  1. If it's ok with you guys and my car isn't pulled to bits at the time I'll join you at Symmons for the day. For the freeday sunday in Hobart, if anybody wants to do further driving I could provide you all with a course of some of the best driving rounds south of Hobart from where me and Bluerat did the Targa Wrest Point 999. Could also incorporate the Tahune Airwalk which was one of the stages for the rally and has 30km of brilliant winding road to get there! I'm sure by that time you'll all be keen to have a day of not driving though Anyway, let me know.
  2. Don't have a graph of the torque curve sorry. I remember with the old setup it was making over 400NM at 3,000rpm and building more higher in the revs but I'm not sure what the max was. Didn't see a torque figure while it was on the dyno with the new setup. Yeah, definately needs a bigger wastegate. Will find out this weekend if it overboosts up hills or stays at the 21psi it made on the dyno. If it stays at 21 I'll live with it. We tried a couple of runs in 5th on the dyno and it still stayed at 21 so hopefully it'll be ok. -Basic Bosch oil filled coil. -Haltech single channel igniter -RB30 Distributor -NGK Iridium plugs (these are worth every cent in my books) -Haltech Sport 2000 controling it all.
  3. Here's the dyno graph. Ignore the torque figure, as much as I wish it were true 11468_d612ca29e5c892e45be46dcabca1029a67247fec.pdf
  4. My max power is only at 5,000rpm so I don't have the revs to play with that most Z's do. Any idea what sort of speed you cary through Honda and the bottom of Lukey Heights? Normally as long as I can carry about 80-90 through a corner it'll get onto boost and pull fine in 3rd. Think I need to get onto Youtube and watch some in-car vids
  5. Go the Rat! Can't wait to find out how it goes. At least now you'll have some time to get stuck back into the Z. What are you going to do when the Z's finished though? Can't drive two cars at once
  6. Good choice on the engine. There's a couple of guys I race against running 25/30's and both are producing huge reliable horsepower.
  7. Thanks for the info Jason. Sounds like I'll definately be taking the 3.54 just incase.
  8. 5 seconds is massive! nice work
  9. This one shows it fairly well, you can see what I was saying about the side intrusion bars. My cage is nothing special. It's just the most basic 6 point you can buy from Bond cages in Sydney. But let me if you would like some more detailed pics and I'll try to remember to take some and send them to you
  10. I was running a factory turbo "B" grind cam. The one I have now was done by powerplay (previously datrally). They didn't send a sheet with the specs, I just told them what I use it for and that I wanted it to work well from 3,000-6,500rpm. Max power is still at 5,000rpm I'll post the dyno sheet up sometime when I get a chance.
  11. Thanks heaps for the offer Kev. Turns out I can't get it in Tassie anymore anyway! I had to get the car tuned anyway so I got it done on 104 unleaded cause I don't think we'll be able to run avgas at all next year.
  12. Had the car on the dyno yesterday with the new turbo and cam. Since the rear housing is so small on the new turbo the wastegate isn't big enough now. I wanted 18psi but with the wastegate wide open it's making 21psi. It should be fine for now but I'll be looking to get a bigger wastegate to get it back down to 18. It made 266kw@wheels which is a 46kw gain and the power comes in a bit earlier than the old setup so I'm very happy. Once we get the boost back down to 18 it should still make around 250 which is what I was aiming for so it's a good result. I think I'll be content with that for now. If I decide it still needs more I'll build a RB25/30 for it if I can afford it!
  13. Nice work Tim! I'm looking to do pretty much the exact same thing to mine over summer.
  14. It seems to depend who you talk to at the transport department but the guy I spoke to when I was getting mine engineered said they would happily do it with a full cage for full rego or race/rally SI rego. Only thing they wouldn't let me do is get the 30year+ SI rego because it was too far modified but I've seen lots of other highly modified cars on it. With your side intrusion bars, start them reasonably high at the back and angle them down at the front. Gives the cage good rigidity and safety while making it easier to get in and out and it should pass the transport requirements. With your front legs get them as close to the A pillar as possible. The reason transport don't like the front legs is they obstruct your view. When the engineer did my car he took photos from the drivers seat looking out to prove that the front legs in my car don't obstruct your view.
  15. Power sounds about right for those mods on that boost. Probably not much more than what your L series had? But will have a lot more torque Definately go the new computer. Should be able to wind the boost up a bit and easily get over 200 then.
  16. Tassie is even better. White plates and almost anything can be engineered
  17. It's interesting, with the 1600's only highly modified ones seem to fetch big dollars. Where as with Z's original examples often seem to fetch more than highly modified cars.
  18. Yeah, sounds expensive for a Z but cheap compared to what it would cost to build and develop a car like this. Engine, cage, PPG Dog box! All adds up pretty quick.
  19. Looks like an absolute bargain. I quite like the colour it is. Needs the door handles re-chromed though
  20. In circuit racing for historics yes but not for tarmac rallys like it's built for.
  21. Yeah, I know. but at least I know I can get it. Better than getting over there and finding out I can't buy fuel anywhere :-\
  22. Got this sorted. Race Fuels, 18-24 Moray St Southbank can sell it.
  23. Well, I've decided to bite the bullet and take my own trailer. $1700 return for a Transit van towing the car trailer and 2 adults. Ouch! I was worried about what happens if the car breaks down or even worse if I crash it! Also, I'm going to be very tight for time to get back to the boat after racing sunday. Thanks very much to Viking who offered the lend of a trailer
  24. I'm running a 3.7 with 17's and it pulls around 230km/h at 6000 rpm. Even if you're running 15's or 16's you should still be able to cruise at 100 at under 3000rpm which is always nice for a road car. A guy I race against runs a 25/30 in an R31 coupe and also runs a 3.7 with 17's. It still pulls very well down low but it does have 592hp and 600nm! He seems to think a 3.9 would be spot on but a Z is a lot lighter than a R31 so i'd say the 3.7 should be pretty good
  25. Should have explained myself better sorry. I'm sure the body can take a heap of power. I don't think it's the power that's causing the problem in my case, more the corner loads. Shouldn't be a problem in a street car. /hijack
