I find them too big and distracting - I probably have the unpopular POV though I've made them about 1/3 the size, so they are smaller than the member avatar's now and much more of an icon. On the plus side they are now about 1kb in size each. So tiny. OdinZ, 24 Dat and brent012 3 Quote
andyk_79 Posted June 25, 2018 Posted June 25, 2018 What is the criteria to be set as a donating member - I'm showing as a standard user but to be fair it's probably been a year since I last donated Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 25, 2018 Author Administrators Posted June 25, 2018 I think when I migrated to the new forum software I merged all donating members in with regular members and only since post migration have I started to add users to the donating members group. At some point I'm planning to set up donating members on a yearly subscription basis. So if you donate you get a year free of advertising etc.. I just haven't done it yet. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted June 26, 2018 Author Administrators Posted June 26, 2018 Updated first post. Unfortunately to restore the members avatars that were lost in the upgrade would require reverting back to the old database / version and applying a patch and then re-upgrading. At this stage we're too far down the rabbit hole to go back considering everything else is working well. So for those members who lost their avatars I'm sorry, you'll just have to pick a new 1 or re-upload your old 1 (I can help you find the old 1 if required?). Alternatively I'm trying to see if I can get a list of impacted members and fix the most active users avatars for them manually (not sure how big this list will be, it might be 10, 100, 1000).. 1 of the reasons I didn't do the upgrade right away was that I wanted the software provider to iron out the majority of bugs in the upgrade process before I went ahead, this goes to show, you can't always avoid all of them! What do you mean it won't accept your request? Also what is your ideal "unread content" view? The feature is pretty flexible and allows me to make quite a few changes. If there is a consensus view as to what members want to be able to see that the current settings don't allow, let me know? I've attached 2 images that show how I can customise this. Open to suggestions? Or I can create a new stream item that tries to emulate the old behavior, but in all honesty I've forgotten how the old 1 works exactly, so if you guys remember please let me know? Quote
dat2kman Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 Gav, where it says "time period" and the dot, "since last visit" i attemt to select that dot, but it wont accept that selection. as far as all the other chouces there,,,,, way to complicated! Quote

I assume you mean under "Create new stream" I just tried it also and it appears like some kind of bug. I will need to investigate that, as it was working before a minor patch I implemented recently and I'm getting no javascript errors when I try and select the options. So not sure what's going on there. I agree it's a bit overwhelming with all the options. It does however appear to be very flexible. I'll have to check and see if there is a way to configure it to behave like the older version as the default option and allow others to override it, I also think part of it will be just adjusting to how it works. I've got more comfortable with it after the upgrade, but it's still not perfect. Quote

It worked when I first migrated, but I applied a subsequent patch and I have a feeling that broke it! Quote

So I spoke to the software publishers and they told me unfortunately the selection problem is a known issue and will be addressed with an upcoming bug/fix release. No ETA yet on when it will be available. But I'll see what can be done about making changes to the default behavior. So in the short term kind of stuck. RAP260 and CBR Jeff 2 Quote

Took me ages because I’m not much chop with computer stuff. But once I worked it out is was simple (like most things in life). Jeff Ok. So how about this for folks who want to beat me to the punch. Step 1. Go to this spreadsheet. Step 2. You'll need to know your member ID. You can see this in the URL when you click on your own profile link. Using CBR Jeff as the example. You'll see his URL is: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/profile/103565-cbr-jeff/ The 103565 part of the URL is his member ID, your member ID will be different. Step 3. Looking in the spreadsheet find this number in column A Step 4. Now that you have your member ID, go to column C and click on the URL here. This will take you to the path of your avatar (this is where it was stored in the older 3.x version of the software). Step 5. To update your profile photo (avatar) go to your username in the top right hand corner and click on the down arrow. Step 6. Go to Profile, then on the far left click on the profile photo button. Step 7. You will need to save your old avatar to your desktop or similar (local drive). Step 8. Then upload the image again and save. NB: For some reason it won't allow you to specify a URL that is this site, so you have to download and re-upload the image. It's a little annoying... CBR Jeff 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 29, 2018 Author Administrators Posted June 29, 2018 As to why it matters? Usability is part of it, often I remember users based on their profile / avatar rather than username. However also when you go over very old threads you see old members (who may have gone away for a while) but sometimes they come back later and it can help with remembering who they were etc.. It's also nice to see the avatars next to each post. It's amazing how empty it feels without it. I could have written a script to go through and patch them all, but I figure if I do like 10-50 a day / week then I'll have it done eventually. Quote
