  1. Was a very good day with just the right weather and the odd bit of entertainment at the traffic lights. Repco put up a prize for peoples choice . Also four trophies for class winners were awarded on the day. Sorry I wasn't able to follow covid rules to the letter but it was hot at the BBQ and a little hard to breath from time to time. We were also able to have the coffee man on deck along with the Logan district model railway club looking after bacon & egg burgers ,sang on bread and soft drinks for us. Good pics Peter.
  2. Repco in Moss street at Slacks Creek in Brisbane hold this type of event for car clubs on a regular basis . This Saturday will the ZCCQ yearly call up and they will be there from 8.00am till noon. If it is anything like pass shows at this venue some interesting cars should be on display.
  3. Attended a motorfest with the ZCCQ yesterday. Anything and everything was on hand at this event . Some were surprised to see triples side drafts fitted to cars other than Holdens and Chargers.
  4. Your expectations are realistic. Although your budget for a motor sent away on a pallet may be on the light side. Especially if you don't know what you want done to the engine.. There is a number of combinations of heads ,pistons ,rods, cams and cranks which will give good torque and drivability from around 2,200 to 5,500. This makes for a good road car . But a Zed that is good around town all the time is a bit of a myth. Especially in Brisbane in Summer. You need to talk to someone who has experience with the L-series engines and not just one point of view. We all have our favourite combinations and one is always better than another or so it would seem. We haven't had a get together for QLD AUSZCAR members for sometime now .If your time table is open on this project then at one of those meetings you could possibly gather the information or experience you are looking for. Christmas time can work for such a meeting.
  5. Alex need to decide how much you want to spend and how much you can do your self. Do you want a quick road car , a track day car or something that lives on a trailer. Mine is in between a quick road car and a track day car which I can drive to the shops if necessary. There are a number of owners around Brisbane and surrounding areas that have a large range power plants you could look over and go for a ride .But covid19 may be a problem at present. You just need to ask. .
  6. A very merry Christmas to you and your family Peter. That L28 seems to be coming along very nicely. Is Santa bring any more special parts for it? Take a drive past in the next few days a have a look at the Christmas lights out front.
  7. Perhaps you might want to put off your trip north till the start of April . That is when the Nationals will be on and if you have a load of parts to transport home you might be able to spread that among other South Aust entrants.Or better still enter the event. What better time to put it on track for the first time. There is an event which will be single car only in time attack form. Risk of damage will be very low.
  8. Well the Sup Regs have been accepted by CAMS for NDN15 speed (bent sprint or half circut time attack, sprints and regularity) events. All Nissan Datsun clubs have received invitations by now and there is even word that one NSW club will be sending 30 cars .There is no total fee for this event. You only pay for what you want to buy or enter. So to be at the display will only cost $15 if you don't want your car judged and that covers the whole weekend .
  9. That's what I asked for Jason and spoke to Neil about it . But the answer was No. There is nothing the club can do about it. If more people had let ZCCQ know they wished to do happylaps then it would have been a viable event. ZCCQ are watching their pennies as the NDN has a lot of up front expenses and cash flow is a problem. It's a big ask when no other club wishes to offer help in any form to organise that event. So they can't risk pennies on this event and it has to pay for itself. With any luck Richard they will have some cans left over from their breakfast the previous day or I will just have to make sure they do and bring them to Lakeside. We will need water as you take your life into your own hands drinking what comes out of the tap at lakeside .
  10. Well I tried . But QR would not allow track time without food as part of the program. So we are all forced to eat from the kiosk. Could be time to order pizza. So the day run on Saturday and if you want in on that the contact details are earlier in this thread. The display is Sunday morning from 9.00am at Lakeside Park on the infield. No cost to be part of this and I have no idea who may show up. The sprints have a past TARGA TAS winner, straight 6 ford powered Z ,RB26 powered Z ,a hand full running triples or all types ,370's and some Mazda RX7's that want to show up the early Z's. Makings of a good day . If you want first hand info on the NDN15. People will be on hand to talk about it
  11. Brave statement Peter and a phone number as well . You may be getting a number of calls next month and for a few more to come in the following months. But on a personal note this will be my last outing with the ZCCQ for a least a number of years . So after 30 years and being a founder of the club it will be hard to walk away .You tend to look at the Club as personal property. Don't like people messing with it. But the truth is I just cannot afford it any more. So here's hoping for a fine day and taking the car home the same way I drove it out . I will ask QR if we can do a few laps at lunch with out the food portion of the program. But I would not hold you're breath waiting for a yes from them.
