  1. Just watched Roadster Revival. What a great video, really enjoyed it.
  2. I'm glad you said that. I was thinking the same thing, but worrying that I had overlooked something obvious. They're going to all the effort of doing the transplant, but don't want to have to reposition the engine mounts?. Am I missing something?. I'm interested, is there something going on in the forward 5 inches of the engine, that means it can't be shifted back relative to the cross member?
  3. Yea, she's a bit of a mess underneath. Bits of older and newer stuff. Headers, expansion chamber and muffler, all connected up at different stages of work. I've managed a ghetto fix for now, to stop it rattling, lol. Just trying to save up a few dollars to get the lot replaced. Hopefully only a few more weeks.
  4. Cheers Gilltech, you've helped me zero in on the front mount. The first two images relate to the rear hanging points. The front mount hangs off the gearbox, it seems. The image of the nice shiny gearbox, which isn't mine, shows the connection lugs, just under the shifter. The following images are from the manual, and show the bracket and connection. I'm now confident that I can tell the exhaust shop where to hang the system from. Cheers, Rob
  5. Cheers Andrew. It looks like my setup is exactly the same as yours. I couldn't find that diagram online, my googling skills need improvement.. Lol. Only just remembered I had the original service manual. Which basically shows the same thing. But my issues have sort of escalated since looking for that. My muffler has always been on an ugly 45 degree angle. Now I know why. Straightening it produces the attached photo issue. Didn't want to fit a new exhaust just yet, but.....Mmmmm Cheers, Rob
  6. Howdy all, My exhaust system is currently only fixed at one point. The flexible strap near the exhaust. Surely there must be another hanging point under the car? I'm trying to poke my head under there, as best I can, but I'm not seeing anything obvious. The cut away in the cross member for the rear suspension seems like the only obvious location. Any input appreciated. Cheers, Rob
  7. Absolutely. Don't get me wrong, I will watch the rest of the series. Like the Binky series, I admire good engineering/fabrication skills.
  8. Welcome Looks great. Much required to get her registered ? I've had mine for nearly 5 years. Just started driving it as my daily. Best decision I've ever made Cheers, Rob
  9. Ok.. So this will basically be an M5 with a 240z body kit.. I currently feel very conflicted.... Lol. As I love both cars. I must admit though, that I actually stopped watching when he mentioned moving the wheels back 5 inches!!!
  10. Welcome Paul Yea, would love to see photos of your car. Come to the right place, a lot of experienced Zed owners here. Cheers, Rob
  11. Yea, in my experience it's all the ancillary items, new hoses ect, that add significantly to the cost. What Ramflo filters are you running?. I assume you're talking about the plastic elbow, on the filter, for the breather that's hitting the choke lever? Using mine as a reference, each filter has a hole on the lower right hand side. It's a tight fit but I will be able to connect to either filter. The HS6's must have different dimensions?
  12. Howdy, I'm very interested in this product. But I need some additional info. This will seem like an odd request, but what are the diameter of the coffee cup holes? I ask this question having tried severel other options. I've attached a picture to show how I currently transport coffee in my car... Lol. Cheers Rob
  13. Power steering!!!!. Shame on you all....... Lol I had a Zed that had power steering and efi.... It's called a 350z... That's why I now drive a 260z...
  14. Hi, I'm running 8's on the front. Very heavy when turning at an intersection, but I actually like that. Forget turning with the palm of one hand... Lol. But with that said, feels great once your going. I like the heavier feel when on the highway. Should note, I'm running a 14 inch steering wheel. Cheers, Rob
  15. I'm running Ramflo filters. I personally like the look of them. I didn't mind the 4 barrel performance, it was more about seeing it every time I opened the bonnet....lol. From what I've seen, that price seems reasonable for restoring that many parts.
  16. Looking really nice Did the rebuild cost include restoring the heat shield and manifold? I have just done the same thing as you . I just replaced my 4 barrel with SU. I ended up going with the Midel HS6 conversion. Seemed expensive for just the carbs and linkage, but was happy not to wait 7 weeks
  17. Nice . I have the same model and year, different colour. That pollution gear!!..lol...I have vague memories of mine looking like that. Looks like the carbs were running round pod style air filter?. Doubt the original air filter would fit anymore, not without adapting.
  18. Ok... A big fat +1 to this previous post . Thank you Gilltech. You've basically laid out every concern / thought I've had about the pass through system. Plus, it's plain ugly. Sorry Gav, we've wonder way off topic. I'd be happy to start a specific topic.
  19. Absolutely. Which is why I'll never discount the fact, that the setup on my triples possibly wasn't optimal. Maybe I'm just better at setting up 4 barrels than triples ... Lol.
