  1. Thanks Peter, I understand not everyone is able to donate on a regular basis but other ways to contribute are to: 1. Answer newbie questions and point them in the right direction, even just welcoming them makes a big difference and helps the community. 2. Creating technical how-to's benefits everyone and is a great alternative to financial contributions. 3. Creating products or services to help service our cars is a great way to contribute to the community. Especially now that the AU vs USD is tanking local options are always better than having to import. I was in contact with a business today looking to reproduce panels/sections - hopefully they will sign up soon and ask for feedback on new rust repair sections? But things like this really make restoration easier. By the way I noticed 4 new donations after your post Peter, so thanks for kicking this off. I don't like to ask for donations, but I have noticed that since the front page donation 'meter' was removed we started to get less donations and I was seeing the same people make regular contributions. Which is great, but I'd also like to see new donating members . Thankfully advertising does help make up for the months where donations trickle in.
  2. Maybe the speedo cable broke? Happens. As far as I'm aware there is no reason for there to be a difference between auto and manual speedo cables. However you could check by removing the cable from the gearbox and using a drill to spin it and see if you get any reading? This would confirm cable is ok still.
  3. How far away are you from producing these? I just bought something expensive, hence will need to check how many pay cheques between now and when you produce them . I can commit to 1 set, but pending the second at this stage.
  4. +1 for all black Watanabe's, I like black wheels on S30z's more and more these days.
  5. Looks like the big cover version there. Here's a couple of comparison photos.
  6. Clean looking 260z 2 seater in the US. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-Early-1974-260Z-/391116853325 Youtube video here: Lovely 302 colour.
  7. Do you want the BIG NISSAN cover or the smaller nissan cover? There is 2 versions of this cover. The BIG version is more rare.
  8. What are 50mm triple Solex carbs worth? http://page13.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/r126730789 > $7k AUD and not finished yet (1 day to go).
  9. @Hmd - I couldn't agree more, and I think S30z's will go that way also. Given just how many have been chopped, modified and not preserved in their original state. Thinking of the early Mazda rotaries I think we're gonna see a lot more cars going back to original spec, I can't think of the last time I saw a clean original R100 coupe in original shape for sale. Lots of big turbo 13B modified cars with large Simmons wheels and tubbed rear arches, but very few 60s looking original hubcap wearing R100s, RX2's, RX3's etc.. They are slowly making a comeback, which is pleasing to see (in my opinion). Last night I watched this video. Boom or Bust? What 2015 holds for the collector car market | Hagerty Seminar If you've got an hour and a half to watch the whole thing I recommend it. Some funny comments in there, they cover the Japanese equity bubble and how that impacted cars, how the Internet has changed things and a lot of shenanigans that went on in the past. They also discuss "the wealth effect" and how people were using equity in their homes to buy some exotic cars. I think in Australia the mining boom has helped people live a bit lavishly. It does make me wonder if our housing market pops what will happen to the "Aussie" classic cars of the period. Will there be a rapid decline in values for a short period, possibly followed by a recovery a few years later? I guess 1 interesting thing about owning an S30z is that it at least has Global appeal, where as the Aussie muscle cars may be less popular outside of Australia. Although in the US they seem to like quite a few of our cars.
  10. FYI: Discussions pertaining to wheels and CAMS eligibility have been moved on to this thread. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15882.0.html
  11. Panel gaps look awesome. Coming from someone who has been fiddling with the door gaps on my own 240z recently.
  12. Yeah I'll take some responsibility for that, let me split this topic into 2 threads. Just gotta sit down and decide which posts to move etc.. *Edit- original thread discussing Works Rally S30z's in Australia is here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15844.0.html
  13. You might be able to modify the Bad Dog version to resemble the OEM ones? It looks like the OEM ones have a couple more pressings in them? Certainly would make a good starting point.
  14. Well.... maybe not. I believe the 432-Rs (PS30-SB) cars were fitted with Kobe Seiko wheels or at least had the option? As to what sizes I don't know? But... I'm lead to believe from what I have researched that the 432-R was not available to the public directly, rather it was available to privateers? Not joe public.. I don't know if that is where the rules get rubbery or not? A few reference photos of PS30-SBs (not sure if Genuine) but look legit. I can hear the right click save as... from here. This car looks like it could be a mockup..wheels look more narrow spec. and since it seems relevant to ask here, I noticed that the Ikeda Bussan seats seem to come in a variety of trims. This looks re-trimmed. A blue colour? Kevin Bristow's Works 240z (ref: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/car-article/King+of+the+RAC+_+Datsun+240Z+rally+car+restoration-55346.xhtml) It has more of that 'office furniture look' than the other examples above. This is another reason I'm curious to see more photos of TKS 33 SU 4080 at the time, particularly the interior. Of course, that's just 1 detail that interests me. But I came across those photos whilst pulling out the 432-R stuff.
  15. If you go back to the links I posted where Alan has commented on these wheels before on Classiczcars.com he mentioned that the KS Rally wheel was not available to the public. Fully quote below. So it looks like you're out of luck on that...
  16. Good work and awesome update, huh, who'd have thought picking up the phone would be any use hey? Hopefully we will get to see some photos? Don't want to know what they are worth........
  17. No rubber seal underneath where the cowl meets the firewall, but before that is a foam padding where it sits on top of the scuttle / frame bit. I can take a photo if you want? but I'd imagine Clarke rubber would be your best bet for a replacement piece. I can also imagine it probably held moisture and didn't help with rust, although the scuttle panels don't seem to rust that bad compared to other areas.
  18. Bad Dog Parts.. http://baddogparts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_4&products_id=5
  19. Fixed your quote HKS so it reads better. @Alan - the heated screen is interesting, is that the vertical line you can just faintly see in the photo?
  20. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2015/01/05/five-car-hobby-predictions-for-2015/ FWIW I don't see Air Cooled 911s continuing to go up in value at the rate he predicts. I think they will top out, only so much car you get for the money but I'm happy to be wrong. Sadly no mention of the S30z in the blurb, but that's ok with me. I've got another ace up my sleeve. If you like reading comments there is a few discussions of the 240z from some people after the main article. Look for John and Kurt.
  21. The rust won't get much worse if it's in storage, rust takes time to develop if you're not planning on leaving it a few years it is fine to do nothing. That last photo looks like some kind of fire extinguisher holder, not a standard part.
  22. Whilst my treasury department isn't as bad as Joe Hockey, I'd like to know a rough cost for same parts also?
  23. Believe flares are being fitted and the lip is probably a guide point for fitting them, rather than just hacking up the guards and leaving a rough edge.
  24. Yep me too, I really think this thread would be even more awesome with more photos of these cars at the time. Kobe Seiko wheels.. I believe the 432s were fitted with this 'style' of wheel. However there is quite a few subtle differences between the wheels used on the Rally cars and the 432s and I believe (open to correction from Alan) that the rally or works cars had a wider version of this wheel also. *Edit to quote Alan... More info on them here (I think the only way to get them now is buy replica's which are seldom produced). http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/42525-rallye-wheels-ebay/ Portuguese market S30z's (which were HLS30 prefixed) were sold new with them for whatever reason - perhaps to appear more upmarket to that market? http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/50893-beautiful-expensive-240z-in-portugal/ http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/30372-real-fairlady-z432-magnesium-wheels/ On this 'mockup' 432-R you can see them also. (likely copies) http://www.7tune.com/blog/feature-fairlady-zed-432r
  25. Oil temp or pressure? You can buy brand new oil pressure sensors off eBay. Not worth buying second hand.
