How was it to set up? Compared with other systems? I trying to figure out if I can fit it into my budget before moving (and sending the zed) to Japan (end of the year). It also seems to be the preferable route to go if drive the car regularly (over Weber's or other forms of carbs). What does everyone know of this? I do quite a few long haul'ish trips, so not spending all day at the petrol pump is nice (although being able to get to the pump quickly is even nicer) Huw

Well....as I am killing time without access to my car (overseas).... have been pondering things I would like to do to it....as I drive it daily, am seriously considering EFI but being quite an expensive endeavour I am a bit dubious. My question is, does anyone have experience with the Megasquirt kits? (either assembled or unassembled). They have a huge following at HybridZ but I can see myself creating a whole heap of problems if no one in Australia knows how to fix them when things go wrong. Huw

nice to finally know what they are for.... mine aren't on and my Window rattles....

For Sale 2-1/4 exhaust 240Z 260Z 2 seater SOLD
Huw replied to Zedman240®'s topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
If it doesn't go I may be interested.....I am in Japan until April 7. I REALLY need to put a smaller exhaust on my zed. -
Just a quick comment.... I probably won't respond as in Tokyo at the moment but, Do you need the early 240Z master cylinder for originiality? (are you doing concourse etc). It is possible to fit later ones...I have 280(?) Master and Vac as part of my brake upgrade (my early one was shot too). If you cannot source an original one, consider fitting a later one unless you going concourse. Huw

Given time restraints I haven't been able to look into this in great detail, but there are several problems I see with crushing 'hoon' cars. 1) the definition of hoon, despite any legislative base does often depend on the officer. I know people who have been threatened with such charges driving a 1989 Ford Laser (very hard to 'hoon' in one of those. 2) the ease of replacement of the typical 'hoon cars' means that crushing would be ineffective, as raised earlier most people have a disposable income and can replace a car. Those with cars that warrant protection usually (not always) have the common sense to restrict their driving indulgences to the track or somewhere safe. 3) unfortunately, it is not the car that is the problem, it is the idiot behind the wheel. 4) I do not see how 40km over is in anyway appropriate for a hooning offence, driving on a freeway at 140 (if you know how to.... separate issue altogether) or above is not a problem....driving down a residential street or a school zone 20-30km over is stupidly dangerous, yet would seem to fall outside of the definition. 5) It is true that we get our licences out of a weet-bix box, some thought needs to be put into not only expanding the recording requirements for licencing but introducing a system which trains people in appropriate driving techniques and exposes them to the various environments (night time, snow etc). 6) suspension of a licence often does not prevent the 'hoon drivers' from driving. I know people who have had their licence suspended for either drink driving or speeding and were driving to and from work the next day. 7) Being a strong opponent of unnecessary imprisonment, this is hard to say but given the risks a short term or community service etc may be the most appropriate response. However, culpable driving penalties are already quite heavy and introducing a penalty such as this where no one has been harmed......yet, is difficult. 9) The entire approach to speeding and hoon driving needs to be rethought. Speed limits need to rethought, as does the policing. Highways and relatively safe roads are heavily policed, while local roads and schools are very rarely policed. 10) despite my misgivings about the police enforcement of these laws, whenever I have encountered an officer on a driving related matter, they have been (largely) very reasonable. 11) it is important to remember that speed doesn't kill....sudden stops do. O well....that's my brain fart done, sorry if it doesn't make much sense currently sitting in Tokyo fairly drained from a week of work....need to go for a drive but the zed too far away. Although, I did see a beautiful white 240Z parked next to Tokyo Tower a couple of days ago. Huw

or someone has replaced the wiper motor with a later one and not got round to setting it up right (that's what I have done...kinda annoying but you get used to it)

All i know is don't get any bigger! I running 2.5" and can't wait to find the money to go down a size.... listened to the exhaust mechanic....

Gonna sound really dumb....figured would get aligned with tyres as had been 12 months or so.....no other reason. had been handling well. Will check the Spring rates....again, got done through trackside on their advice for a road car and have been very happy with all rates. no rear anti-roll. stock '71 with front only (for now). had also heard after market ones too hard. If i recall correctly (couple of years back now)....when we restored my zed we shifted it back a bit with the diff. Huw

Yoko's on the rear about 1-2 years old....fronts were bought 3 days ago (Bridgestone).

hmmmm....good to know although...just having a look at the setting sheet they gave me (Bob J) it was fantastic on original setting by Trackside (12 months ago)....but this is what Bob have set it on...I still seem to have toe in on back, Front: Total Toe: +.4 (was -.2 when went in) [+.3 LH +.0 RH] Camber: -0.45s LH -0.10s (was -0.45s, -.05s) Caster: +2.50 LH, +3.4 (was +2.45, +3.10) Rear: Total Toe: +2.4 ) [+2.6 LH, -0.2 RH] <--------Do you think RH is prob? (was +2.6 with +2.4, +.2 Camber: -1.15, -1.15 (was -1.2, -1.15) Suggestions/settings everyone else running would be appreciated. Cheers Huw Caster:

P.S. it a 1971 240. Shocks are KYB numbers. Brakes are 4W disks, stock on front and skyline rears.