  20. Cheers Don't say that Gav..... I'm just about to go back to SU's... Lol. HS6's to be exact. That will be a full circle for me.. Looking forward to it I should add though that I never drove it much on the original SU's, as it died not long after getting it. So this will really be a first for me
  21. Cheers Roady. Good to hear your experience on the subject. Assuming you mean the original fuel rail. I removed this years ago, so this shouldn't be a problem for me.
  22. Yea, that's been my understanding so far. Which isn't an issue where I live. But, I've read it argued, that without the water pass through, the carbs can overheat. Causing vapour lock ect. But, if that was the case, then surely all weber setups would suffer the same problem.
  23. Yea, I've been doing a lot of research on this. Googled it inside out, lol. Opinions vary. My only concern is heat soak. But I'm wondering how much cooling the pass through actually provides. Didn't the early models use a valve to stop the flow when it reached a certain temperature?. Or have I misread/misunderstood this?
  24. Yea , my pipe was damaged that's why I cut it. Crushed and bent. But i am seriously considering ditching it ? , thoughts ? , was actually thinking of starting a topic to ask just this question.
  25. Hi All , Due to fact that I am about to change the carburettor setup on my car ( again ) I thought I would relay my experience with having a 4 Barrel Setup. When I initially set out, to do this conversion, I found that the amount of info out there is limited. This wont be an exhaustive review/analysis, but I hope it can help provide a little additional info to anyone looking to do this. While many people do frown on this particular conversion , I would like to begin by saying that it has treated me well. A solid performer that makes for a good daily drive. After re-jetting it has produced a solid AFR of around 13.5 ( which seems to be my motors sweet spot ). The Setup Clifford Water Cooled Intake Edelbrock 500 ( An Edelbrock ?? , will explain shortly ) Cable Conversion ( from The Z Store ) My Engine Recently rebuilt L26 ( About 4 years ago , less than 5000km ). Flat tops , Mild Camtech Cam, Mallory Distributor / Ignition Controller, Electric fuel pump & Radiator Fan. Basically nothing exceptional. Jetting / Tuning Why the Edelbrock 500, when most run 390 Holley's ?, primarily the cost ( that turned out to be a joke..lol ). After a little research I realised the Primary Throttle body sizes are the same ( Venturi is slightly larger on the Edelbrock ). And, as you spend most of your time driving on the Primaries I decided this wasn't going to be an issue. I can't recall the exact rod/jet combo , so I'll come back and fill in this section with my exact rod/jet sizes ( after I have removed it from the car ) . But every car is going to be different , so my setup isn't necessarily going to be meaningful to others. But , you are going to need to lean the Edelbrock from it's standard setup. It ran very rich out of the box. But, as I stated initially, I now get an AFR reading ( in car gauge ) of around 13.5 at cruise & 12.5 under acceleration. If I had to do this over again I would go with the Holley 390, as I understand this will work out of the box ??. The Clifford Manifold The water pass-through manifold ?. Honestly I'm not sure how I currently feel about this , as I only have the triples to compare this with , and they would start and run without choke ! I feel it has a very slow warm-up period. Now i'll preface this by saying that the oversized carb on a single plane manifold may contribute to this . But I'm looking at around 2 minutes ( with full choke / 15 deg ambient temp ) before I don't have to ride the throttle , and then another 5 minutes before I can fully disengage the choke. Is this comparable to SU's ?? , dry 4 barrel manifolds ?? Performance Ok , unfortunately I have never had this setup dyno'd. I did have the original triple Webers ( 40's ) dyno'd when the engine was rebuilt and got around the mid 120 rwkw mark. I think it was 123??. Does this setup feel as if it has as much torque ? , definitely not. The triples would pull like crazy from 500rpm. This need to be driven into the 1.5-2k range , but then it goes like crazy. My butt dyno can't tell the difference , lol. Would it have less HP than the triples ? , I suspect so. But, it is far more drive-able in traffic , for me anyway , than the original triple setup. Maybe my triple tuning wasn't optimal ?? Cost A lot more than I expected....Isn't that always the case...lol. Including all the AN fittings, new hoses ect. , I spent over 1.5k on this setup. Final Thoughts Fitting the manifold was tough , really tough. Due to the fact that the manifold has to slope downwards , to accommodate the carb height , there isn't enough room ( in some cases ) to get your hand in to fit the nuts/bolts. I also had to remove the bonnet vent cover/cowling, that normally sits under the bonnet on the left hand side ( to stop water dripping on the carbs ) , as the air filter would rub otherwise. Otherwise I am very glad i decided to try this. It was a fun experience. If anyone want's to know any additional info, has anything to add , or would like additional pictures ( as I'll have the setup for maybe a couple more weeks ) , let me know Cheers, Rob A couple of links to old videos I put up. https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/photo/104716928338032625573/6215375660745769906 https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/photo/104716928338032625573/6225049601407320498
