NDN 09 Sushi's Story

Ok so I've finally gotten around to uploading this. I will update over the coming days with more info and links to bigger pics etc...

Day 1....

...was a slow start having been up until 2:30 cleaning and packing the car the night before. It was dark for 9am, too dark. I opened the garage door and sure enough it was pouring down rain.

Luckily by the time Steve arrived at my house the storm was somewhere up past Cairns (yes he was a little late )

We fuelled up at Indooropilly and began our pilgrimidge to Warwick. We were only on the highway for about 10mins when we came across Wilbur in his rb powered 260z and his wife in a more traditional 260z. They were going a little bit too slow for our liking (which is something you would rarely say about Wilbur's driving) so we powered on. The drive was quite relaxing and we took it fairly steady most of the way (both Steve-o's and mine's speedo wasn't working and we weren't keen on a ticket). Wilbur and his wife eventually caught up and we drove in mini convoy until reaching Warwick.

We arrived relatively late to the registration but there were still a few zeds around the streets so naturally the camera came out.

After we received a quick feed and our bag of datsun goodies (shirts, caps etc) we thought we would go check in. We thought we would use the afternoon to give the cars another wipe down and do a bit more detaling before the show on Saturday. Steve's car was parked infront of some burly bikers that were staying across from our room and it wasn't long before he was getting cleaning advice from the boys. They were actually a really nice bunch and knew what they were talking about from years of cleaning and polishing bikes. However, the clouds overhead were growing ever more worrisome and we were beginning to think that all of this cleaning was going to end up being a waste of time. We considered going to Supercheap to purchase some car covers but thought a hunt for an open bottleshop might be a more constructive use of time. Being good Friday our quest didn't end well so it was down to leftover Smirnoff blacks and Jagermeister for me.

Steve thought he would have a little glass of milk and have his afternoon nap whilst the men gathered outside with some social lubricant and a bit of car talk .

Luckily Simon doesn't look anything like his Z

After everyone dispersed for dinner, Steve and I thought we could go take some photos seeing as though our cars were the cleanest they have probably ever been. We drove around for a while but only found a couple of good locations that were lit well enough to get an alright photo.

We ended the night by watching Zack & Miri Make a Porno which probably wasn't the smartest idea for two guys sharing a motel room as the whole movie sounds, well, like a porno.

Day 2....

...was another early start to do a bit more cleaning before the show and shine. Once the Z's were cleaner than an episode of the Brady Bunch, Steve and I took off for the show. We parked down the main strip with the majority of the other zeds, purchased a hearty breakfast (hotdogs with cheese) and began our tour of the show. I suppose this bit is best portrayed with pictures...

Then rain held out until the very end of the show, which I thought was very considerate. It did postpone the drags until Sunday however.

We met 2 dirty Frenchmen, Josepf and Michael, earlier in the day and thought we could go for a quick drive to pass the time. I let Josepf take the helm of Old Yella as we went to find a video shop. The rest of the day wasn't overly exciting (or Z related)... We ended up watching a movie and played some guitar hero until we thought it was late enough to go out and meet some, errr, locals.

This could have been a story in itself but in short, we sunk some booze and pool balls whilst Steve got acquainted with a fairlady (and not the Z variety).The night ended surprisingly late with Steve in bed with two seedy French men and not a fairlady in sight...

Grande effort guys, even more annoying that I had to cancel out of the Nats at the last minute due to work delegation committments, it is one event I always enjoy and I missed the home stay, I look forward to the continuing absolute thirst I have for more pics and the poetry on the event! Lynton

ok so my first post has reached the maximum characters for a post so here is day 3

Day 3....

...we got to the drags in time to see a couple of Z's getting flogged down the strip. For me, there is only so many times you can watch a pair of cars being driven in a straight line for 14 seconds so it wasn't long before we moseyed over to the track.

We got seated just as a heavily worked r34 and a new r35 started around the track. The r35 was fast but was very tame (quiet and poised) which didn't give the impression of speed like the r34 howling down the straight. We stuck around to see a handful of zeds do a few laps, the most impressive for me probably being Team McEvans (White with blue and red stripes), Wilbur's rbZ (silver with flares), a kitted out race car (blue red and white with the headlights filled in) and a very fast red with yellow stripe Z that ran with the skylines and a 180sx (sorry that's the only info I have).

We left the track and headed back towards Brisbane mid afternoon. The drive was quite relaxing and topped off what was an excellent weekend.

Let me guess. Canon full frame with some L series prime and some center and spot weighted light metering? I'd be guessing judging by the day ISO 800 at F5.6-8 maybe some at F11?

Thread resurrection indeed. However is anyone in contact with Simon Degroot? I reached out to him long ago about getting his build documented in our member rides section but it never materialised. Still love that car and would love to have it show cased on our site.

There is a DVD of the NDN09 event .It is about an hour long and covers most of the cars that were present at the event ,Simon's car included. It also includes some in car and out of car footage of many cars along with over 800 photos. The DVD has been presented to Nismo officials in Japan along with a DVD of LAPZ 2010 at Lakeside QLD. Dat2kman was the one who presented it ,so he would be able to shed more light on the what happened.They are not bad productions considering a 16 year old school girl with help from her younger brother produced them. But this may be just a proud Dad waving a flag moment.

She did a good job on the dvd, and the stills cd disc. As did the young fella!

I never heard back from Nismo or Nissan's Zama storage facility curator about these, but then again, they get plenty of stuff like this, and, are asked for stuff in return, which can be a bit difficult to do.

We bought them all some Aussie Flag motif printed thongs, from a $2 shop, here in Brissie, out of our own expense, they loved those, but we got their sizes wrong! Oh well, no matter grasshopper!