  12. The ZCCQ executive made the decision to cancel the HAPPYLAPS segment of this event . This is due to lack of interest and cost to the club to run it under minimum numbers required .
  13. I six to choose from lee .You are welcome to come have a look if you want. some are 50 some are 100 wear rates . $15 EACH You should have a contact for me.
  14. Jason and Simon and others are on the right path .The products mentioned are some of the best . What they didn't tell you is you need to go to a good nut and bolt supplier or Blackwoods to get the taps you are after .You also only need hand taps as there are may different types . I would use a spiral tap ( looks a bit like a twist drill) as they will extract material and are good for chasing threads. You can never use to much trefolex and as you will be only be using your hands and not machine cutting, it will be safe . But Simon is correct and trefolex is carcinogenic which is why it is not used in thread cutting on lathes or the like. Be gentle with it . . There are may different methods of use in practice and broken taps are a bitch to remove I am sure there are enough trademen here to help you with any problems you may find.
  15. I am sorry ,but the ZCCQ can not make the entry procedure for ZCCQ club members or non club member any easier for the sprints. The decision for group entry is by invitation only and only one group. The Happylaps event is open to everyone and entry is by the ZCCQ web site . Which is in a earlier post .But with the dead line for happylaps entries only a few days out and this event with only a 1/3 full ,it will be cancelled. But to try and make more understandable to enter the sprints .Please read the following Entry Procedure Clicking on the Queensland Raceways web site address will take you to the sign in for entry forms. Type in your clubman licence number and pass word. Don't have a pass word. Click on don't have a pass word and it will take you through licence application or new pass word app. Then a new pass word will then be emailed to you. If you don't have a Queensland Raceways licence, then click on register here and follow the prompts for licence . Then you click on calendar and go to sprints. Go to 23 November and click entry. If you're one of Paul's fifteen go to group entry, if not standard entry and as of (01/09/2014) there are 45 places for standard entry. That may increase but that is at QR’s discretion. Stand entries are as per normal and must be paid to Queensland Raceways http://www.qldraceways.com.au/secure/members/login.php
  16. Could be a good chance to talk to the people who are organizing the Nissan Datsun Nationals for 2015 that weekend . I am sure they will be up for answering any questions you may have .It will be good to see you Jason ,will you be able to see us?
  17. Well this event is drawing ever closer now and we now have 15 cars for the group entry .That is 13 Z’s and 2 red RX7’s. Should be a interesting challenge. But if you would like to be part of the weekend events you can find details on the ZCCQ website. So If you think that you could be the only AUSZCAR member there ,you need to think again as all of the events planned for the weekend are being organized by AUSZCAR QLD members. The day run on the Saturday will only cost $2 per person ( told an navigator is not necessary but could help)and we will feed you for that . It may be only a sausage on bread with onions and bacon some sauce, more onions and perhaps an egg or cheese with more sauce. The display the next day (Sunday) at Lakeside is free and is just a park and talk fest. If you would like lunch that is a cost $35 per head and will be a full BBQ affair catered for by Queensland Raceways. To go with the lunch fee is a ½ hour of track time . Now this is a road event under road rules. It is just to give those an opportunity on a race track to see what all the hype is about. After that the sprinters will take to the track . If you would like to sprint with us there are still spots available on the day at $145 a car. http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/events/category/club-runs/
  18. You guys are going to love the Show & Shine segment of the Nissan Datsun Nationals for 2015 . Think 3 DAYS of Show and Shine. If you think you're going to be standing around bored , Think again. There will be more to do than you can poke a stick at . Yes you will have to move your cars around as some may have to go to competition events. But you can be there for as little (time) as you like or as long as you want. Datsuns are meant to be driven, not just looking at. You buy at Datsun especially a Z for one reason . To be seen in it: at speed or standing still it makes no difference. So Richard ,you bringing that V8 behemoth out on the 23 Nov for us to have a look at ?
