  1. Supercharger kit anyone? https://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1436548589&member_hash=7c982e0bdc2fcbd8c2c27bdf1cc436f59983e2800dd44aad89&tm=email&et=46&mt=7F1F0D31-C106-4483-BC9A-C7464ADF110F
  2. 90a or P90a? I've never heard of a 90a before. If it's a P90a then yes they had hydraulic lifters but apparently they can go bad and you can replace them with the older style lifters relatively easily I believe. As for suggestions on the engine, have you read this thread yet? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1738-l26-refresh-thought-id-share-the-results/ I like it because it's very methodical in it's approach, but yields excellent results and drivability. It shouldn't break the bank.
  3. With the heat shrinking it looked like you put quite a bit of heat into the panel, you don't need to add a lot of heat, it's literally on for a couple of seconds and then off again. Better to do lots of small heat shrinks than big ones! Good that it seems to have fixed it for you though all the same. Not much you can do about the surface rust under the skin of the bonnet, when you cannot access that area. You could try dipping the panel and converting rust that way, but if you're going to use fish oil make sure you do it after you're finished painting (not before) as it can lead to "fish eyes" in the paint etc.. By the way is the motor head a P90a? I'll bet it had compression but you need to work on your guns and turn the motor with more effort . It probably would have run ok, but worth re-lapping valves etc.. cleaning it up from all that carbon build up and doing something about the camshaft. It's probably sat for many years like that.
  4. What's that saying, if at first you don't succeed? Anyway finally put it back together correctly with the top slat in place. The brackets don't quite line up, not sure if it's the grille yet or the car. It's possible it may have been tweaked with the bonnet got nudged and so the brackets may be just out of alignment on the car. Anyway I'll figure that out a bit later. The main thing for now is that it looks relatively straight now and the new posts I made seem stronger than OEM which obviously break at the lower mounting points. Will need to sandblast it and paint it, but I'll probably try and do a few more minor adjustments to straight a few areas out. The spare slats helped but very few were actually perfect.
  5. Thanks mate, but it's already in the post. Turns out postage within the US was only marginally cheaper than to Sydney so it's getting sent direct here.
  6. Bump want to keep this on everyone's mind and radar.
  7. Oh goodie I'm hoping it's a sticker with his yellow 240ZG in the background and the slogan "I removed those stinking Fairlady Z badges myself."
  8. Have you compression tested? Leak down test? Did you resurface the block at any stage?
  9. Might be creating unnecessary work for yourself, the good news is you can still find running L-series relatively cheaply. If it has a P90a cylinder head it's worth keeping. They are getting more difficult to find and were always regarded as 1 of the better heads from factory (provided they have higher comp).
  10. This information pertains to HLS30's. Posted originally by Phil Ray here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/121977164809467/535358156804697/ Shows how rare certain combinations are, Blue on Blue being 1 of the rarest. Now I want that combo even more. Color Combinations.pdf
  11. Nah, I quite like the big "DATSUN" on the bonnet. Just like I prefer the '240z' rear 1/4 emblems on the early cars vs the Z on the quarter panels. But I'm sure the Z's look appropriate on those Nissan's you own.
  12. By the way Curtis when you saw HS30 00103 did it have a Nissan 2400 OHC cover on the engine? Fabio was going to check but I didn't end up hearing back from him. Still curious when our cut off point is for HS30's.
  13. Might be able to see it just here. https://petrolicious.com/articles/this-nissan-fairlady-240z-l-is-a-rare-japanese-survivor
  14. Thanks will keep an eye on that. But I found a good grille in the US of A for $100 USD just the cost of shipping it is a killer. Getting harder to find these undamaged!
  15. I was going to say same, but Alan beat me to it. Yes I'd expect it to have an L20A in it, and I can't tell for sure but it looks sans Rally Clock so I am guessing it's a Fairlady Z-S. Price is difficult to say for certain since I think it will appeal to UK, Japan, Australian markets. I know what I think it's worth, just not sure if others see the same value in it. Rare in that colour also!
  16. Is this the 1 that was with the other early car? HS30 00103? Looks rough and ready but original. Edit* Just checked and yes it is, Fabio's old car.
  17. I'm missing 1 grille slat, the top 1. Have to pull it all apart again and redo it. *sigh*.
  18. Fairlady Z for sale in the US of A. http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/58665-1972-fairlady-z-value/
  19. Damn just the size I want and I've got some Topy's lol.. these would fit on the rear without fouling on struts I'm pretty certain.
  20. So anyone want to point out a mistake I made on the grille. I realised after I posted it.
  21. So a little while ago I posted an ad looking for a straight grille... not much chance of that these days... http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16524-very-straight-front-grille-slated-type/ So the old grille has broken legs and some bent slats, I managed to fix a few of them, but the rest were pretty crooked and as they are really thin metal it's almost impossible to beat them into shape again. Alan came to the rescue with some spares but finding a good set of slats that worked together was still hard, you'll notice the top 3 are the same length (long) and the bottom 3 (short). In the end I had to re-drill a set to get them to work correctly. So I spent ages marking and measuring the right place to cut these then discovered my scribe marks were not correct when compared with an original.. So I found it easier to put an original next to it and just cut in the same position and same angle. A hacksaw isn't the easies tool to use and I recently bought a dremel tool which with a cut off wheel probably would have been better, but hindsight and all that. I then riveted (had to buy a rivet gun but they are cheap at $25 for a kit). and after much mucking about... I had what appears to be a relatively straight grille again.. It has a couple of minor imperfections, which I may try and straighten out, but it's pretty good I think. (I'll have to test fit it also). Other update is I found a Nissan 2400 OHC cover at the right price. So just waiting on it to be posted out now! Even though my car didn't have 1 (technically just missed out) I still think it will look at home in an early 240z engine bay. Just gotta get the old black paint off and find out what's hidden under it. And the smallest update is I found an original rear speaker bracket and speaker (although it's not an hitachi speaker so not sure it's 100% original?) but if it isn't then it doesn't matter, but if I can find an original speaker I'll probably get the cone re-done. It's the small details.
  22. Try Yahoo! Auctions japan there is a few rebuild kits on there.
  23. http://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/motoring/500000-ford-falcon-gtho-phase-iii-heads-15-million-luxury-car-auction/news-story/dc8a0871e86e348a063620179f90ab1e First they ruined global housing markets, now their gonna ruin the classic car market.
  24. That bonnet was a reproduction unit, not an NOS 1. So not sure how fitment is yet. I considered buying 1 but waiting on another I sourced in Japan to arrive, which I believe was a genuine NOS bonnet. Still waiting for freight company to contact me.
