  1. is this the valve/tap that sits outside the heater box on the drivers side? if it is...mine was stuffed too and you can replace with one from a commodore (VL i think) the replacement has a circular tap arrangement and will not be directly secured to the box but it seems to work and was what Rob at Zqorx recommended to me (mind you he helped put it in too, so i no expert.) 2. try www.hyridz.org in the RB forum... it i has seeral write-ups which should have what u wanna know in them. Huw
  3. well all done.... gearbox is now sitting on floor in shed, waiting to head off to the doctors.... came out ridiculously easy (and i didn't break anything!!) think getting it in may be harder but that's not for a week or two yet :-) Thanks for all the help. Huw

    seats

just fiddly cause all the bolts were crooked and some stripped.... also my car has a raised section behind the rear bolt holes....(my standard carpet kit doesn't fit cause of it) don't know why but it kinda like this ( I=raised section {}=mounts) I {} I{} I I I I I {} I{} anyway, getting the gearbox out is going a lot easier! ready to drop it tomorrow.

    seats

Well...my seats are finally back, reupholstered and re-installed... mind you....i reckon it's almost as bad a job as working under the dash..must be a trick to it. fingers crossed i don't have to pull them out again (think i might to install carpets tho) will put some pics up tomorrow when it's light if i don't get distracted..... 7. was bored one day reading about cars..... saw a zed and was interested (dark blue one on southbank (aus photo's at zhome.com)) 2 and a half years later and 10k overbudget and its almost done in time for my 21st (next month)! good luck getting it finished in schedule JP have been saying finished in a month or two for a year!
  8. Well....have decided that will need to pull gearbox in shed as can't be bothered trailering to workshop and driving might be asking for trouble (have 1,3,5 but no 2,4, Reverse. anyway.....I do have someone who really knows what they are doing, but i've got to set up and begin the process... I plan on putting front end of car either on ramp stands or jack stands and then jacking the rear up and putting that on stands.... now, I'll probably need to buy a proper trolly jack rather than the el-cheapo one i have now to get the height i need..... to get to the point, opinions on this method? has anyone pulled gearbox in the shed? (without hoist!) any suggestions for getting it high enough (safely!) Cheers Huw
  9. might pop in, am working the monash open day so I'm in the area but depends on the break they give me! elvis won't be there (my zed) g/box still F..... and no RW Huw

    carby issues

Pretty sure my dizzy and points are as good as points get....cause i went through them when I had firing issues a little while back.... fuel pressure is definitely something I will look at, cause when i looked in the float bowls a while back, it seemed low to me.... and we didn't replace the pump when rebuilding the engine...... I think it may either be that or a problem with the needle..... At the moment, I'm limited to studd that doesn't cost anything tho :-) will have some re-upholstered seats at the end of the week tho! carby issues

another point that i forgot.... when u plant the foot it goes smoothly up to 3.5 on the tacho, sputters and then continues on (not always happily tho)....

    carby issues

Well, I've been driving my neighbours nuts lately working on the carby tune, anyway, it's roughly synched and balanced (just ordered a tool to do it properly) but strangely it running rich.... strangely because....it only 1 1/2 turns out on richness screw (usually start at 2 1/2-3) but the plugs are still blackening... however, plug 1 & 6 are slightly white (as if lean) with 2,3,4,5 all rich. so I'm a bit perplexed... carbs are kitted (not sure how well) and engine freshly rebuilt... any suggestions? Also, does anyone know where to get the hold down clips for the choke cable on the carbies?? (currently don't have clips, so hard to use choke) Cheers Huw
  13. nah u can't see the scary stuff :-)
  14. both of these are pretty nice..... if my zed wasn't a 71' I'd go that sorta engine setup too! http://forums.club4ag.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=144744 only bit I'm not keen on is the flares but they look right on this one
  15. just a quickie... is anyone familar with how to wire a modern cd player into a zed? was going to pay someone to do it but i feel like having a crack first... Just confused because I have red wire=power and blackis ground but there is also yellow for ign or something etc... any suggestions? Huw
  16. whoops, that's the zed that was my fav before he put the spoiler & flares on...amazing amount of work in it, as long as it doesn't meet the same fate as his 260!
  17. bit too low if you ask me, nice stance but may as well be mowing that lawn :-).... my fav has to be either the turbo v8 in japan (on the zparts site, don't like the engine tho!) or one of the dark blue l28et;s in the states.

    Grille

looks really nice... was anyone taking measurements of them? I'm currently tossing up whether to fix my original grille (turning 2-3 bad ones into 1 good) or whether to try and make one of those ones... did you get yours from ebay or a supplier? Huw

    trouble firing....

Well.....got new plugs....regapped the dizzy and cleared the bores.... cleaned carbies quickly....AND... zed fired first shot...now idling happily in the driveway...damn i wish i had permit/rego so i could go for a spin!! So could have been: -points -plugs -Battery (brand new bosch battery sitting in there now) -carbie? (unlikely) -?? but running very nicely now. Thanks for all the suggestions Huw

    trouble firing....

what fusible link? running on empty now....new battery, plugs have sprk, fuel directly put in.....may be well and truly flooded but even if cleared don't think I'm any closer..... Huw
  21. I used a big tin of that wattyl kill rust to rust proof my zed (on top of filling all the cavities with oil).... we found it was best not to thin it and just brush it on nice and thick.... i think the big can was something like $70... seems like good stuff, but time will tell

    trouble firing....

Mine's a mechanical fuel pump, have a 71' 240.... pulled the hose off both carbies and cranked engine (disconnected so no spark!!) and squirted petrol into a jar....so unless it's a problem within the carbies (rebuilt) i should have petrol.... The petrol was a bit....lethargic in its splurts but then I've never looked at a healthy one so..... Plugs were wet initially bu in the last couple of checks no...so I really stumped.... Huw

    trouble firing....

only problem is then i need to rewire the tacho don't i? cause the 240 tacho's don't run with the 280 tacho's do they? might try that tomorrow before work. although, it was running very well last week, which is why I'm confused...

    trouble firing....

well here we go..... 1) there is spark at the plugs 2) there is also healthy spark at the coil/dist 2) just corrected the gap at the points (but still not firinng (was a bit too close) 3) all timing seems correct both at dizzy and the engine. 4) checked all tacho connections, they good.... anyway...still not firing, recharging the battery now and checking fuel pump and carbies.....although aerostart didn't fire it either (through the carby mouth)..... Stumped... :?: Huw
