240Z T-Shirts in various colours and styles
andyk_79 replied to grimlynsan's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Some more Z and Hako T-shirts and hoodies etc at Teespring: http://teespring.com/stores/datsun-by-j Warning with sizing - the ones I ordered before were huge (being American sizes built for a fast food nation), although I think they were a different brand of shirt the designs were on than these. -
Wow so many Z's!!! Feeling a little gutted that I couldn't make this one but packing had to take precendence. Look forward to catching up with everyone at the next bash.

I bought Pete's off him - he decided against it once it was established they need to go through NDT and get approved by an engineer. I haven't fitted it yet though (waiting until I'm ready to do other engineering stuff down track)

New place is at Kings Langley and the BBQ is an awesome idea. Might look at that once we're settled

The doors won't lock with the key or from the inside with the knob either. Think I saw someone else on here had similar issues where the locking part of the mechanism has seized over time

Good Point re a list: Strip sound deadening off (one side done) and some patch work in the floor pans Getting Heater Box, fan etc back in, connected up and working (I was doing well with this job until recently....) New seat Seat foams covers fitted and seats back together (have the parts) Carpets/underlay stuff fitted (have a kit but came with zilch instructions) Speedo cable is sitting in the cabin - pretty sure it is the gearbox end that is not connected (Haynes manual does not show where on the auto box the cable attaches, or what path it takes to get out of the cabin for that matter) Headlights and indicators not working (although ALL other lights are). Wiring diagrams etc do my head in and my attempts to trace the problem have been pretty fruitless Fit new headers and exhaust - have got all the parts including new gasket and replacements studs and nits etc but again I got a bit overwhelmed looking at the Haynes manual and all the various things the carbies connect to. I think I could do this job if I had some time and space Replace points with Pertronix kit (again I have the parts and think I could do it but time/patience/fear of stuffing it) Get the locks all working - doors open and close but won't lock There's other bits and pieces I would like to sort out as well, but these are the primary ones so that I can actually drive it somewhere !! I know for most people on here this is not a particularly terrifying list - but for me I get a bit flustered any time I hit a problem and can't work out how to solve it. I love trying to solve problems in my line of work (around data mapping etc) but the car is a magnet for my fear !!

I am wanting to do the TAFE course - pure inertia / laziness there in terms of why I haven't done it yet. It's not even the bodywork I'm so worried about at the moment - it's the fiddly jobs to get it back together and working (bodywork I am waiting a few years until I have the money to get a pro to do the full nut/bolt panels off job)
-
I should add in case it is not clear - I would be looking to pay someone for this.

Hi all Well it is getting to the point where I just don't have the time/skills to do the bits of fiddling to get my Z roadworthy and am looking to outsource some of the work. Selling the car is not an option for me mentally/emotionally after wanting a zed for so long and for the reasons I bought it when I did, but leaving it sitting in the garage with only little bits of fiddling going on is not an option either!! I work at home a fair few evenings and weekends are family time for me and the car takes a low priority to that (and to the normal chores and housework along the way!) Anyway enough of the bleeding heart and getting to the point - anyone know in Sydney in the enthusiast/semi-retired mechanic style vein who I could approach? I'm thinking I guess in a similar vein to what the Rev does in VIC. I would like someone who could hopefully teach me as we go along. Would prefer not to just send it off to a mechanic as I don't learn anything out of that (and it'll cost me top dollar I'm sure). It's mostly a thought bubble at the moment and comes out of the frustration of knowing that we're moving house and I will need to hire a tow truck just to move my car as I haven't been able to get my a** into gear, when I originally thought I would have a roadworthy, registered Z 12 months ago!! Any thoughts etc appreciated.

The Ebay Thread #2 - Post Ebay Parts Here!
andyk_79 replied to XRQTR's topic in Parts and Tools for Sale
Every time I open this thread I see this: and think of this: -
Well not much Z progress to report - have done some pottering around when time allows and have finally got the heater box back together (had more trouble putting it together than I did taking apart - and taking it apart really sucked!) and have put it back in the car, as well as fiddling with thinks like pinchweld door seals - found one that is a good size for a Z at Clarke Rubber (after first buying one that was WAY too big). The Z (and family) will soon have a new home though as we finally got into a position where we were able to buy back into the market in Sydney after selling our house down in Melbourne and then saving and waiting. After the move in 5 weeks the poor girl is gonna have to be under a carport in a weather cover until we can build a shed though, as the garage will be full of mowers, pushbikes etc until shed gets built. Exciting times ahead!

Not surprised they sold so quick -
In terms of local suppliers, Protrim list that they do door cards for 260's (although no year designation). They could be worth discussing with: http://www.prostitch.com.au/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=62&cat=POLYWELD+Reproduction+Door+Trims $1580 a pair not bad for what looks like a fairly reasonable reproduction to me, although the do say to contact them for options and pricing

Common in most Australian delivered cars back then. My first car was a 1979 Holden and even by then it only had a factory mirror on the driver's side.

One of the joys of Sydney life Gav! You can't prevent them - pretty much need pest treatment every year. Professional treatment will get rid of most of the issue.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..

OK - I admit that there is something VERY wrong with me.......... but I kinda like the convertible look. I've seen some shocking conversions (of other cars) before but this one at face value appears to have been semi-reasonably executed. -

I think the gold is only a rust proofing product reacting with the white paint - it's got brush marks in it.... -
I was planning full rego because I didn't want to be restricted to club drive days (not that I am in a club at the moment), but 60 days a year is 5 days a month - covers me going for a weekly drive plus one more drive through the month. I'd definitely consider it if it means a big differential in cost. Can't see myself driving it a lot more than that as 2 seater means either the wife or the daughter misses out and I don't want to negotiate that one any more than once a week !

I think the general consensus is that that rust it is much more than a day's work to get any usable parts off there.... -
A fellow 113 green !! Good luck with everything and welcome

S130 Fairlady Z 280zx 2 seater aka "BADWOG"
andyk_79 replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
I met Jabba at a charity function Tuesday night. Was talking about other stuff and didn't get chance to talk about this car! Love the progress you've made -
I like the Wiki style update idea with mod approval rather than trying the minefield of only the current owner can update the record - especially if a member logs their car, then sells it and is only an occasional user of the site. One other idea might be an ownership/location history table to track the cars over time - if in 10 years time someone wants to look at the known history of a Z they've bought for example. More a behavioural thing but if/when this gets up and running it would be good if we can heavily encourage members to use it for any that own one - I know for me personally inertia/laziness has meant my car is not on the Z register at the WA site even though there's a sticky topic recommending members go do this ! Not sure how this could be achieved without putting people off - maybe something similar to the member status flag around whether a donating member or not?
