Be my guest. Lol. It's hard enough work doing it for HS30s...

I've had my 72 since 2002. I started dating my now wife around the same time. I think the article is an excellent summary of why we like to stick with something we love.

In the lead up to the official launch of the new Nissan Z, HS30 00004 has been put on display at Nissan's HQ in Mulgrave Victoria. So if you want to go have a look you may be allowed depending on who you speak with.

That's where I went, hopefully you were happy with the regraph on your Z?

Thanks, that's what I kind of figured happened. Is there a specific process for that green colour I should ask the platers to use, do you know? I have a spare set of rails because I damaged the threads on the ones in my car when I modified my car to suit Recaro's (big mistake) anyway, I will tap and die the threads back to good and then send off the rails for replating because I bought another pair of rails years ago (for $100) from the US but they were a bit rusty/messy looking at since I installed the Ikeda Bussan seats the rails are a lot more exposed and look crap, where as the stock seats would cover them more from view. I have a couple of spare 280zx distributors here, I couldn't find them at the time otherwise I would have had all of them restored also. So maybe I can offer people an exchange service? Sounds like yours have been nicely done. I was in the process of doing that kind of plating for my '240z' points distributors, but the shaft was stuck in the housing and no amount of heat seemed to free it.

The floor pans are different on 260z vs 240z and therefore the sound deadening material will be a different pattern. I'm not sure if he offers the later style? There is a couple of guys in Europe who do excellent high end restorations and may be able to help re: 260z patterns as they had made up their own material in the original style from memory I'll see if I can find a link (Chris who does the 240z reproduction fuel tanks is 1 of them).

By the way here is the distributor I bought off you recently restored. I had it vapour honed, rebuilt and re-graphed to suit a stock 240z ignition curve (w SU's etc..). Quite happy with how it turned out. I didn't do the work on it myself, I had a shop do it as part of the re-curve. But they made it look pretty. As with all used 280zx distributors they are often stuffed in terms of advance mechanism, with the ball bearings and cage in bits. This was no different. I also had another done at the same time minus vacuum advance assembly for the Triple Mikuni 240z (My 72 240z). Cost a small fortune but hopefully it stops my red car pinging from too much advance.
-
Can you tell me if they were pulled apart for the process? I've got a spare set I wouldn't mind sending off for replating but I am not sure how / if they come apart easily and they are covered in a grease to help them slide, which I would think would hinder their plating ability if not cleaned off.

Details I have. Listed Oct 2021 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/903493323613291/ Maraylya, NSW Asking $60k Seller: Thomas Rawling Did you buy it off Thomas?

Interesting car, I wonder if the 1991 signature was for the Nissan / Datsun Nationals event back then and perhaps it won an award?

And when you want new sound deadening... This guy sells it. Cut like OEM. https://www.stuffharrydoes.com/online-store -
Assume good, but may need some work such as straightening and polishing of the journals etc. like anything though they will be used so I can't make any guarantees about them.

Not sure. I see in Japan a couple of options also. http://mspeed-japan.com/product_information.php?page_num=1&category_id=7 There was a rare factory option A/C kit for S30z's and early ones in particular. Very rare to find and I think only offered in Japan.

Nothing about that vintage air install looks easy to me. Lots of things to trip you up along the way. Far too generic, if you ask me. For what should be a fairly popular model (S30z) to build a dedicated kit for.

Refer to original post. I know you've managed to fix original 260z A/C units in customers cars before. Who have you used for parts etc..? My 71 has a dealer option A/C installed and compressor seems to kick in when I turn it on, but when I asked an A/C specialist about regassing he looked at the photos of the lines and charge port and was perplexed having never seen that style before (so must be really old).

Just looking at this topic again, with summer coming. I think having A/C in a 240z/260z is the way to go given how hot summer is here. I was going to ask if they did a 240z kit but looks like they do. https://autoacsolutions.com/products/ac-kits/1970-1971-1972-1973-datsun-240z-air-conditioning-heater-defrost-complete-add-on-kit/

I think you'll have to take a long hard look at yourself.

I am interested in your feedback re: quality when they arrive. Like a lot of things in the S30z community. Lots of resellers adding their markup to prices. So I always try to find who is the original supplier.
-
Yeah I got the impression you didn't want them on the red car.
-
I thought the fender mirrors were not your "bag"? Best place to find the black S30Z long stalks is usually in Japan. https://www.carandclassic.com/magazine/classic-cars-five-reasons-why-theyre-great/ Not really bubble related, but good to focus on not just the money / investment side of things and remember it's also about the community and the joy they can bring (as much as the frustrations).

I like restoring things to look nice and fresh again. Some things can't be patched up and easily mended to keep going. It's better to do it right in those instances, but to each their own.
