George Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 Rain or Burst pipe? There's a pit in front of the underground garage door which collects all the rainwater and the pumps failed. One is a backup so I'm not sure what happened but I suspect a blocked pipe as they use the same one. Waiting for a plumber to come and check them out. Quote
Riceburner Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hope there's not too much damage George. It's common for them to eventually seize and trip the breaker. The back up pump runs so you don't notice the difference until it stops too. Does it have any fault lights or high level alarms? If you know where they are powered from check if the circuit breakers are tripped. If so they'll probably be seized. Quote
George Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 The circuit breaker was fine but I'm not ruling out an electrical problem. I did note a lot of sludge in the pit and I believe it has not been cleaned in a few years. Quote
Riceburner Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 The sludge is pretty normal, the pumps will sit on the bottom below all that. Hope it's not too exy. Quote
chris240 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Hmmmm youll have to advise the insurer that the water has damaged beyond repair that newly completed L24... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 19, 2014 Administrators Posted August 19, 2014 I wouldn't worry about damage to the motor George. It was going to need a tear down and rebuild anyway. Quote
C.A.R. Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Well that's gotta suck George! I hope the clean up goes well. Quote
George Posted August 19, 2014 Author Posted August 19, 2014 The insurance company sent out a clean up crew an hour after I called them! They called them 'The Restorers'. The prompt response made me feel like I was in the movies with a hit-man-clean-up crew speeding through the streets of wet Sydney to come to my place. It was crazy and totally unexpected from an insurance company. Unfortunately they had to come back this morning after the water was all drained out. Also unfortunately, the engines, tranny and diff are not covered by the home insurance policy (as far as I'm told). I'm not too fussed but I was hoping they'd pony up for a nice professional clean (or dry as it were). Quote
vorn70 Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 hey George, I hope your home is staring to get back to normal after the "flood" with minimal damage and disruption. Have you checked out your Eng, diff, and tranny for water. You might be able to flush out the the water with some diesel/ drain the oil if it has gone into the cylinders and spray some WD40 on the outside to help keep it rust free. Quote
George Posted August 21, 2014 Author Posted August 21, 2014 I was about to have a go yesterday when the restorer guys turned up. They suggested that is should be covered by insurance along with everything else that was water damaged. I'm just waiting for the insurance company to get their report and we'll go from there. A couple of the restorer guys were car enthusiasts so they'll be on my side I'm sure. Fingers crossed! Quote
George Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 I chased up the insurance company a couple of times and even though it sounded promising I was running out of time so I borrowed a ute and took it to a mechanic. About half a cup of water came out when I lifted it on to the ute and the mechanic reported a small amount in #6. Nothing to worry about but now I know it's dry of water and it has been oiled. The engine turned by hand easily and was generally clean with minimal bore lip. It is now safely stored at home and out of my mind until I need it in a couple of years time... My assistant Quote
George Posted October 31, 2014 Author Posted October 31, 2014 Mmm, boxes :-) I'll post some photos if I get the chance this weekend. Quote
Brabham Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 No need George, they all seem to be full of books anyway Quote
George Posted November 1, 2014 Author Posted November 1, 2014 No need George, they all seem to be full of books anyway Shh, that's how I sneak everything in to the country. No one suspects books... Sorry about the image dump. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted November 1, 2014 Administrators Posted November 1, 2014 I'm starting to feel a bit dizzy after seeing all that stuff. Is some of it second hand? I noticed it was a bit dirty / dusty and a couple of minor cracks in 1 or 2 pieces? Where did you get it from and did you have to pay import duties on it? I'm guessing it was all over $1000 AUD or perhaps sent separately? Quote

mossy Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 If the trims were anything like mine there will be plenty of plastic trimming and adjusting the holes for the rivets to fit. Quote
sydney mike Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Can't wait to see some progress of this one and Gav's early girls. I couldn't do it this way myself, too impatient! Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted November 1, 2014 Moderators Posted November 1, 2014 Some VERY nice trim pieces in that lot. Your early is going to be amazing. Any photo's of the progress on the body ? Cheers PB Quote
Retro Z Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Those trim peices look sweet. Let us know where you got them from and the quality. Im thinking of getting some myself from here: https://zcardepot.com/collection/interior Quote

I'm guessing it was all over $1000 AUD or perhaps sent separately? Like Benny said, just comparing to the old pieces. Everything I ordered arrived undamaged. It's all from Les at Classic Datsun. http://www.classicdatsun.com He gets big thumbs up from everyone at Classic Z Cars forums and he was involved with the Nissan resto cars a while back. It took a while to organise everything but I picked up the phone a few times and put my trust in Les and he came through despite some issues with his wholesaler/manufacturers. The only thing he couldn't supply in the end was the carpet which was disappointing considering some of the issues I've read about with local suppliers. I was warned about the seat valves not being the best repro and so I wasn't too disappointed when I saw them. It looks easy enough to swap them out for original ones though so I'll be on the lookout for a set. Other than that, the diamond pattern looks superb (no I did not get the verniers out) and the plastic texture can't be faulted. The seat frames are second hand but everything has been freshly powder coated. Interestingly the seat backs have evidence of rust patches near the bottom. I wonder if this is a usual place for rust or if it's just this set. Either way it's not a concern. If you recall Gav I did ask you, and Jarrod, if you needed some interior bits back in March. Took a while due to his supplier issues and also because I had them sea freighted to save on costs. Yes, it did attract tax and duty. All up delivered to my door it was a touch over $3k. Apart from jute, carpet and clips etc, that's the whole interior ticked. Just don't have a body to put it on yet... :-\ Mark, yeah I kind of expect it but looking at some of the pieces they're pretty spot on. Won't know until we get to that stage and won't worry about it until it starts to make me swear. Pete, last I heard Paul sold my shell to fund his Hako so... Quote
mossy Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 The seats look very nice, I've heard Les has the best repro foams and seats covers , they will come up mint! Quote
