  1. Nice looking car from the pictures. Sub 1000kg for a road car will be ambitious. My race Zed was 980kg ready to race without me in it and it went on a fairly strict diet so the driver didn't have to. I could have got the car down to maybe 970kg by going a fibreglass hatch, and another couple of kg in wiring, but then it was that ever diminishing return for more effort. Sub 1100kg would be doable for liveable street car and will still give spritely performance from the L28. If you want to go to a bit bigger in capacity I have a set of the longer "stroker" rods and can get details of the pistons that were in my car. Final capacity will depend on how big an overbore you want to go. The old Mitsubishi pistons i had in my race motor are no longer available but a set of equivalent pistons made to suit wasn't too bad in price. And which branch of te free car mat fitting store do you work in, I wish to have you stare blankly at me as the computer says no when i try to get an oil filter or other service parts for my old euro shitter

I don't think Ferrari's like this are in a bubble. I think there will always be demand at the top end. However I love the story. Thought this was the best place for sharing it. https://www.drive.com.au/motor-news/-2000-piece-of-junk-tipped-to-sell-for-10-million-119183

  3. So i"ve got my radiator sorted I went with the HZ V8 rad that was suggested by @dat2kman It's a brass 'Auto Rad' 618 core. It's a big core and very snug fit between the rails. Only 3 or 4mm clearance. The side bands had to get the bottom trimmed off them and the bottom of them sits on the top of the chassis rails. Very pleased with it. On the RB25 both pipes are on the drivers side. I was going to have the bottom pipe on the passenger side and use an external pipe to cross it back. The guy doing it had a better way and the top pipe has a 90 degree bend inside it to direct the water to the passenger side so it should work similar to if the pipes were on opposite sides. The rad is a bit taller and will sit lower so I got the bottom fitting pointed up. It ended up costing me $700. Close now to getting my engine started up.

I've been working on my 1600's so haven't made a lot of progress on the Z but here's a few things I've done. S13 booster, 15/16th master: Patch for the notch taken out of the rail by the previous owner: Then I had another right place at the right time moment. I found a couple of old school lockers on stalkbook and when I went to pick them up the lady was clearing out her dad's garage. I resisted the urge to look at any other stuff she had as I already have enough crap in my shed. Anyway, she had to go inside to get me some change for the lockers so I couldn't resist asking if I could have a quick look around. I go to the first box on the ground and here is a washer bottle with "Kanto Seiki" on it. Being new to the Z game I thought it may be Datsun but could be from any Jap car. I asked if her dad ever had a Datsun to which she said no and there were no other Jap parts in the Garage. So I get in the car and get on the googles for "Kanto Seiki washer bottle" and I'm like, you have got to be kidding me. On the way home I'm thinking there might be a washer bottle in the bulk parts lot I got and sure enough.... So then I'm like, ok, so which is the 240 one? I try to fit the big one I already had but with the S13 booster, no good. Small one I just found, sweeet!

That was just a little rub staying on line, no malice at all. Whilst I never intentionally hit anyone, and the same with those I was driving around, I was always surprised when a meeting finished and there wasn't a mark on the car. Just wait until you get logbooked to fix up the dents. The car only has to look good from 20 feet away. Mine wasn't the prettiest in terms of panels, but the dark colour and the white diamonds hid a multitude of sins. Oh and when you do do the freshen up, steel guards can be legally made lighter than fibreglass guards...... A bath and some acid is your friend. My guards ended up so thin they had dents from the little bits of gravel being flung up off the tyres, and you couldn't lean on them without denting them, luckily it was pretty easy to push them back into shape. Just had to make sure nobody lent on them.

Advance maybe one of your problems. Have a look at the advance plate under the points. The carrier that holds the ball bearings is usually gone and hence no advance. There should be three ball bearings at the end of the plastic arms. I remade mine in aluminium to fix the advance.

  10. Rear valance for 240Z The Z car depot now sells reproduction rear valance sections for US$189. They don't seem to be able to ship it to Australia though. "Rear valance sheet metal for under the rear bumper. This part is designed for Datsun 240Z, 1970-72 because of the larger exhaust" cut out and bumper bolt location. It can be made to work on 260Z and 280Z, however trimming of the ends may be required"

Knocked up a bit of a movable shelf to get the Z parts a bit more organised and off the floor and moved one of my 1600 shells out for a bit more room. I think my daughter is liking the Z more than the 1600s. Going to make a couple of aluminium removable panels to cover the hacking. I'll be keeping the luggage strap mounting holes and drilling through the aluminium to attach the strap mounts. I might end up hiding 6x9s under the panels. I'll probably do nutserts with stainless button heads.

  12. You cannot tell from the video or probably unless you are standing next to it, but as Gav said it is set up like a FJ24. On reflection a more correct comment would have probably been it is a replica. The chances of it actually being an original FJ24 are fairly slim.it actually has a rocker cover from a later model FJ fitted. I navigated in a Sylvia (Gazel) during the early 1990's and we ran an original FJ24 along with lots of other works parts. It was a belter of a car but like a lot of those cars was well stressed and alas we broke a few motors. All of the parts came from Reg Cook in New Zealand who had links with Nissan in Japan.
