reverendzed Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 No - I was considering it but I just persevered, got a bit of a technique using a long screwdriver that seemed to work OK and then a light wire wheel and clean up with prepsol which removed any residue. Quote
oldmates260z Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 That looks like great preparation work for a quality outcome. Nice work. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 19, 2015 Administrators Posted February 19, 2015 I'm interested in the POR-15 process, I am thinking I'll tackle the slam panel for the rear hatch on my 240z first. Want to make sure I use a good rust proof paint underneath before spot welding it into place. Quote

It may have taken longer but the end result looks just as good! Quote
Brabham Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 +1 on the screwdriver and prepsol technique, it may take longer but it gets the matting off quite effectively and the prepsol takes care of the rest, just requires a bit of time and patience. Looks good Rev, what color was it originally? Gav an alternative to POR15 I am considering for the inside of panels is called Zinc Gal which I got from Bunnings and have used to protect parts before they get welded in. You can weld through it too being zinc rich, doesn't weld as nicely as the copper stuff though so may use it where no welding is required and do the areas to be welded with the copper. Found any rust in the floor Rev? Cheers Quote
chris240 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Rust rust ?? What shu talkin about willis Quote
reverendzed Posted February 19, 2015 Author Posted February 19, 2015 Pretty happy with what I have found - yes some rust in front passenger and drivers side but pretty minor - I will cut it and plate - everything else is 100% solid. Quote
chris240 Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 Dave, what happened with box of parts from luke the other week? Did he come good ? Quote
reverendzed Posted February 26, 2015 Author Posted February 26, 2015 Getting the Zed ready for a 3 stage polish - should lookalike glass when it's finished - Got all of the POR15 done so interior is nearly ready to install! zzzzed 1 Quote
potter260 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 I need motivation like you have to get mine finished...... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 27, 2015 Administrators Posted February 27, 2015 I need motivation like you have to get mine finished...... I had a slump in motivation recently, I've found that getting out to the garage and just doing something, anything, no matte how small kick starts your motivation. For me it was simply fitting some items to the drivers door so I could close it and continue with the alignment of the door etc.. @Rev - it already looks polished? Quote
reverendzed Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 @Rev - it already looks polished? Wait for it! Quote
chris240 Posted February 27, 2015 Posted February 27, 2015 Gavs right....Ive seen that paint up close, it doesn't need a polish !! Quote
reverendzed Posted February 27, 2015 Author Posted February 27, 2015 There is shiny and then their is glass! Quote
reverendzed Posted February 28, 2015 Author Posted February 28, 2015 Few more polish pics and just picked up some seats from an Alpha GTV Spider which are a perfect fit - just need to make some adjustments for the rails and get them reupholstered in black leather with diamond inserts. Quote
luvemfast Posted February 28, 2015 Posted February 28, 2015 Looks good Dave. What products and pads you using? Quote
FuzzyDropbear Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Love your work Dave, that finish is awesome. I recently bought some P21s and was amazed at the difference when I waxed the Pulsie compared to the Meguiars stuff I used to use. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 2, 2015 Administrators Posted March 2, 2015 Yes I'm curious to know what products and techniques are used also. Quote
reverendzed Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 I've been battling some pretty significant health issues lately - but today i had a better day so thought I would tackle the nemesis of rust in the both the drivers and passenger front floors - once I started I just knew I had to finish! Also had a quick test fit of both seats and they are perfect size for the Zed - just have to re-engineer the rail placement. Next is interior, seats retrimmed, diamond vinyl, carpets and reskin dash (that one might have to wait!) Quote
dat240z Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Good work on the repairs Rev. Chin up with the health and all the best mate Quote
