Just came across this, thought it looked pretty cool. http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/06/25/car-spotlight-gt-rocky-auto-c110-skyline.aspx

Proxy servers are your friend. http://www.hidemyass.com/ (not it's not porn). As a side note I'm looking forward to seeing progress on your bluebird wagon there. Is it a 410 wagon?

Welcome Matthew, I thought the term Granny Spec applied to cars such as the 120Y, 180B, 200B etc.. The 260z 2+2 or otherwise was always a pure-bred sports car. So whilst there may be a few grey headed birds driving them around now, I can guarantee you when they were new in 75,76,77 those grey haired gals were foxy young ladies w00t .

No problems. You might also want to checkout http://www.chipfoose.com/ Chip Foose designed the Shelby Mustang GT500 Replica used in Gone in 60 Seconds. He does an excellent job in my opinion of making subtle modern changes but keeping that cool vintage look. There are some projects on his site, but there was also a TV show called 'overhaulin' which had some cool restorations. Here is 1 example, you may find more on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzU-BHq1r4c You can see the Hemi Cuda has an orange paint job with a deep brownish 2 tone colour. Looks awesome, could look good on a Z too and Big Sam (In the UK) had a similar colour scheme, not to mention the rally cars also as you first mentioned in this thread.

a cool thread showing another 2 tone paint job on the BSR car. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/240z/19972/page1/

Hey mate, I've considered the same thing in terms of giving my car an old school livery design and 2 tone paint job. The BRE cars look awesome with the white section lower down, but red across the top. I'd use the BRE two tone and line divisions. http://www.datsunracing.us/RC-World/SCC_03-07/240z+front_left_full.jpg However instead of red go with the blue like the 2000GT. I've actually been thinking of doing the same kind of thing, but instead of a flat colour like red and blue / white etc.. I was thinking of painting my 240z in Silver (since it was originally Silver) and giving it a second tone of a deep metallic red. I have no idea if it will look good, so I've been thinking the best thing to do is use Photoshop to come up with your concept and if you are happy with that, then take it to the next step.

Sounds like a great idea and would be happy to have a sticky post on this subject. I personally know very little in this area and would love to learn more about setting up a Z properly - since I feel my own suspension could use some proper adjustment. Here are 2 good books I've been thinking of ordering... http://www.amazon.com/dp/0912656468 http://www.amazon.com/dp/0912656093

Removing old topics would be a massive job for the admins and moderators of the site. Since it would have to be done manually to ensure that "old topics" that were useful or had useful information for members were not deleted. It might be possible in future that old forum topics get archived and some sort of weighting issue would allow members to vote / rate posts so that old topics that were still relevant appear in results pages etc.. (if you have ever used Gmail, you'll probably be familiar with this). In general before posting a reply it's a good idea to check when the last reply was made to a topic so you can get a sense of how old the thread is.

Thanks for the feedback, will definitely keep it in mind. There is a long way to go before I consider charging for classifieds. It's just an option at this stage, but perhaps we could have free classifieds, but charge a small fee for premium. eg: Free = ability to list a car for sale with say 3 images. Premium = always at top of lists and promoted to homepage, with unlimited images. Just some ideas. I think it should be possible to get advertising to cover the websites costs eventually. It might mean that more advertising appears throughout the site though. So it would need to be done in a manner which doesn't impact the sites usefulness and annoy existing members. Again not something that will change for a while yet.

For example: http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8866857 It's probably as exciting to drive as a trip to the dentist, but that's the whole point. You won't spend any additional money on it. Just service it and use it.

Hey mate, You want to keep as much cash free as possible for your Z so knowing that go cheap.. Here is a checklist - Fuel Injection - 4 Cylinder 1.8 or 2.0ltr (non turbo) - Hatch back (4 door) So something like a Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Nissan probably around $5k in clean condition. Should be cheap on insurance, parts etc.. I bought a 89 Toyota Corolla SX (4AGE) great little engine, clean inside and out and pretty reliable, good on fuel and insurance. As a student I managed to save some cash driving it around and it was good that friends could hop in the back easily and I could go to the beach, leave it in the sun - although it was red (get a white car for low maintenance colour) so I tried to keep it polished . In the end it was broken into in a car park and smashed to bits by a bunch of W@nkers who stole the stereo and bend the door backwards, slashed the tyres etc.. I was devastated and insurance didn't cover it since it wasn't stolen, just broken into (3rd party useless insurance). If you get another Datsun you'll probably be tempted to work on it and spend money on it. Also carbs are not fuel efficient really and the old L-series is not very fuel efficient either. Very reliable, but not great on fuel by today's standards. I'd suggest trying to find a 1 elderly owner Toyota Corolla that's been immaculately cared for since new and regularly serviced. You can enjoy, just driving it without caring about image or where you park it. Save the money for the Z beast.

Actually a slight mis-understanding on my behalf. The car is not for sale, rather he wanted to bring it to the attention of our members (well vintagejdm.com) but I said I would post here since this site is bigger. **Contact details removed... -

Yeah pretty amazing original owner car. If you ever wanted to get 1 of these this would be the car to get I'd say. This car actually came through via www.vintagejdm.com - I really should continue to work on this site. Has so much potential for finding great examples of classic J-tin like this. -
I do ask members to make a contribution toward the site if they sold an item as a result of listing it here. I have also considered creating a paid classifieds system and still might in future. Charge a flat rate of $3.00 to list parts and maybe $10 to list cars until sold etc.. On another note, since people have been contributing toward hosting and we have exceeded the target for June, I decided to extend the date to December and that way people can see how much money we need to pay for hosting until the end of the year. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far the response has been really amazing and I really appreciate it.

I have an original (I purchased the car new) HGC 110 240 K 4-door sedan that has only travelled 87,000 country miles. The car is on historic plates. It is in showroom (concours) condition and I would like to make its identity known to your members. Regards, Ron Hutton Contact Details Removed

Yes my 240z is early 72 and had this yoke style driveshaft and gearbox fitted, although the previous owner decided to refit my car with a later box and L28 engine. Looks like your car was originally Safari gold, any plans to go back to this colour? I realise it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Wow guys, I just had a look at the donations and it seems we raised almost double. $352 of $177 needed for this month. I guess this should cover us for next month too. Really appreciate it and will review all the donations received and update anyone who needs to be updated to donating member status.

Very good points, I tend to agree. I'm trying to get myself into an FD-RX7 which is pretty cheap here and I was wondering the same thing about storing it and then shipping it back to Australia. I'm pretty certain you have to own the vehicle for at least 1 year before you can import it into Australia duty free. However does this mean you have to have had the car registered and been driving it for 1 year or just stored it away? I guess this is what I'm trying to clarify. Here in Ireland it's NCT (National Car Testing) which is the same as a RWC in Australia, then you have road tax which is based on engine capacity as you mentioned. With the rotary they pull out some b.s figure of 1.7 ltr engine god knows how they got to that figure from a 13B. Then insurance and that's the killer 2,500 euro ouch! and I'm 28, no claims, perfect driving record full licence etc.. "oh but you have no experience on Irish roads" load of bollocks, I've been driving rental cars around for the past 3 years without a bother. Like you said I can get an FD-RX7 pretty cheap, compare that to Australia and you are looking at min 20k for an older 1992 / 1993 model. I can get a 1999 model for less than half that.

Knock yourself out, this is the off topic section after all . The Australian market is flooded with second hand cars, so it seems strange that cars are priced so high. I'm sure there are more cars for sale then there are buyers so it still perplexes me.
