fufu Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 I actually used quite a bit of WD40. At the time I wasn't too familiar with Penetrine. I have very little patience when I start a particular task. I just want to finish the task at hand. So dremmeling the bolt, bolt remover, tap and die kit seems to be easier for me. Quote
fufu Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 As of Tuesday the 3rd of May the Devil Z has attained her registration. No hiccups this time with the paperwork. All smooth sailing. Had a few young Vicroads Officers handle the registration. They were even more helpful than the last officer and showed a large interest in the vehicle. So helpful that they even picked out the number plates that added up to the lucky number 9 without the need for me to ask for it. Also attended a car meet yesterday night at the popular Garage Cafe. Yesterday would also be the shakedown for the Z. Upon driving it looked like the fuel delivery system clogged up for a short time. I lost power at low RPM making me crawl like a turtle which resulted in traffic being held up. But after a minute everything went away and the power came back. The car felt immensely rev happy after that. With a blip of the throttle would shoot the rev meter to the 5000 rpm range. I did notice a few metallic rattles whilst driving. So the plan is to check the rear drive-train bolts and mounts this weekend and clean out the boot of any rubbish. Still getting use to the car. Requires a lot of focus when driving. It just feels like the car could become a Devil at any moment if my guard was ever let down. To be honest this car scares me because of the amount of issues I've had with it. Only time will fix this. fufu Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 A delicious parcel came today. What is it? Arizona Z Car Adjustable Lower Control Arms. Those following the project build so far are aware that I've been having scrubbing issues with the driver side tire. To try to fix the issue, I went to a suspension place and it was determined that adjustable suspension components were required to fix this issue. As such these bad boys were ordered. Should be installed soon and hopefully will solve the scrubbing issue. Fingers crossed. Quote
benny Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 very jealous!! you coming tonight with he car?? would be great to put a face to the name/car!! Quote
MaygZ Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Looking great FuFu. You know a drive down to East Gippsland would be awesome to settle some of those rattles! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,9099.0.html ;D Quote
fufu Posted May 6, 2011 Author Posted May 6, 2011 very jealous!! you coming tonight with he car?? would be great to put a face to the name/car!! Thank you for the kind words. Sadly, I won't be able to make it tonight. I made plans with a few work mates. I wouldn't be able to make it, as I'd need to go home, to pick the girl up, and sit through traffic to get from the West to the East. I'll be up for the next one. Looking great FuFu. You know a drive down to East Gippsland would be awesome to settle some of those rattles! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,9099.0.html ;D LOL, I'm more worried about the power issue. Scared me quite a bit. Had full power then it just cut and started to misfire and pop. I've also never liked the idea about being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Which brings me to the fact that I have no tools in the car at the moment. I'm looking into stocking everything up shortly. Including tire jacks, tools, a few litres of water, etc... I'll be testing her slowly around my area and then increasing the distance based on my comfort zone. I managed to find 1 rattle. The spare tire hasn't been secured properly so the bracket is just popping up and down. I'm certain if I look at the diff area, I'll be able to find a few more. Quote

zr240 Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Hi Fu Glade to see your up and running. Car looks awesome! Time to enjoy now, cannot wait to see it in the flesh Ash Quote
fufu Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 A parcel arrived today! Exciting! It was the radiator kit I ordered a month ago. The radiator kit was purchased to resolve the constant radiator and fan issues I had recently. The lack of clearance space between the radiator and the fan unit annoyed me so much I felt it was necessary to buy this kit. Mmmmmm shiny. I believe those silly vampires from twilight would lose to a shiny battle with this piece of metal. The kit also comes with matching shroud and two fans. Problem is the matching shroud doesn’t fit to well and will need some changes. On another note, I’ve called my local suspension place to book in a time to install those Arizona Z Car adjustable Lower Control Arms and Tension Control Rods. Quote
MaygZ Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Looks great, but the bottom hose might be a bugger to get on Quote
DeWit Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Nice looking car, seems to be coming together nicly from what i can see. I to am about to stuff around with engineers. Did your engineer mention anything about the size of your wheels ? My engineer has told me since my 240 was built in 73 and not 72 i can only have 15mm extra height and 25mm extra width, what year is your 240 ? did he mention anything like this to you ? It is a bit of a kick in the teeth for me as i miss out by 3 months, Seems a bit stupid to me. Maybr i need another engineer that will be more "agreeable" to what is on the car. Have you had any other issues ? Quote

Have you had any other issues ? Mine is a 71. Since it was pre-ADR, they didn't ask about it. They ended up making me a new tire/rim load sticker. Within the engineers certificate it also states after-market wheels and the sizes as well as the tire specification. I would suggest calling around to other engineers and asking for their perspective. Quote
fufu Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Got a link for the radiator and fan combo? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-ROW-RADIATOR-SHROUD-1970-1975-DATSUN-240z-260z-/190531642379?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5c92240b#ht_7658wt_1139 I felt it to be a better value package then anything sold within Australia. Especially since the AUD is doing so well. Quote
KatoKid Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Radiator looks the goods Fu. Whats the issue with the fan shrouds and how much was freight? Im looking at a PWR, same set up with shroud and fans and they want $850 + GST! Quote
fufu Posted May 12, 2011 Author Posted May 12, 2011 Radiator looks the goods Fu. Whats the issue with the fan shrouds and how much was freight? Im looking at a PWR, same set up with shroud and fans and they want $850 + GST! The issue with the fan shrouds is the alignment of the mounting holes with the mounting holes currently on the radiator unit. It's probably about 0.2cm off on 2 holes. Nothing a little bending won't fix. Freight costs $180USD. So a grand total of $570USD. Quote
zeds4ever Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 Hi Fu, not sure but won't you be able to cut bottom hose brkt where elbow starts & piece onto that if there is insfcnt length to attach hose securely. Looks the goods mate , should really suit that fan. HaHa. Regards: Alan. Quote
