Administrators gav240z Posted April 29, 2014 Administrators Posted April 29, 2014 Awesome, yeah just noticed they are advertised for other Japanese models also like Toyota Crown etc.. so I'd be interested to see how they look on a Z. It seems like a great price to be honest, not sure how they can make them so cheap but it has got me wondering what the quality is like. So looking forward to your feedback. Quote
phillay Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 i like the stalk but I dont really like the shape of the mirror, I am surprised that there isn't a replica for long stalk cone style mirrors on the market they look more suited to sporty cars (aero cone shape and all) Andrew_L26 1 Quote
gilltech Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 So for what period in Australia were these mirrors used? They don't look anything like the mirrors on NZ-new cars that I'm used to; were they a common Datsun dealer-installed pattern item? Quote
NZeder Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 So for what period in Australia were these mirrors used? They don't look anything like the mirrors on NZ-new cars that I'm used to; were they a common Datsun dealer-installed pattern item? The NZ market was kind of special we got the JDM fender mirrors and the Urethane front spoiled fitted (some call it the UK front spoiler as that is how most relate to it) and also the rear spoiler was also common on the NZ new cars. NZ cars were "General RHD Export" which is not Australian Spec or Europe Spec it was basically for the others RHD markets ie Asia and Oceania. It was a mix of Europe Spec, UK and AU spec with a bit of JDM through into the mix also. Quote
gilltech Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Hi Mike! Well that explains why the under-bumper front center panel on my NZ-new S30 has captive nuts along the rear edge, which the Aus-spec cars don't - I went to replace it with a tidy panel I found over here but changed my mind & on-sold it when I discovered it wasn't the same. Unfortunately a UK-style lip wasn't on my car when I bought it as I rather like them; maybe I will find a new replacement someday as the BRE-style lip I have - cool as they are - is too prone to damage. Do you know what the specs for the chrome fender mirrors for my '74 S30 would be? Again they were missing on mine, & although I've kept an eye out I've never found any replacements. They remind me of those on friends' 160J-SSS & 180B-SSS of the day, but I don't know how many variations of Datsun mirrors there were. Given the volume of cars, lots probably. Quote
NZeder Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 John, I have a set of the NZ new 260z fender mirrors off my 73/74 NZ new 260z (manufactured 73 and shipped to NZ in 73 as it was sold in very very early Jan 74 much like your car if I recall - we had a number of early 260z 2 seaters here in NZ, a guy Tim around the corner from me has RS30-000013 and RS30-000014, I have RS30-000119 all are green) and my 76 manufacture (ex Palmer car if you recall) had its original mirrors damaged in a bay park rollover - these were replaced with electric bluebird items which were almost identical but electric with just a minor shape difference. The 260z fender mirrors are like golf club woods in shape aka XA/XB/XC falcon type shape but fender mirrors not door mirrors. I have a factory urethane front clip too but not the original panels like your car has/had (both my 260z have had accidents in the front over there 40 (or almost 40) years of service so the front panels have been replaced) I have only ever seen these panels on NZ/UK new cars not the JDM, AU, USA imports. And if guys think the 240z fender mirrors in the original black are $$$ they should try and find 260z fender mirrors they are even rarer find and therefore usually more $$ Quote
gilltech Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Cheers Mike, that explains a lot. Yes they are more like the Falcon, not like the 240 at all. I've also seen those electric Bluebird mirrors, thought they were very close in shape. My mother had a new '76 120Y hatchback which again had similar mirrors, but in grey paint not chrome. My front centre panel has had a very hard life but come restoration time I will get it professionally repaired seeing as it's the correct part. My RS30 is 000115, sold new Dunedin Feb '74 IIRC. The tidy dashboard is out of 000130, replaced my original which was badly split, this before re-skinning services came available. 000130 was identical to mine in the reddy orange, in a Penrose wrecking yard after a nasty altercation with something. There was also another smashed one, again same colour, in a Gt Sth Rd yard from which I gained the Z front fixed seatbelts as mine were aftermarket, but I didn't think to get it's VIN#. So we know those two RS30's are long gone! Quote
Agno Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Ok I have the eBay mirrors, they aren't as square as I thought they would be and they look slightly longer than the ones mounted on that 1600. I'm happy to take photos for anyone that might like to see something a bit more specific Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 10, 2014 Administrators Posted May 10, 2014 Could you offer it up to the car in position to get an idea of how they might look when fitted? Quote
fly-s30 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 These look similar to the reference shots: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240z-Drivers-Side-Door-Mirror-1970-1973-NEW-OEM-/281329836231?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item418090a0c7&_uhb=1 Quote

webmanic Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 HS30-00084 came with the flat chrome mirrors on the fenders. This car was built in Sep 1970 and was sold in Qld late December. You can see pics of this car at http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/check-out-my-ride/46713-my-1970-240z-hs30-00084-a.html I have since bought a pair of the original black JDM bullet style mirrors with the longer stalk and plan to restore these and put them on the car. Wow 00084 is in really good original condition. Thanks for sharing the photos. I found these Fender Mirrors on Yahoo! Auctions listed as being for a Prince Skyline. Do they look the same as the mirrors on your early 240z? http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/g133805118 http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/k172851260 The second link appears to be similar, but I'm not sure if the base is the same? To me it makes sense that Nissan would use the same mirrors on more than 1 vehicle and not create a unique set of fender mirrors for the AU market only. Quote
