Home Built Z 'full Video Build'
gav240z replied to HomeBuiltByJeff's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Bit of a moot point now, but I was looking at the "BRE" version of this rear wing that they offer. http://www.bre2.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=B&Product_Code=020B03&Category_Code=bre_datsun_body_parts But I was looking for a vertical "rib" spoiler (which is the early Z432-R spoiler) and wanted something that was high quality with appropriate mounting points etc.. Alternative version here: http://www.bre2.net/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=B&Product_Code=020b06&Category_Code=bre_datsun_body_parts However even though they insist they are good quality I have still not ordered 1. I am thinking of going guinea pig and ordering 1, then maybe bringing in a bunch as I'm sure there is demand for a quality unit here. -

That's Warren Potter and funny enough he is being discussed at length here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/16965-warren-waste-of-time-potter-all-z-parts/ My guess is that they are Tabco imports.

They will just think it's some 1980s whale tail like Porsche, won't even look twice. I'd be more worried about ZG flares with the rivets -

50mm OER carbs (half price of Mikuni's) https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/t555601796 I don't think OER is making them anymore? Valve Cover almost looks LY-ish... -
Can you imagine how upset I was when I bought this item and I didn't get the box? It even had the Rally Clock part no. on it. Funny thing is it was presented as NOS but when I got it, it wasn't working.. Had to restore it. Go figure..but yes I love the NOS boxes too!

Mazda RX-2 Coupe https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Mazda-Capella-RX-2-1973/SSE-AD-5274904/ $35,000 I suspect if it was RHD the price would be at least $15k higher!

That's how I work with all my S30Z's and FD RX-7 anyway... for example right now I'm doing a brake rebuild on my FD RX-7, however I am rebuilding a spare set of calipers off the car, so the car is not immobile. With the 240z's I order bits in and know there will always be a wait.

That can't happen, the bankers fixed everything so that we can never see that kind of crash happen again. All that Dodd Frank regulation is Iron clad! But on a serious note, if you buy classic cars using leverage then I guess you'll be forced to sell. But if you buy it with cash outright and hold you'll be fine. Like any asset class I suppose it's the margin call that gets you, or in the case of the mega mortgaged chumps it's that negative equity that kills ya. You can't eat / live in a bitcoin, or gold, (can't eat a house) etc.. But I take your point. I just prefer physical assets.

Interesting how heated this has become, as I stated earlier everything I've ordered via Warren on eBay has arrived promptly and in Nissan OEM packaging. No complaints. I've heard others have had to wait a long time. I think this is just part of dealing with S30Z's in this country, you've got to be a bit resourceful and willing to work a bit harder to get parts than say with a newer car. I personally try to avoid buying items on eBay from the US due to the hideous shipping costs. That's why I have a point of contact in the US to ship items to, I've been lucky in that my work has taken me to the West Coast a few times now and I've collected them and brought them back in my suitcase. I definitely think there is a gap in the market here for a supplier, but there is challenges with that and I honestly think you would find it hard to survive as a full time business. I've tried to grab parts from the US at a good price to sell here at times, and often I get 1 or 2 comments of how expensive they are.. some parts are still sitting there. I refuse to give them away. I think I've got more Rally Clocks than fingers now, I guess not everyone see's the value in certain parts the way I do. Fair enough. But imagine having half a mil worth of inventory sitting there and trying to flog it off for profit? Most wouldn't bother and would have sold up years ago. Much easier ways of making money. I've often wondered how Phil's Rotary's has done it, they reproduce loads of early rotary car parts that are NLA or mega expensive. Much harder to find parts for those cars than S30Z's I'd imagine.

Fairlady S30Z just went to auctions at Shannons and got to $45k. https://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/2018-shannons-melbourne-late-summer-classic-auction/UC8AKA6P68945VC0/ I consider it not bad, given it's custom modifications, the fact that most of Joe Public has no idea what a Fairlady Z vs 240z is and the fact that you'll still want to fix a few things on it. Frank originally wanted to get close to $45k for it, so it's good to see it got that at auction! Although the buyer has to pay an auction fee and probably Frank also. I'm glad it went over $40k, at anything around mid 30's I would have been tempted.

I'm glad they are undervalued, it's allowed me to collect 4 of them. I might have to add a few more.

I keep hoping for a cheap version of the book to show up, but haven't found a copy yet! Last I checked it was $250-$300 USD used..

Where do I even begin? ? Maybe you'll get an idea of how many differences there were here. http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/236658-1969-nissan-s20-twin-cam-engine-rebuild-4.html#/topics/236658

Rare spares for the slam panel for the hatch. Tabco in the US for the dog legs. Or fabricate yourself locally. Best options.

All depends on the variant... PS30-SB seems to be in the big boys club now..as is the PS30. I think HLS30's and HS30's are still too cheap, should be pulling at least $150k for good restored cars in my humble opinion! But happy for them to stay a bit cheaper for longer lol..

Water jet blasting sort of shot peens the surface so it's more resistant to oil impregnation etc.. So basically it cleans the surface nicely and then makes it more resilient against oil stains in future. Not sure about oxidation... God I wish you didn't sell those 50's Lurcho's!
