oldmates260z Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Looks great on the road.....very nice. Quote
Yo-Yo Posted August 4, 2014 Author Posted August 4, 2014 Got my Watanabes fitted. Was already dark when I got home from the tyre shop. I'll take some better pics on the weekend after I get my air dam fitted. Can anyone also tell me the oil capacity of the gearbox? is it 2.5/3L? more? Standard 5 speed box. Cheers! Quote
oldmates260z Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Why is it so? You can spend many thousands on engines, drivelines and suspension.....but a car always looks much faster with a great set of mags Mine looked ordinary until I put the right mags on it That looks fantastic! Quote
sydney mike Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Wheels must be the car equivalent of a boob job. Oh, car looks great btw Yo-Yo! Why is it so? Agno Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 From memory whenever I drain the gearbox it's always about 3 quarts (2.8ish litres). If you haven't already gotten anything Redline MT-90 is fantastic for these boxes. Quote
oldmates260z Posted August 4, 2014 Posted August 4, 2014 Oops missed the question, from Haynes manual 1.5 litres for standard 5 speed. When I did it last time I am sure it overflowed out of the filler before I added the nominated capacity Quote

Moderators Zedman240® Posted August 5, 2014 Moderators Posted August 5, 2014 Just make sure the car is level when adding the oil and just add until it overflows from the fill plug..then before you make a huge mess screw in the plug! Quote
Agno Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Close enough Meh, better than being caught short! Quote
Yo-Yo Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 Front airdam fitted & picked up my custom plates. Since my car doesn't have any badges my plates can remind me what I'm driving :P Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 16, 2014 Administrators Posted August 16, 2014 Starting to look the part, will the mirrors be getting changed also? Any plans for headlight covers? Would suit the Fairlady Z Grill up front, sadly they do cost an arm and leg though. Quote
Yo-Yo Posted August 16, 2014 Author Posted August 16, 2014 yeah definitely looking into fender mirrors but not a priority for me at this stage. Probably next is getting the guards rolled very slightly & getting coilovers + Adjustable control arms, that way I can lower it a bit & also give me some adjustability should I want to take it out on a track day in future edit: never really thought of headlight covers before, I've seen them on zed's before though. could be good insurance from any rock chips i suppose Quote
andyk_79 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Loving how you car is turning out! That airdam definitely looks the goods Quote
Yo-Yo Posted September 19, 2014 Author Posted September 19, 2014 Hey everyone, so I've decided to get my car lowered as the wheel gap makes me a sad panda. I've been thinking of this set from ebay which would be around $600-$700 delivered for a full set of springs & shocks: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAGG-4-SHOCKS-SPRINGS-that-fits-260Z-280Z-1974-to-1978-/121383761310?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1c4309359e thread on hybridz about the brand of coilovers: http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/117631-new-s30-shock-and-spring-option/ - For the money it would cost me to ship here would I be better off sourcing a local option eg. king springs & shorter shocks? - does replacing spring & shock mean I still need to get them cut & welded or is that just for coilover kits? - I'll definitely get front adjustable LCA's, would rear LCA's be necessary too in regards to alignment & reducing tyre wear? The rear would drop about 3cm's - my bushings still look good but I'm thinking of urethane replacements, are they worth it? Thanks! Quote
adam Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Cut and rewelding of struts is to simply improve travel for when you lower your car. Some say if you lower your car more than about an inch or two (depending on spring rate also) that you should shorten your struts. People have shortened them while maintaining the original spring seats, it's not only for Coilovers. In regards to rear arm, since it is none adjustable, you're best off replacing them to be able to control your camber and toe. Quote
Yo-Yo Posted March 28, 2015 Author Posted March 28, 2015 Hi everyone it's been a while since I posted up, caught up with work, uni & distracted by a new motorbike I'm ready to update the tired old 39 year old suspension (finally) & looking for some advice on the following shopping list: - I'm looking at Koni red shocks & King springs (KDFL-04 front & KDRS-09 rear) I'm hoping this will be a straight-forward "drop-in" option - New replacement bushings for the swaybars & tie rod/control rods etc. I might even dish out for a master bushing kit. - Front & rear Lower control Arms (any suggestions on where to get a set?) anything I have overlooked? Car is a '76 s30z (late model 260z equivalent) Quote
sydney mike Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Hey PJ, Judging from the pics of your interior and gauges I suspect your zed is the equivalent of an "early" 260z. Other things that can visually differentiate are the door lock knob position and door latches. I only recently refreshed my suspension using the same king springs part #'s you quoted below. I was told the koni reds were NLA (I didn't try hard to check TBH) and for what I do with my car I was advised to save money and skip the koni yellows and got KYB's instead. My zed is a late (12/76) build so I would double check the spring part #'s if I were you. I wanted adjustable Tokico's but the backorder was 6mths at the time. I have a set of 240Z/early 260Z king springs in my shed (KDFL-08, KDRL-09) if you want to try. cheers, Mike Hi everyone it's been a while since I posted up, caught up with work, uni & distracted by a new motorbike I'm ready to update the tired old 39 year old suspension (finally) & looking for some advice on the following shopping list: - I'm looking at Koni red shocks & King springs (KDFL-04 front & KDRS-09 rear) I'm hoping this will be a straight-forward "drop-in" option - New replacement bushings for the swaybars & tie rod/control rods etc. I might even dish out for a master bushing kit. - Front & rear Lower control Arms (any suggestions on where to get a set?) anything I have overlooked? dat2kman Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 What's wrong with your front and rear lower control arms? I have sets of both, can pack and post. Quote
Yo-Yo Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 What's wrong with your front and rear lower control arms? I have sets of both, can pack and post. Nothing wrong with stock ones really, but I'd like the ability to adjust the rears & I may as well get it all changed out at the same time. Will probably get some new Tension rods while I'm at it. If yours are adjustable on the rear I'm interested in talking price. Hey PJ, Judging from the pics of your interior and gauges I suspect your zed is the equivalent of an "early" 260z. Ebay is showing a set of koni reds to suit 240z/early 260z It is a bit of a strange one as the engine also has factory efi for a 1976 so I'm purely basing on year model for the suspension. Is there a way to be sure? Eg. can I just measure the circumference of the shocks or would I need to take out the suspension to get exact measurements? I tried tackling the spindle pins myself but was unsuccessful so I just bolted the rear back up to the tower Thanks for the advice & offers of help guys Quote
dat2kman Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 For really nce neat well made adjstable front/rear LCA'a and made here in Aus! Look up Zcar63 on here! Quote
Yo-Yo Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Thanks mate, I think I've seen a set posted by Gareth j? If it's the one I'm thinking they are very nice indeed. I took a few pics, hopefully this will help decode which ones I need. As you can see the suspension can definitely do with a freshen up Quote
sydney mike Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 Nice bike! The pics of the lock knob and door latch shows your '76 JDM fairlady is same as a 240z/early 260z. I can't remember the strut diameters but the late 260z's are thicker. Perhaps someone else can chime in and provide the dimensions. Many people have tried the late 260z low king springs in an early 260z or 240z and found that it actually raised the car! The opposite happened to me, the previous owner put the 240z or early 260z king springs in my late 260z and it was extra low. cheers, Mike Quote
Yo-Yo Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 so should I be getting the part#'s KDFL-08, KDRL-09? my car already looks like it's on stilts haha can't imagine it could go any higher. to be honest I'm more interested in getting some fresh legs under the thing, any height drop would be a bonus How have your KYB's held up so far?