webmanic Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 The mirrors in the first link look similar, though really hard to say with that weird setup and angle. I am struggling to see the stalk angle from the base and the angular form. The second link has mirrors that do not belong on a 240z. PM your email and I will send you pictures of the original mirrors. I have no idea how to embed them in this forum. Over the years, I have been preserving this car as a 'surviving' example of an early 240z. I am not restoring it but simply maintaining it to a very original standard. I was fortunate to buy it off the original owner who amazingly did nothing to it at all. Including plastic protection on the inner panels from the factory, original 2 sets of keys and nissan key case, D hubcaps etc - all the stuff you just don't get. Needless to say, I bought the car on the spot. Quote
44014 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 When i owned #160 it had the brackets under the front guards that had been filled over but you cold still feel the bracket under the fender. Quote

Agno Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The ones I bought a month or so ago from eBay are extremely similar in every single way, I'd love to get a shot of them side by side as the only difference I can spot is that the base of mine is rounded at the front compared to the chisel point of the above photos. Administrators gav240z Posted August 19, 2014 Administrators Posted August 19, 2014 Bump. So I found this on Yahoo! Auctions a couple of weeks ago and thought it was an AU market drivers side mirror. Now that I got it home I am wondering if it's actually a fender mirror? I took some photos for reference. (sadly my 240z driver side mirror for the red 72 240z is in Melbourne so I can't compare, but it seems the angle of the stalk on this 1 is longer and more angled to the right (away from driver side). It's not a US market mirror because the angle would be totally wrong for the other side of the car and flipping the mirror would make it look plain wrong. Anyway it came in this bag. That looks like a Nissan part no. to me? 25360-N4400 - but I'm not sure if anyone can cross reference it? Here is is offered up to the door. I think this photos shows that it seems to extend out further right than I would expect. The purple is a form of protective plastic on it, it peels off - which makes me think it could be NOS? Notice the angle it's droops downward. Offered up to the fender. It was listed as a right hand Hakosuka / S30z mirror. It almost seems like it would be more suitable as a fender mirror. Quote
NZeder Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 25360-n4400 is a door/dome light switch part number see attached sample. Quote
MyEnquiringMind Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hi Gav, I too was interested in staying as close to as original as I could find, so in #283, I went with the look as you have shown it... (excuse the later model hubcaps, was playing around with the look of the car). I did so on the basis of the fender mirrors on #4 as evidence that the car came out in the period with this style of fender mirror. I have had comments from people along the lines of why I used a non authentic fender mirror, but have photo evidence. I am yet to see an Australian delivered car with fender mirrors with the bullet style, despite the general perception that Z cars only came out with them. Cheers, Jarrod. Quote
Andrew_L26 Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 So I'm in the market for some fender mirrors and I was having a little look on Ebay and found this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CHROME-NEW-FENDER-MIRROR-LH-RH-FIT-DATSUN-NISSAN-S30-240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-/311423673998?fits=Model%3A260+Z&hash=item48824c268e Which I thought looked like the mirrors pictured above I'm getting increasingly interested in just getting standard door mirrors, any suggestions for some nice chrome ones? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 6, 2015 Administrators Posted September 6, 2015 They are similar, but not quite the same. I have managed to find a genuine pair of OEM mirrors (AU market style). Also have the later bullet style ones that were fitted to cars from 71 onwards. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 28, 2016 Administrators Posted February 28, 2016 So I think these are AU market fender mirrors. What is interesting is I don't find these part no.s in the AU market microfiche. Only 1 part no. 96302-A0800 But usually the other side is 1 number away. So I am guessing the right hand side is 96301-A0800 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted March 10, 2016 Administrators Posted March 10, 2016 Merged a couple of threads on this topic. I also found a couple of other discussions on it. As you can see a lot of confusion here: http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/17034-a-theory-rhd-hs30-model-standard-exterior-rear-view-mirror-fitment/?page=1 I think in part because the AU parts manuals don't specify the mirrors we see on early cars. Perhaps because the parts manual was updated in 1977/8 and as a result they omitted the old mirror part no.? I do find it interesting that Nissan decided to fit these mirrors when exporting to our market and not use the regular bullet style mirrors? Perhaps it was a cost cutting exercise? Or perhaps like fenders that had no side repeaters installed it was just the way they wanted to present the cars in our market. But somewhere into the 71 model range Nissan appears to have switched briefly to the JDM market mirrors before going to the single door mirror like the North American markets had, but moulded specifically for RHD. Here is some footage circa 1972. (1:50 mins in) You can just see the 240z in the background with the fender mirror on it like the Japanese Market had. I've attached a photo incase the video is ever removed and no longer works.[ http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/9047/mirror.html Since Geocities is as reliable as a Chocolate Teapot I have copied some images here. A few notes, the 43.9 means 1969 and 9th Month. 44=70 and so on. It appears these mirrors were also fitted to lower spec Skyline's of the same era. Quote
HS30-H Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 A few notes, the 43.9 means 1969 and 9th Month. 44=70 and so on. It appears these mirrors were also fitted to lower spec Skyline's of the same era. The Skyline (and Bluebird) IKI mirrors look similar to the Fairlady Z mirrors, but they have a different stalk length/angle. The Fairlady Z type IKI mirrors have a unique (long) stalk and angle. All the parts except the stalks are the same. Quote
