  1. Looks nice from those angles, but I've never been a fan of a Z convertible. I feel it ruins the Z-car's distinctive lines, it was always meant to have that side profile with a curvy roofline. I think about the only car I have ever preferred in convertible form is the 69 Corvette.

    240Z ?

    New toy Lurch?
  3. Nice work Mark. I'm wondering what that tool is you use to remove the paint? It looks like it is pretty easy to go back to bare metal with it. I always thought you needed chemical based products to lift paint off. Bit of a body work newbie myself here.
  4. Hi Ric, Welcome to the site, ordinarily I'd say using your first post to sell something is a bit cheeky. However before any of the other mod's jump on this, I figured I'd say it's ok. However do introduce yourself and tell us about your 240z. We are a friendly bunch of enthusiasts afterall.
  5. I have considered the same thing mate and my point of view is to build as much of the motor on my own as possible. I'm even contemplating doing the port work and port matching myself (then getting it matched by computer / flow bench later). Yes you could make mistakes, yes it could cost you more in the long run, but at the same time you will certainly learn a lot more and if it works out well for me I'd consider building motors for other members too. For me the fun part of working on cars is the satisfaction of having done it yourself and learnt something new. If you are the same way I'd definitely consider doing most of the work myself. You have the forum members with expertise who can probably help out and might even come around to give you some guidance. The Datsun L-series books are very detailed and useful, so you should be ok provided you keep a clean working environment and keep all parts organised.
  6. Yeah I seriously doubt any of the numbers listed in this thread or the other are very accurate. I'm almost certain there are more 240z's sold in Australia than the list shows. Also why are there no numbers for the Japanese market? I'm pretty sure Brian Long's Fairlady Z to 280zx has some numbers listed in it. Again no idea how accurate they are, but hopefully the likes of Alan Thomas will see this thread and be able to shed some light on the matter.
  7. 1974 Datsun 240z? http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8537154 Asking $35k, but too cheap to upload a photo .
  8. Orange 240z on Carsales.com.au - think it was also advertised here. http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8658027 Asking $14k Running an L26 with twin SU's. Car is used as a daily and has had a tune recently. Running well with no mechanical issues, apart from "needing" an electronic point distributor - currently running the old type found on early L26's, which is not particularly efficient. Reasonably original, unrestored 1973 240z. 260z wheels, mx5 seats and aftermarket steering wheel are only mods. Interior in good condition with 3 small cracks in the dash and 1 crack in the centre console. Body is in good condition and has extremely minimal rust. Great to restore or as a daily (current disposition). Selling due to new job needing a modern car that portrays a more professional image and cannot afford to keep the zed.
  9. So what are these 4? They are not the same car either.
  10. You'll probably get this 1 too easily.
  11. Yes well done. I had never seen 1 till recently. There is a nice yellow 1 on youtube.com Aren't they famous for being the most hated car in Australia? LOL, well it certainly wasn't a best seller. I think 10 were officially produced or something like that.
  12. I'm gonna take a punt and say it's the engine that was found in the Nissan President and was also used in the 280zx (turbocharged in the states) for racing, producing around 800+ HP.
  13. He has owned a few 280zx's so he should be used to a bit of rust. Although the ZX's were slightly better prepared for rust than the 240z / 260z / 280z's were. +1 for body work and rust. Accident damage is also a big issue. So many of these cars have had more hits than Elvis. Check the chassis rails, floors and battery area in particular. These are structural areas that are expensive to repair. Avoid sunroof installations since the unibody chassis on a Z is weakened by a sunroof (+ they look ugly IMHO). You can tell if the front end of a Z has been smacked about pretty easily. Check panel alignment / GAP in particular a Z that's been smacked around won't line up right. I'd almost say you are better off finding a good condition 2 seater and doing the engine swap yourself. You'll be hard pressed to find a 240z / 260z that meets your requirements.
  14. Ok so this is not a Nissan, but a rare bird that I'm hoping someone can identify So what is it? I'll give you a hint, it's definitely not Japanese and a very small amount were made.
  15. Here is a unique car .
  16. Here is another 1.
  17. This is a good game. We have to find a difficult 1 though.
  18. Yeah I think Steve will do a great job.
  19. Fantastic, Greg I am in the process of modifying the existing featured member rides into the new format (some are already in the new format and others are not). When I update your ride I think I'll update the pics to use some of these. If you don't mind of course.
  20. Did you get the message through here or carsales.com.au? If you were contacted by someone through here please let me know.
  21. As much as I hate to shatter your dreams. Lurch is somewhat correct, I had a Z as my first car and it was a great experience but also probably not the most suitable one. If you are a student you will be too broke to fix it. If I was going to do things differently I would have got myself a small economical 4 banger like a Toyota Prius and saved my cash for the "right 240z". As much as I hate to say it as a P-plater you will probably be involved in at least 1 minor accident (hopefully minor). So it's better to learn in a something that isn't a Z. I was in an accident as P-plater myself, although it was not my fault. It still wrote off my 260z 2+2. If it was my 240z I would have been even more devastated. Of course your circumstances may be different to mine and if you want a 240z and your heart is set on it. Do it, enjoy it and have fun. Keep in mind insurance costs also, since insurance companies love to ream us young males for liking cars such as sports cars.
  22. At that starting price, I want a front bumper damn it. Agree 12k would be more reasonable, but even then it might be optimistic as suggested. I couldn't agree more. All those cars that sit on carsales.com.au are there because they are still essentially a project car. I'm all for Z values going up, but no one in their right mind is going to pay $20,000 for a Z that still needs restoration. God loves people who try!
  23. Link: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-260Z-1975_W0QQitemZ120559375603QQ Item Number: 120559375603 Asking Price: AU $16,990.00 Owner Description: Here is something you don't see everyday - Extremely rare! Fully engineered street legal 260Z with a V8, complete with engineers certificate and documented rego papers. Has NSW registration till late Dec 2010. The car was originally built for dragway or hill climbing. It literally goes like a ROCKET !! The interior has been fully restored, body is straight and paint work is extremely good with only a couple of flaws but very presentable. A real head turner! The motor is a Rover 3.9litre V8 that has been boarded and stroked to a 5litre and only done 1034km since re-build. It has a Big Cam which gives it a bice lumpy idle and its all controlled by a Haltech Ecu. It has a Torque Flite Auto Transmission with a small High Stall Converter and a "B & M Shifter". The car has Extractors and a new 3 inch Dual Exhaust System which has great sound, the fuel tank has been removed to accommodate the huge exhaust system and a Fuel Cell with Baffles has been installed in the rear of the car, it hold approx 53litres of fuel, Bosch fuel pump and swirl pot. The car is cooled by twin thermos fans. A full compliment of gauges, sports steering wheel, CD player, new 18inch alloys & rubber , new dark window tint. The car is clear of any titles. Will be sold as is and with no Warranty. Serious enquiries only please. The car is advertised elsewhere and I reserve the right to remove it from auction at any time. Successful bidder to make communication within 24 hours after auction finishes. I am happy to assist with interstate buyers with any and all transport costs at the buyers expense of course. Good luck and happy bidding.
  24. Of course, an ICE only needs fuel and air to run. It's been done before in Japan there were a few S30's and even some Skyline C10's with RB25 engines that were converted to Carburetors. The big question is why though? EFI has so many advantages and I imagine the EPA would not like it either. I'm fairly certain the rule books say that an engine swap must conform to the emission standards of the year the engine was produced. It may be different with a 240z shell since they were pre-emission but anything after 75 I think you have a problem. I have no experience myself with RB motors so I'm not the best to advise on the topic.