Howdy all Just wondering if anyone else finds the zeds 'sudden' in the wet? Mine has been particularly lethal in the wet since restoration, initially because the springs were not the right springs (higher than stock) and setting was impossible....however this has been fixed with new lowered king springs and proper alignment. Suspension is slightly adjustable due to eccentric bushes and front cross member adjuster. Anyway, have put new bridgestones on the front (14") and moved the Yoko's to the back as a result of someone cutting my previous Michelins. Had re-adjusted by local bob Jane (eeeeek....should have waited for Trackside Tyres but had a country drive ahead). Today while driving home, had some interesting tail action going on the zed today in the wet while coming out of a roundabout (large one between on highway between Frankston and Tooradin).... Was travelling at a low speed and accelerated coming out, almost instant loss of adhesion. Anyway......that's the background, today's was a combination of factors but having always had a fairly tail happy zed, was wondering if many other people found them this way, or if there are any suggestions for improving grip and handling in the wet (apart from changing the driver!). I drive it daily but it is at the point where driving on really slippery days is concerning. Huw

Hi all...Zedless newcomer...NO LONGER!
Huw replied to Dandaman's topic in Introductions and Forum Etiquette
Couldn't see all that well from the pictures.... but if it has rust issues sort them before anything...(if more than surface). Slowing/stopping the rot should come first. It is do-able while at uni....finished mine in second/third year (took a while but....). Solid/straight/clean frame lets you do whatever you want engine/interior wise without having to pull it all apart again in 5 years. Huw -
Ok well......had been wanting to do this before heading to Japan (mid jan) but have run out of time and money thanks to some random drunk....in the city deciding that tyres can be cut while people eat dinner..... I have a 280ZX dizzy...the module and shaft are in good nick but it could use a refurbish before getting installed, does anyone know a place that will do that? or is there a kit available? (prefer the former as time and energy poor). Huw
-
Sweet, Daniel was at the top of my list....as he originally tuned my zed :-)....and it could use a retune too.....so that may be most convenient.

Hi all Just went for the pre-christmas thrash of the zed (before I lock it up for silly season)....anyway, had some brake problems a couple of weeks back (own fault...didn't check fluid...dumb). Anyway, even with a fully bled brake system, my zed lacks 'bite' (always has). Pedal comes in quite late and while it pulls up, I believe it should be pulling up quicker. I run R32's on the rear and standard front brakes. I believe it is either proportioning or possibly a booster issue but am no experts so.... 1) Does anyone know a good (and reasonable) workshop for brakes? 2) Any affordable tips for fixing the problem? (I err for number 1 as brakes not worth F,,,ing up) Will likely send it in April as working in Japan and car going to be locked up till then (and I will be broke till then!). Huw

Correct me if I am wrong....I haven't spent any time on 260Z's but I believe they were written up for having a better steering system (shame about being tubby)...which I assume would mean the linkage differs.... but this is only a vague recollection from something i read over 4 years ago so.... Regarding the parts, there are several manufacturers (inc. Noltec in Sydney) who will produce the rubber coupler including metal bits for a 240Z. Can't help you on the shaft though. Huw

ah, that makes sense...thanks... I have tomorrow's procrastination sorted out now.

Nice intake...would never thought of that use! Just a quickie, probably best to move to another topic but....Cold Air intakes and SU's (so diff setup to yours), I didn't think they worked particularly well under pressure? (seem to recall reading somewhere that with SU's forcing the air in can be counter productive...but I am no expert.) The fibreglass mould is an interesting idea. Huw

Just took them off and gave it a bleed (after speaking to a friend). Still was not 100% confident had right so sent to the mechanic, Brakes are one area not to mess with. Still haven't got the bias quite right and really need bigger brakes on the front but most importantly the brakes work and have been working for 3 years now.

I have the R31 rears with stock front, upgraded to the 280 master and a better booster (cannot for the life of me remember which one). I had a similar problem with the R31's and it may be that I was not so familiar with the cars at the time but as sco_aus notes.......you may need to take them off to bleed....took me about 2 weeks (and multiple bottles of fluid) to figure out. I really need to hunt down the hilux calipers....

If you can navigate the Japanese....Nostalgic Heroe (which regularly feature zed's, 2000gt's old skylines etc.....couple of whacky one's too.) and Lightning auto (again in Japanese) are very good. They have some very nice zed's, couple of really nice articles on a rocky auto zed with a NA RB26 in it....etc etc as well as more original ones.

back of mechanics......front passenger guard completely folded in..... all i was left with was white paint from the van.... what annoyed most was the fact that cause they didn't leave details I was 'at fault'......grrr.....
