My car is running skyline rears and stock front. can't tell you how well they run cause I haven't had a chance to properly 'run it in' (not registered yet) I can tell you that they work...... I little trick with the bracket.... on mine someone had done a bad job converting the rear drums to 280 discs (and I mean a REALLY bad job (explains how many times it was crashed!)) so we had a 280 bracket lying around...all that was required was welding up the holes and redrilling them in an acceptable position. It would look nicer with a factory one tho (although u can get them plated afterwards (which is what i did). Anyway, just another option. Huw

ok, this is how i understand it..... The name SU refers to Skinners Union, they were originally created by some british chaps, and were used on a lot of the English cars..... The datsun carburettors are a japanese COPY of the SU's. So technically speaking they are Hitachi SU's.... the best explanation of them I've found was on: http://zparts.com/ As far as nozzlesetc go, u can get the nozzle for the fuel bowl from Nissan, you can also get 'fuel miser' kits from some carburettor shops. I got mine from a place down in Cheltenham Road in Melbourne (will try to remember name) think it was round $80. anyway, hope that helps. better stop procrastinating and do my asignment :-) Huw

for bushings, in Australia, I believe Noltec in sydney are good, can get eccentric bushes etc which will give u limited adjustability in suspension w/o going all out. (have a look at www.noltec.com.au for prices and parts+details) Along those same lines, K-mack(?) makes a part which you drill and weld into front crossmember allowing slight adjustment of front camber as well. I've their bushes throughout but have only just got new tyres and adjustments so I don't know how it drives yet!! hope that helps Huw

if it's any help, i got quoted (can't remember exactly) for 15k agreed value (upon inspection) by Shannons, for $1,300 with no restrictions on how much i can drive etc. I'm only just 20. so in the 'dangerous' category. if you are in ndsoc, mention this when u get a quote as it dropped my quote down quite substantially. mind you, have a stock l24 with headers, so basically stock. think i got it.... well just before work i started playing with the individual throttle adjustment screws a bit more, have equal air flow now, but still doesn't seem quite right......think I'll go through the full tuning process tomorrow. will get the aerostart tomorrow and check for leaks..apart from that the carbs should be ok as they were fully rebuilt and bushed a couple of months ago (and haven't been used since).... anyway, thanks for the help. hey everyone got a small problem in that my front carbie is acting normally (sucking like a vaccuum cleaner!) but my back one has almost no suction at all. thus I'm getting a funky idle. I'm currently looking for an air leak somewhere, but have spent 2 days tightening and clamping with no luck. was wondering whether anyone would have any suggestions? I am running headers but we were pretty careful when we mounted them to avoid a leak. (and they're a bastard to get at!!) cheers Huw

why not get a tandem trailer and a mate (or hire) a ute? don't know which is cheaper but I've always used a trailer until i could get a drive permit. Huw

hey, no idea on where to get the panels, am currently looking into it myself as my passenger side one is F.....ed, one suggestion someone made to me is to take it down to dashboard restorations (or a similar place) and see if they can plastic weld/repair it. however, if you find a good source of the panels, please post it cause I really want to get it right rather than bodging up. Well, exhaust finally all organised... took it down this morning (hehe, 7am no muffler=fun :-) ) just picked it up about an hour ago...sounds great 2.5" straight through muffler and resonator. anyway, to the point. I got it done at Exhaust City, on cnr of Reserve and Park rd, Cheltenham(don't know number). and he did a great job. only a couple more things to do and I'm on the road! Huw

well, the brakes are working on my zed now, took it for it's first real drive on the way back from the workshop yesterday, with no exhaust system. I'm thinking of keeping it that way, sounded bloody brilliant and you could annoy the private schoolers so easily :-) (live next to a private school). felt dumb tho cause was heading home, and suddenly loses all grunt, I'd forgotten to put any bloody petrol in the damn thing!! that was a laugh. hopefully can have it all going and registered by the next cruise. all i know is it was made, in japan by OS Giken and that it costs a bloody large amount of money (had a look a while back) can't remember where, sorry. Huw

