  1. Yeah sorry I didn't notice because I was signed into my GoogleDrive when I shared them so it looked like it was working. I'll re-post again. He told me that the reason there was 2 that looked the same is that a factory in Ringwood was producing them at 1 point and they built a couple that looked exactly the same.
  2. I'm guessing your S30z is a 73 model? Looks like that support is toasted.
  3. You keep picking on cars I like haha. I don't mind the wagon, but I do prefer the original shape of the coupe. My dad had 2 before I was born, there is a chance I was conceived in the back of 1, but it's not a topic I'd like to ask my mum about . I quite liked the introspective view this guy has about classic cars, can definitely relate to what he was saying about that hand made element of stuff compared with say an iPhone which appears to have been made by aliens . /Sorry gone off topic again.
  4. To this point... I'm lead to believe that other parts on the car have a date stamp and to convert to Western Dates you need to know the date of the emperor's reign. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_era_name http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_era_names Emperor Shōwa, 1926–1989 If you look at the clock out of my 1970 240z, it has the stamped code 0096. 96-26 = 70 or 1970. However that doesn't seem to work for the other clocks.... But I'm guessing that maybe Jeco started using a date that also referenced the calendar month. Car parts are often stamped with a letter to indicate month of manufacture, the J is often used instead of I because I can look like a 1. Examples A=Jan B=Feb C=Mar D=Apr E=May F=Jun G=Jul H=Aug I=Skipped due to looking like 1 J=Sep .... The reason we (Ron and I) believe it's a date stamp is that my 72 240z clock had a very close number to another 72 240z clock Ron had.
  5. It's labour cost + core cost really, and the fact that Ron has certain tooling to reproduce busted bezels, repaint dial faces etc.. The other day I saw a Jeco clock (early S30z) on Yahoo! Auctions sell for close to $100 AU. To be honest I was a little surprised, but then I realised. #1. How often do people sell them here in Australia? There are none on eBay AU right now for example. #2. Have you seen the prices on eBay US? Examples below. a. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-Clock-/221755043806 (used = $60 AU before shipping) b. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-260Z-280Z-Quartz-Clock-74-78-Stunning-OEM-Restored-240Z-/251935504637 (Restored 260z over $300 AU) c. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1970-71-72-73-Datsun-240z-OEM-clock-gauge-/321739356944 (buy it now $100 USD) d. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-Clock-w-QUARTZ-Movement-70-73-OEM-Restored-/291436508934 (restored buy it now $375 AU) Only reason I'm able to offer these at this price is because I had 4 spare (2 from my own cars and 2 in spare dashboards). I'm sure the eBay prices are a little on the high side, I've seen a few sell for $30-$40 USD but then you gotta ship them etc... It's hard to find them locally at the moment. So if anyone has a bunch stashed away let me know?
  6. Why did he tell you not to come back? Too much hassle?
  7. No problem will send to Perth no issues. I'll reply to your PM later tonight with details.
  8. No it's not a misprint, I have had 4 clocks restored recently by Ron in the US and these will work! I'm currently listing 2 for sale, with a possible third available depending on demand. I'm willing to discount price if you send me back your original clock (-$40 from price below for core exchange*). Of course it must be in rebuildable condition. Ideally no cracked bezel or lens etc.. As you can see from the photos there is no difference on the visible side of the clock. The clock on the far right is out of HS30 00150 (Labelled OEM clock) which I've left 'original' in terms of mechanism etc.. You can see the adjustment fast/slow knob on the rear of this clock. The other 3 have had the original mechanics replaced with a Quartz movement and have no adjustment. You can see we preserved the numerical code on the rear of the clocks, which we believe is a date code of manufacture although I haven't been able to fully decipher these as of yet. Price: $300 each. There is a small profit in there for myself, to factor in my time, sourcing the parts, organising shipping, dealing with foreign currency exchange. You may be able to rebuild yours or send it yourself and save a small amount of money, but then you'll have an empty hole in your dash and have to wait a few weeks. This way you can swap it out and have a working clock again in no time! If this works well I may send off multiple clocks for rebuilding at a time along with other items like indicator stalks, dashboards for reskin etc.. So you could say this is a test run of this concept/group buy sort of arrangement. *Core refund is for 240z Jeco clocks, but if there is enough demand for 260z clocks let me know?
