i don't know if this helps, but what i did for my 240 (my radiator was 2 core (1971)) and the 280 3 core one was too tall (bottom of radiator hung down too low). so i pulled a 260 2 core radiator that was in good nick, took it to a radiator shop (on foam st, mordialloc). Whilst it was being checked and tested for leaks, i asked them to change it into a 3 core radiator. this took about 3 days (including getting parts in) and was pretty cheap. so the radiator is now 3 core, and fits really well (looks stock(ish) too). hey, i'd have to agree with camoflage on this.... I always thought that there was a timeframe during the day (actually thought it was till a little bi later 8 or so when you could do whatever you wanted). regardless of the new laws, I would check, and find out the details of the complaint (e.g. whether they said to the council that you were grinding away all hours etc). look it up for 2 reasons, 1) to finish the zed and 2) so you know the rules better than they do :-) good luck

hehe, just finishing off my zed, bout to paint it (have been about to paint for 3 months but this is the real deal (oven & paint/prep all ready (SATURDAY!! yay)). after throwing around 20k at the little money pit (called elvis (lots of hits (before resto)) my father goes and buys a beautiful 73 240 for 12k! (mine will be faster tho!!!!) i did get to drive it in the hills around druin though....do you reckon the reccomended speed signs are in mph or kph? :-) very jealous, but at least there'll be spare parts :-).

i'd agree with toecutter there.... the dye comes out well on panels etc if you clean them thoroughly with soap and thinners, then let them dry. as sulio said, do light coats, you can always put another on whereas curtains are a pain...(trust me i got a couple when i got lazy! (and had to fix them)) I wouldn't use it on any panels that will be used heavily (e.g for sitting in, etc.), and I'd be cautious using them on the soft vinlyl trim (use it on the plastic panels ((and if you can afford it, buy a brand new vinyl kit for the soft stuff and seats)). I wish i had some photo's of the blue interior, i might go into the shed and get some shots of the soft stuff i took off. but not today (exams, gotta hate em) Huw

p.s i reckon with a dark red/burghundy you can either go black (p/haps with highlighting on the edges for seats or something) or a lighter colour, i wouldn't go the burghundy.....but i've never been good with colors.

hey zeddophile another option for yours (being a white zed) is the blue interior, mine was a 71' white zed and had this metallicy blue interior, could look ok, have never seen one fully done properlky, mine now dyed black as car now blue. Huw

If you still have the originals, what i did was go down to my local specialised fasteners store (coventry fasteners, melbourne bolt co.) with the bolts and asked for 50 of each type (esp. the high tensile etc.) it ends up being fairly cheap and you have lots of spares spares :-) However, be careful if the head of the bolt needs to be a certain size (b/c Australian standards have changed in the last 30 years and in one case I could not buy new HT bolts with a head small enough b/c they couldn't be legally produced. In that case, i got them from a wrecker and Zworx. But it is best to get the new ones from. Hope this is some help.

hey guys, be careful with jokes about furr.... when i got my zed last year, the previous ower had covered ALL (and I mean all) of the vinyl trim in blue shag felt/furr, it took me over a week of solid goo remover fumes (hehe enjoyable week :-)) and toothbrushing to get them clean (and then i go and buy a new set!!) so the furr is a touchy subject! btw I reckon black is the way to go with the zed (but a well done white job like on a mustang wouldn't be too bad. just my 2c Huw

some good news finally, my zed will be painted by saturday week *yay* (been in primer for close on 1.5 months). now, i was just thinking what do you reckon the chances of getting it to the concourse are? engine runs, just need exhaust system, tuning, fix seats and upholstery and register...., in short assembly, i think :-) I'm on a budget b/c going to shanghai after my uni exams (more study, yay :-( ). do you reckon there is any chance of getting it there? would it be worth day permitting it in? (not sure if i want to register before i go because then my dad can drive it while im gone!!!) just idle curiousity cause I'd love to show it (15k has gone into it) Huw

does anyone know a good exhaust joint? I've heard there's one on warrigal road that is quite good but have no idea. anyone replaced there's lately? huw

just a further note, they did my dash and centre console, can't remember the price but it was very reasonable for the quality of the work. Dash looks great as does the console. Huw

