  1. OK I got my answer - fitting retractables, even ones that bolt straight into the factory seat belt anchor points, is considered an upgrade/change and would need an engineer's certificate to pass blue slip. On the plus side the mechanic who was looking over my car that I spoke to about this advised that my seat belts are fine so no need to replace them anyway.
  2. Just wanted to recommend Lube Mobile (of all things!) for Sydney siders. I wanted someone to look over my new 72 240Z and to give it a good service. When they saw the make and model on the web booking they sent Shane, who has spent the last 20 years building Datto's, including a 1600 that does 12 second quarters ! He's a member of the Sydney Datsun owners club as well. Always good to find a mechanic who shares your love of a particular make and who already has parts contacts etc in Sydney. Nice bloke too! Lube Mobile driver ID is A21
  3. Plans after rego are fairly tame for now. Cosmetic stuff such as wheels, air dam, wheel arch flares. Down the track I'd like to put in an rb25 turbo or similar but that is a pipe dream for now.
  4. Good Advice - thanks shall do
  5. Hi all Introducing myself. Finally am buying my first Z! A 1972 240Z. I am a long time 240Z admirer - first remember really noticing one about 15 years ago and it has been top of my wishlist ever since. Up until now other considerations have always gotten in the way so I am a little excited to be able to say I pick it up tomorrow!! I've already reaped the benefits of being a member here. Found info on seat skins which I know I will need for the unregistered vehicle inspection as the existing seats a split to high hell. Seat skins ordered ! Also found invaluable links and references for suppliers etc. Look forward to interacting with you all. Thanks everyone for your patience with a noob and for your insights! Andy
  6. Hi all. I pick up my 72 240Z tomorrow and I am pre-empting that the seat belts will not be up to scratch when trying to get my NSW unregistered vehicle inspection (formerly blue slip) done. I'm liking the idea of the Hemco retractables from reading other people's experience in the forums. Looks like they are a relatively simple bolt in without changing anything? My understanding is that I wouldn't need an engineers certificate for replacing the existing lap/sash with retractable lap/sash but wanted to check if anyone possibly has had any experience with this? I'm trying to fix all the obvious things before I even rock up to an inspection station (already ordered seat skins!) to try and smooth the process as much as possible. Here's hoping they don't find a hard to fix leak!! Anyone who's had experience with blue slipping a Z in general any comments would be welcome !
  7. Just wondering if anyone has used the carpet kits from datsunparts.com. One of the few I've seen that has RHD kits advertised.
  8. I'm pretty useless with my hands but willing to give things a go. How difficult are these to do?
  9. Thanks all for the messages. Was just reading up on the 15th - might come for a drive although I'm pretty sure the Z won't be rego by then so it will be in a family wagon! Yeah I got PPSR but thanks for the offer.
  10. Indeed I did - just decided to bite the bullet. For 15 years I have been wanting a 240Z but the timing was never right. The timing is still not right but my wife was supportive so I'm happy !! Looking forward to more reading on these forums with fellow fans and owners.
  11. Wishing I had of seen this earlier - I am winning the resale on Ebay and they have stated the body is immaculate !! Have sent them a question with a link to the original ad but I bet they don't come back to me before auction end !! Oh well I've always wanted a 240Z so them's the breaks I guess. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=231241817163