  9. There has been a few reports of carpet kits and distributors being useless... Sounds like a gap in the market for a good quality offering.
  10. I've no idea what that is to be honest, kinda looks out of place along with the rear strut bar and gauges in the din pocket. On an otherwise original / period correct example.
  11. Sadly cancelled this semester due to lack of numbers only had 6 need at least 10.
  12. It would be good to see who in Sydney made them for Adam, since they may have the template to make them again.
  13. Not everyone has good taste , no in fairness you're entitled to your opinion. I think they are cool but I understand it may not appeal to everyone. Just like the HQ Monaro or LJ Torana, I've just never seen the appeal in terms of aesthetics but obviously some do. I do still appreciate seeing 1 on the road and I do kinda like the LJ if I'm honest especially the XU-1 GTR, I just find it's shape a bit odd. I do wish they made the Holden Torana GTR-X though, I think they were onto something with that. PS: 20K for a 240K Coupe GTR clone is good buying... If you knew what they were selling for in Japan you'd have a heart attack. /End off topic diatribe
  14. This car is back. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,15640.msg167173.html#msg167173 Fairlady Z-L http://page4.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/d166391717 Photos the same as last time.
  15. This is back on again tonight (cancelled last week due to Sydney storms). Not sure if there is any space remaining.
  16. Hi Rev, I think my 1970 240z has it's original carpets! I will double-check and take photos when I get a chance, but I find that most aftermarket ones don't have the luggage strap cut outs and there are a few other small differences like around the drivers side dead stop pedal etc... It would be good to get a decent set of reproductions made. Like I say I'll need to double-check and get back to you on that though.
  17. 1973 Fairlady 240zg It's going to auction soon. I don't know if it's a legit HS30-H it certainly looks like it, not sure what it will fetch maybe $80K? If it's as good as it looks in photos that is.
  18. Don't you hate that? I console myself with the fact that they are probably not as good as they look in the ad. I've also noticed a decline in Datsun's for sale on Carsales in general, not just S30z's, but 1200's, 120Y's, 200B's, Fairlady Roadsters, 510's etc..I think they are just getting harder to find now. The rarest of the rare in my opinion is the 240K coupe. Seems a lot of pent up demand and not many cars around.
  19. +1, what sort of pricing are we looking at?
  20. Weird... my guess the car had a front ender and was bent, it was kinked in that location perhaps and then possibly rusted there? It's not a normal area to see it. I would probably get it on a chassis jig to make sure it's straight, you could probably get a look inside the rails to determine how rotten they are inside. I'm looking at rust converters and primers like KYB rust seal, rust bullet, POR-15 etc.. I'm also looking at devices that allow you to spray into areas like this that are not normally accessible. In terms of thickness get a set of vernier calipers to stick in that hole and measure the width of the steel that way. If the car is 'true' and no major rot in the rails, then a patch should be just fine.
  21. The S30z's that have been for sale lately have all been projects / shells / rust work. Generally Carsales appeals to finished cars I'd say. That probably has a big part to do with it. Also Gumtree is free....
  22. Good work it's awesome you're giving it a go, when I was your age (geez that makes me sound old) I was too scared to give it a go. Not sunroof repair but battery tray rot and welding in general.
  23. Ross got an email today.
  24. What could possibly go wrong eh? Mr C. Sounds like most S30z's out there on the market at the moment haha.
  25. Did you use a MIG welder? Looks like the kind of warpage you get from too much heat. If I understand what Peter is saying, is that you want to use a block of wood to spread the impact out over a larger area. Not an isolated area with a hammer as it will stretch the metal and lead to other sorts of issues. Good on you for giving it a go, I'm still a bit nervous about trying until I'm more confident in my Oxy welding or Tig welding skills. I do have a spare turret as a just in case. Where did you source your patch piece? Did you roll it up on your own?