just a word of warning, I got my weatherstripping from MSA and large sections of it are too big, leaving panels sticking out a bit much, have basically solved it but it's a nuisance. I'm still opening and shutting and adjusting to get them down a bit. if you can get a smaller/closer to original stripping will be better. (but i don't think u can).... good luck Huw

sounds like what my pug was doing, when the starter was on the go... as natez says, if giving the starter a whack temporarily fixes it take the car to a sparky (or a friend who can fix a starter) or just get a new one. p.s. mine was quite funny, got to stage where had metal tube in passenger seat that I'd grab out at uni or anywhere and whack the starter before heading off. got a lot of stares (my pug is 1969 brown 404). bit of a PITA anyway, good luck huw

well, a carpenter/cabinet maker mate has offered to have a crack at them whilst making me a gear knob out of walnut :-). so hopefully can make some progress shortly. was thinking of the patching with either masonite or fibreglass options, just a bit hard cause on slightly curved lower part. will see what my mate says when he see's them. thanks for the help. on another note, checked my booster for vacuum today, that was funny :-) another job for better brakes. huw

on a similar note, has anyone tried to make their own rear box like motorsport auto sells? for 6x9 speakers, because I'd like to try and do a neater/no fuzzy speaker carpet job. It's just for a basic setup, 6x9 in back and other speakers in or around door. nothing major. advice, suggestions appreciated.

well... I'm finishing the interior of my zed and have just stripped the door trims down only to see that the drivers side trim has a bloody great hole in bottom of the masonite sheet (no it's not for the door handle!). I've reupholstered all the vinyl and padding etc today but need to fix the panel itself before reassembling it all... does anyone know how to fix masonite or where i could get a new door trim? cheers Huw

hey all back working on my zed when this heat lets up (o for an air con in the shed :-), maybe i should move zed into my room! anyway, zed is ready for exhaust and registration (basically) but i need to get my brakes and clutch right first. all hooked up...have taken brakes apart a couple of times, lengthened the rod in the master, had master reco'd, and adjusted all the pedals......now I'm hoping I've just bled them badly or used bad fluid because I still can't get a good pedal, they work but (esp. initially) the pedal can be pushed to the floor. I can also hear something moving around when I'm bleeding rear brakes, would that just be air? there are no leaks in the system that i can find.....but i did have pipes plated (bad move but too late, 40% brand new anyway (unplated)) having great dun driving it up and down driveway tho :-) any help would be appreciated. cheers huw

to my knowledge (having encountered 2-3 of them during my retoration AVOID taiwanese guards, they either do not fit well, are out of proportion or just plain wrong. I would spend the extra money to get some proper guards, you'll get a better car as a result. Huw

colour is 1973 Nissan/datsun 307 'pacific blue'. with a glasurite paint. the prep work(rob, zworx), painter and oven owner were all different ppl and places (Gotta love trailers), so it gets kind of complicated. honestly, i can't keep track of how much I've spend on the prep etc, but with me helping along the way, all body work (and parts are around 10k mark) paint, including materials would (a guess) be around 4-5k. huw

finally, my car is painted!! pictures will be up tomorrow, (I'll get some whilst I'm assembling it), but anyway, it looks good. The only thing is, this week is gonna be a bit of a rush because, i have to be running assembled by thursday for the exhaust (trailering there, driving home). anyway to cut a long story short. Does anyone know anything about 1 day permits? requirements etc? also can you get 'trip insurance'? shannons were a bit vague. cheers for any help huw

Just for arguments sake...... i believe units/estates etc (anything with a body corporate) are a different kettle of fish, as apart from the usual legislation, they may (under vote from members of body) establish new regulations/rules in regards to that body. also, i don't know if this helps, but i recently used the LIV.com.au (law institute of Victoria) site for a law assignment and this is what they have to say re: noise http://www.liv.asn.au/public/legalinfo/neighbour/neighbour-Noise.html but they do refer you onto councils as well, so the regs may differ. factory sounds like a good idea though (keeps things vaguely civil & there's more room to put your tools and parts!!! hehe) you could make putting a nice loud system on your zed when it's done a priority too.......you could warm both up :-) hehe you can tell i don't want to do exam study anymore.