  19. I am the first to admit. I am not sure how notice of car shows is circulated down South or out West. But the ZCCQ does get notices of these upcoming QLD events . The problem is it comes only a few days out from the event. It seems we are a last minute thought by the organizers . But us babyboomers need a little more notice than that, just to get out of bed. So as display days go , we concentrate on known event dates . Like the Jap shows held by the Mazda boys up here in February (classic) and June (all Jap) at Banyo. The next one for us will be on 23 November at Lakeside Raceway and is just a local lunch club thing with track time. Then in February 2015 and then the Nissan Datsun Nationals in Warwick at Easter 2015
  20. I heard Sexual Sushi will be there in an official roll taking photos over the weekend . Seems he has a lot of automotive photography work coming up.
  21. What is a fugazzi and why would it be with fairies? That's what's needed "pixie dust" . Get this thing off the ground or perhaps we are just not drinking enough red bull at the committee meetings to give it wings. Patience is a virtue or so I have heard . It takes time to get correct information together to be able to be issued out and when I have it, you guys will have it. No I am not in charge .I am just the mail man In the mean time enter the ZCCQ 30th celebration sprint(Lakeside) 23November .Sorry Group club entry is full but single entry at $145 per entry is still open and HAPPYLAPS at $35 per driver. No pressure Mp me if you want details.
  22. Gav, where is the incentive to get to you come and look for your self when we go round to spend the day with these cars.
  23. So Saturday the 22November will be a north side Navigation event starting with a breakfast and the run will go for about 4 hours up around , well some where around the north coast or Sunshine coast . What you do after that is up you . But the Sunday will start at Lakeside Raceway at 9.00am with a car display on the grassy knoll in front of the training building. This is to be followed by a HAPPYLAPS event which will include a BBQ lunch and 1/2 hour track time for $35 per person and you can take passengers with you. The Sprints will be in the afternoon from 12.30 to around 4.00pm. Now ZCCQ has a group of 15 cars running but the general ZCCQ membership has to enter the same way everyone else has to .Now full details will be at the ZCCQ website VERY SOON . Lee and Shaun will post up the posters for the event sometime soon and that will have links to the required entry forms as well. The sprint entry is $145 for (4) runs. Best not to wait if you want to join us at Lakeside for the sprints . Go to the QUEENSLAND RACEWAYS web site and enter .This is the last round of the championship so there will be plenty to see and do. Mp me if you plan to attend
  24. Seem we have a Z432 in South East Queensland and it is the latest addition to the ZCCQ . We didn’t ask what it cost, because we all know it would be in the arm and leg category. But going by the list of Nissan Datsun weaponry that this Z432 is in company with, I don’t think dollars was a problem. The conversation for value for investment was interesting as there seems to be a number of Jap classic collects here now. The question was asked : why not the AUST 70’s mussel car. It makes sense to Australians. But AUST 70’S cars doesn’t seem to have a worldwide market like Jap classics are gaining. After talking to James Flett and seeing what some Z are fetching .You have to start to ask the question. What is the best investment dollar for a Z ? Do we modify them to the point of changing them, that getting them back to road cars is impossible . Change to the point the mechanics is not recognizable as a Z car. Or just standard and or period modifications only. What is the best return for your dollar? No names Jason So with any luck we see it a some CLASSIC JAP SHOWS
  25. Just to give a heads up on this event . ZCCQ have made a group booking for themselves in the Sprint meet on 23November(Lakeside Park). So there will be a number of Z's there on the day. But there is no reason why forum members could form their own group booking if they wished to . The thing is you need at least 10 runners to break even. After that your entry fee comes down in price to a total of fifteens runners for a group(MAX) which is a saving of $45 per entry over standard entry. Now I am not sure if this is possible at this stage and ZCCQ can not do any more groups as they have a booking. It only makes sense if there are 15 or more from here or others forums that want to run. PM me if you have an interest in the day. FULL details on the weekend will be available this week.
