get it on the car

I'm happy with the power it's producing from a pretty cheap setup. It's nice and drivable with plenty of torque. The problem with it is it falls away big time at the top end. I've picked up a 2nd hand Garrett ball bearing turbo for a good price which should fix the top end and not loose the good mid-range the car has at the moment...........hopefully. Only things is I'm not sure if I should put it on yet or not. I'm afraid it'll come on a lot quicker and harder and turn the gearbox to scrapmetal. Upgrade 71 'Z with R31 rear disk setup
Scando replied to Gyra's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
If you do run into bias issues then one of these knob style proportioning valves in the rear brake line should fix the problem: http://www.wilwood.com/Products/006-MasterCylinders/001-PV/index.asp That's what I was running with R31 rears. -
I'm not sure what way they spin in an RB30 but I'd say that must be the case.

Nice photos Lurch, looks like it was a good day. How did the Viper go? So who won the battle of the quickest Z for the day

Over the past few weeks we've had a big battle getting the car ready for a race meeting at Baskerville yesterday. We had a lot of trouble getting the car to run properly with the new computer but finally got it sorted to go on the dyno friday. The results were good with around 220rwkw and a nice fat power curve. I didn't go all that well yesterday. I hoped to get into the 58's with the extra power which would have made me quite competitive except for Greg Garwood in his GT3RS who was doing 57's. I didn't really get a clear run in the early races and the best time I got was a 59.5, the same as last meeting. Then in race 3, pushing too hard on cold tyres I run over a big ripple strip on the exit of a corner and badly dented the dump pipe. After that the car lost a fair bit of power and about a second a lap. There was also a crash fair in front of me into the first turn in the final which I had to go off the track once again to avoid and lost a few positions. I think I ended up about 4th or 5th for the day. It was still had heaps of fun coming back through the field after my stuff ups but I just didn't get the results I was looking for. The funny thing is that even though I haven't been competitive this year I think I'm now leading the series. The guy that was ahead of me blew up in race 1. I doubt I'll stay there too long though. I also bought a go pro camera and I hoped to have some in-car footage to show you all but the position I mounted it in was no good and you can barely see outside the car. You can just see me wrenching on the steering wheel like a mad man So, I'll get the dump pipe fixed and try again. Hopefully get some good footage to show you next time

Hi Dimitri Just thought you might be interested to know we ended up grafting a complete RB30 distributor into the L28 to fix the problems we were having with the new computer. Long story but it turns out that wasn't the problem anyway! I'm very happy with the end result though. The timing stays perfect right through the rev range where we were getting a few degress of scatter with the L28 distributor. Anyway, there's a lot of work required to make the RB30 dizzy fit but it can be done. The L28ET dizzy with the RB30 wheel would be much easier and cheaper unless you're lucky enough to have a couple of very helpful mates that are fitter and turners One thing you might find helpful is that we had to turn the wheel upside down.

Getting standard 240Z tacho to work with aftermarket computer?
Scando replied to Scando's topic in Electrical systems
We ended up getting the standard tacho working by accident! We've spent the last couple of weeks chasing a bad missfire at around the 4,000rpm mark with the new computer. We went to the extent of grafting a complete RB30 distributor onto the L28 because we thought it was getting a bad trigger signal and this still didn't fix our problem. Then tuesday night we got it to go up to 6,000rpm with no missing..........tried again a few minutes later and it missed again.......then one of the guys realised it was only when the timing light was being used that it would rev happily. We considered getting the tape out and finding a spot in the engine bay for the timing light In the end we just powered the coil from the original power supply which runs through the tacho instead of the power supply from the computer. Problem fixed and my tacho works -
What size wheels are you running? This will have a big effect on what diff ratio you need.

I'm guessing you've looked at the blue one for sale in Launceston?
-
Yes, I was a very good lad Hodgo. Resisted the temptation of all the pretty lights and got an early night. Thanks to the guys that did venture out on a school night. Was great to be able to put a few faces to names and meet a good friendly bunch of blokes.

Thanks Here's a link to a pic of the 3SGTE powered celica that runs IP. http://dcpgallery.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1747 It's a very angry little car

Sounds good thanks Lurch. I'll send you a PM with my phone number. So we'll go with that time and place and whoever turns up turns up? Yeah, sorry about the short notice but I only found out I was doing the trip at the last minute. Hope you can make it Dimitri, would be good to meet.

Well it's looking like a romantic evening for 2 so far, lol. Do you think Pauly will get jealous?

I have a 1 acre block that I'm waiting to build on and an unregistered R30 Skyline. I've been thinking the same thing