I'm mainly after a half cage and was looking at getting it when get back from china & japan in January. So was thinking that i could get a list of some places. however, if you are in no hurry and it's a half cage..... (must be a half b/c it's going to be my daily)

hey sometime in the next fortnight (hopefully) I'm going to need get a 2.5" exhaust system for my Z. was just wondering whether anyone knew a good (pref. affordable too) exhaust shop? b/c i want the system to be really close on the underside of the car (seem some that were hanging down like dogs ......) what price do you reckon i'll be looking at? cheers Huw

Hey everyone Am just pondering whether any of you are running with half cages? if so where did you get it & how much? Just thinking about it at the moment cause i just realised how small the car is and how big some of the other things on the road are (o yeh and i plan on going on track days w/ club) can anyone think why a 1/2 cage would be a problem for a daily driver? well if it's any help, i did mine about two months back, we got a fuel miser kit from a place down near the end of cheltenham road (rob from zworx knows the name, wozza should too) anyway the kit was around $80 and included gaskets, needles and jets, the only other part that needed to be bought was the needle and seat for the fuel bowl bit (mine were in pretty good knick so i wouldn't stress with this unless they run funny) but i got them from nissan for $60.00. the kit went in really well (and if u wait a couple of months i'll tell you how it runs :-) ) sorry i can't be of more help Huw

I was wondering the same thing, until I heard and had a good look at dimitri's fuel injected l28 260Z. the flexibility of that system tends to appeal to me more than triple webbers as it's more flexible and mine's going to be a daily. anyway, just my two cents Huw

hehe, matt my mistake was to take warren (zworx's) green 260 with triple webbers for a lap around the block (on my best behaviour of course), the itch to get mine finished hasn't stopped since then. so...the moral is don't drive someone else's zed before you finish yours!

Yah, I've been itching to drive mine for a while but still working on the last paintjob, never driven it but it sounds great (which makes the wait suck even more ) At the moment rob at Zworx is doing th elast bit of adjustment before paint but he can't do it till good-weather so..... But yeh, no fun waiting. Huw

hehe, well its time i was working on the brakes for my car, I've now got a solid leak free system, tested and resealed master cylinder and plenty of brake fluid. I've corrected the pin on the booster (280Z booster in 240Z cause have skyline rears and will have 4x4 fronts) but i still can't get the brakes bled right. When bled it goes hard and then softens up again. does anyone have any advice? I was thinking of cheating and taking it to a specialist once the painting is done so that i don't kill myself (and more importantly don't damage the zed ;-) ) Cheers Huw

Hey I've just discovered that a box of parts has gone walkies to some unknown part of the world/garage :oops: . it was almost empty but am now short the assembly for my 71 Zed's hand throttle and choke (the brackets (for under arm/console bit) and black levers. I've been told you can get the levers from nissan but does anyone have any idea for the bracket sections? Cheers Huw

from memory (i got trade b/c went through zworx for half of the stuff) the disks were around $50 each (list 100+) -rear calipers (can't remember sorry, may have got from Zworx) (but have discovered Better Brakes has new ones (skyline calipers)) and kits to repair old ones (or they can repair for you (they sell seal kits pretty cheap but after doing it myself i'd pay them to do them for you). -pads were next to nothing, -steel braided lines about $25 each (matched to samples). All i had to do is machine my old backing plate to fit on. and drill some new mount holes. So it's not sold in a kit form but if u know what you want it works out a lot less than $1200. (is that z workshop brissie?) I reckon all up it's cost me (just for rear brakes) around $200 (but calipers may add a bit) I can't tell you how well it works cause I'm not rolling yet. the guy who runs the place seems to know his stuff well too. I'll try and put a pic or too up once i have my brakes bled tomorrow evening (got an exam in the morning ($%%@!!! takes all my time from car :-) ) hope that helps Huw

just a quick flog for: Better Brakes, cheltenham great bunch down there, knows what he's talking about and reasonably priced. never had a problem with them (they supplied all parts for rear disk conversion, clutch and are doing lines now) They're down near DFO

Hating brake lines at the moment, my old ones keep leaking and I'm only noticing one at a time!! anyone got some advice? (apart from getting new ones made, which im doing)? Huw' hates brake lines
