Might be worth considering your self while you are in the build stage Dave?

OK Zed freaks. For all those who are doing or have done V8 conversions this might be of interest. I have had a nagging vibration in my Zed only when the car was under massive load doing over 160klms. Crusing over 200klms was nothing. But I was in search of a solution. Anyway I have had Andrew at the old Merridian Motor Sport make up some awesome brackets to be welded in between the Chassis rail and the gearbox mount. end result is per attached ready for a complete weld in. You will notice the left side the floor pan is level but the right one has sagged around 10mm due to the twisting torque of the engine. Anyway this boxing of the brackets will lock in and secure these mounts rock solid. I highly recomend this for anyone putting in a V8 with some descent power. Cheers

Hi guys, Well I think it is agreed we will have two seperate events. Can we have a show of hands for Gordon's BBQ to be either Saturday 31st Nov or 7th December. Can we set up one of those pole thingies?
-
I will try and make it as well. I think you might be right. Same date as our Xmas BBQ We might have to look at moving our BBQ to the week after being Sunday the 8th December? Or week before depending on NDSOC. I will have a chat to Gordo.

If you want to hit those speeds then you will need to wack a G-Nose on really. Firm suspension, good quality tyres and a rear spoiler that will keep the rear down but not act as a parrachute. As for breakage if you put in a powerful engine then your drive line needs to be beefed up to the point you simply know nothing will break.
-
I am not saying it's not possible to acheive these speeds. My car might even get up there if I had enough road. I am saying to many talk pie in the sky stuff and tell everyone what they plan to do and we never hear from them again. I say do the hard work, spend the big cash, get your engine in and running then re visit this thread in a year or two that's all.
-
Ha Ha Interesting thread. Let's first see the engine in the car that's going to be capable of pushing you this fast. Then start talking speeds. Did I say in the car and on the road reliable and working. Then we can restart this thread in a year or two if at all.

Good on you Bruce. We are going to see how the numbers stack up closer to the time. Gordon won't be making it this Feb for the first time ever. And Lurch is a maybe depending on finances. Johnboy is mad keen after speaking to him last weekend. I will check interest and numbers around November. If not enough I would postpone it for 1 year and go local for 4-5 days in Feb like previous. Bright/Thredbo or somewhere. I am pretty keen for Thredbo again I must admit. Either way 100% we will be going on a long drive in the Zed in Feb 2014. I am getting some great work done on my Zed in the next few months to ensure she is running perfect for the cruise. The tasks never finish. But continue to enhance and make agreat Zed even better. Thos interested in doing something in Feb 2014 feel free to voice your preference on this thread. Cheers Craig

Sorry but all Zeds have heavy steering. It's a lot to do with the angle of the column. Get used to it or do what I did after 15 years. Put power steering on. Cost $2,500- and a shit load of time. But worth it. Transformed the car. The conversion details are on this site somewhere.

Good luck with it. Don't forget to double your expense budget because it ain't cheap. -
I might. See how the weather is looking etc.

So do you need a relay for these? I have one in the Zed at the moment. Also I have 130watt globes that are like 10-15 years old. Pardon my ignorance but are we saying these will be brighter than what I already have? I was going to put in some new lights to replace the older style? Oh electrical work is not my speciality. :-\

Morning Gents, Jodie and I had a great time down at the Island. Was nice to catch up with friends far and wide and see some awesome Zeds. Poor old Gordo missed his goal of a 1.50 time by .03 of a second. Maybe next visit to the track.

My appologies I was hopping you guys might be leaving a bit earlier. I intend to be heading down around 10am. So I won't be able to join you. But it might be an idea if we can all hook up for dinner somewhere that night. Keep that in mind and maybe text around closer to the time. If we were really organised we could book a table for 10 or something? A few of you guys have my number so if keen to have a beer and bite to eat Friday night give me a yell.

I could be joining you guys as well depending on what time and if the Surf is not happening too early Friday.

Yeah we put as much caster on my Zed as possible with out hitting the front guards. Car seemed to handle better but much heavier steering which I put up with for years. But since putting in the power steering in not a problem now. Plus when the body on my car was done I modified, or cut the front guards out a smidgen so I can get another 10mm of caster now. I have been to lazy to move it. But will one day. Go for it Simon. 15mm should be OK. See how that goes first up. Maybe put in some adjustable rods. Remember always think ahead and do things once.

Would you buy this if u had 75k+ to spend on a car
620Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in General Discussions
Sounds like you need something in between. A Zed with a V8 in it. Then you get the best of both worlds and still faster than your Porsche but with the "something different" label. Go on make me an offer. -
Why not try to market them and see if you get any bites. Otherise I would let them go.

Something I want to do in my Zed in SA one year. We need details.

Yeah when I purchased my G-Nose I thought or assumed it would be an easy fit. But we had to make a lot and I mean a lot of mods to get it to fit perfect. I also added the added the bottom lip, some air ducts and strengthend the nose end by silicon in an alloy piece of material on the inside of the nose for strength. Just in case I hit someone. Also put a rubber lip on it to seal the gap between the G-Nose and the bonnet so no air gaps. I figured it would help at high speeds. Regargdless of the cosmetic changes it didn't just bolt on. Apparently most G-Noses made in Aus are from moulds that aren't quite to spec. But after a weeks work and all my mods it came up alright.

Yep I m up for that. Dimitri's place is less than a klm from my work. So I can drive the Zed into work. Ha Like Lurch says it's been a long while. We have plenty of money in the kitty so if you want we could just order Pizza's for direct delivery to Dimitri's place if you like.

Hi guys, thanks for a great weekend. Most of us arrived on Friday arvo. We settled by the river for a swim then later on to the brewery for a few drinks before tea. Then dinner at an Italian place (Table for 11) then back to the brewery drinking till Midnight. Saturday morning we had an early one at 8.30 and drove to Falls Creek. Nice drive up with a few stops along the way. Dales car died. But Lurch got him going on 5 cylinders to get him back to bright. Scott who slept in rang to advise his oil pump died. so we picked him up on the way back. Long story short his car was trailered back to Bright. More swimming in the River that arvo before a big BBQ at the accommodation. Great night. Sunday we drove up to Mt Buffalo. Best drive of the trip for me. Back to Bright around 2ish. Then went to a local water hole for some fun jumping off the rocks into the water. Another BBQ at accom. Grat food and company. Monday another quick sprint up Buffalo and then home. Was over 30deg every day and everyone made it home safely. Tassie next year guys.
