Hi ausZcar members,

I'm an Adelaide boy hoping to get into Zeds, the search is going quite slowly as I'm looking for a 2 seater to use as a daily. Going to be selling my integra to fund the project, and im on a students budget ($7k to get the car). Yes I know its wishful thinking but hey you gotta dream right? Hope to chat with some of you guys and get whatever advice I can, for both the search & restoring the 'dream' (yes it is strange quoting yourself  ;D).

Thanks Sirpent, you guys have a really active forum here, im surprised my post got a reply already & 22 views!

Hi Zzzzed, how have you found the SA zed scene? Any local clubs?

G'day and welcome.  I do hope those nearest and dearest are ready for the obsessive behaviour you are about to display.  Don't be surpirsed when they start moving grog and sharp objects away from you and you'll notice they will whisper alot and stop talking when you walk into the room.

When all these things are happening, just smile 'cause you know that you belong here.  :-*

Thanks zedman, I like the sound of that, coz my thrice daily searches of carsales, drive & trading post are making me a little OCDish, maybe I should relax a little and see what may come.

@maygz - no sharp objects will make the build very difficult, i dunno how you guys have managed  ;)

@zzzzed - I said my hellos over there a few days ago. I saw that that forum wz based in adelaide which is awsum, I'll keep my eyes peeled for meets but I'll be the zedless horseman unless I find something before then  :(

Hey guys! Not zedless anymore  ;D

bought a '71 240z for $6k lastnyt. Came up on drive.com.au yesterday & went 2 see it yesterday evening. Has been sitting 10yrs & isnt going, rust all over & a very large section is lifting around the lock on the hatch. Has 52000miles on a reconditioned engine, but will have to come out & be pulled apart before she runs.

Thanks Lurch, yes it does look like it'll need some work before its on the road. Main priority is to get this car running well, body work that isn't urgent (unlike the hatch, not shown in the drive pictures) will be held off on until i finish uni and get a real job

Couldn't see all that well from the pictures....

but if it has rust issues sort them before anything...(if more than surface).

Slowing/stopping the rot should come first.

It is do-able while at uni....finished mine in second/third year (took a while but....). Solid/straight/clean frame lets you do whatever you want engine/interior wise without having to pull it all apart again in 5 years.

Thanks guys, encouraging to hear that it can be done while studying.

Now where the hell do i start?!

Engine is coming out within the next couple weeks, battery will need replacing, tyres will need changing...what else should i consider after a car has been sitting as long as this?

I'm always tempted to get a car running if it's in a similar state to yours but i would suggest get out the camera, take some pics and post them up. There's a wealth of Knowledge here and people can suggest better if they have a better idea of her condition. Suggest being the key word. Anyways welcome and Happy Trails.

Dan Im also a uni student and its not that hard to work on it while you're studying, its not hard. I actually have less time since I have to go to mine sites most of the year for my study. I guess you can check the compression on the cylinders and see what state shes in, a good compression test means the engine will run efficiently, clean and start easily. As per rule there shouldnt be more than 10% different between cylinders.

You should get yourself a Haynes manual, I got one and I think its worth every penny. GL

Im goin ovr 2 get all the paperwork sorted this morn, so will go crazy with the camera.

Iv got the haynes, the monroe & the humble books, needed instant gratification when I didnt have the car.

Im a med student & uni for me has been alot more intense than my previous undergraduate degree, I miss the days where my uni life was 3-4 half days a week :D ...should have started back then.

If im gonna be asking alot more technical how-to type questions should I start a new thread elsewhere?
