  1. Hi All , I'm trying to identify the manifold gasket I removed today. It has a metal core sandwiched between graphite? layers. May seem like a silly question , but it worked. I'm looking at online retailers , but it isn't clear as to the exact composition of most. If anyone has any suggestions or advice regarding what they use , it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  2. Hi All , After much debate, I have decided to offer for sale a complete triple weber setup. It's time to take the car in a different direction. Includes the carbs, manifold, linkages, air filters and even the modified throttle linkage. I've had this setup on the car for about a year , and have had no issues with it ( Just came off the car about an hour ago). Originally purchased from Weber Performance about 18 months ago. Carbs : 40mm DCOE with 30mm Chokes Manifold : Redline ( please note the manifold has been machined to suit a 10mm extractor flange - see pic ) Jetting - Basically as received from Weber Performance. Mains 120 ( will include original 115's with sale ) Idle 45-f9 Tube f11 Corrector - ?? ( no visible number and she's not coming off without a fight ) Price : $1300 - not including postage. Please feel free to contact/phone me if you need any additional info/pics Zero four two four one two three two three nine Cheers , Robert
  3. Cheers Gavin , thanks for the feedback. Would love a Peter Mac engine , the only problem is that I would end up sleeping in the car , not because I couldn't pay the mortgage, but because the wife would kick me out of the house. Of course many would say "The problem there is...... ??" , lol While the options are endless , I am currently throwing around the idea of buying another engine , closer to a workshop I want to use , and getting it rebuilt and shipped up to me. But I then have to find someone here who I trust to install it and set it up correctly ( triple webers / full electronic timing control , ect ). And I also have to give up my original engine. I may have to realistically look at Brisbane based options , I will start a thread shortly to see if any Brisbane based members have any suggestions. That way I can ( economically ) ship the engine first followed by the car when its ready. I think I will have to chew on it for a few more days , I have a weeks leave starting on the 1st of October , till then work commitments are going to keep me too busy to really do much.
  4. Last night I watched the Gruen Transfer and saw this Victorian Metro public safety ad. Thought it was rather funny. Had to share it. Of course I assume many Victorians may have already seen it.
  5. Hey Matty , I'll PM you shortly , you will know the name. I don't want to rubbish this business in a public forum, as there may be a legitimate reason for the substandard service I have received. Even though I don't believe there is such a thing ( having been in the service industry for over 20 years ) This is a well known business , not only locally but interstate , who promise to involve the customer in the whole experience . Well my experience has been anything but involving. After the first week I called to see what was happening , to be told ... Yea we should be able to open it up tomorrow , I'll give you a call then. Well a week and a half passes, so I go in and see them in person , I am then told that it will be three weeks before they can look at it. Well three weeks have come and gone and still nothing. I understand that things happen in business that can cause unexpected delays , but the number one rule of business ( in my experience ) is to let the client know , therefore making them feel that you actually give a damn about them. I am happy to spend in excess of 5k ( excluding the 3k+ I have already spent on parts ) to have this engine rebuilt. Now I am sure this is nothing, compared to what some people spend on their engines, but for an L26 I think it's rather considerable. And I would like to add that no apolgy or explanation has ever been given. Sorry , just needed to vent.
  6. My engine has now been in the workshop for 6 weeks and they haven't even started working on it. Starting to think it's time to move on to someone else.
  7. No..no overnight parts from Japan...yet , lol I really have to learn to control myself. I still have to pay for the rebuild , and then to have all the shiny new parts installed. After all of this I will have to take it easy for a while....of course the body could do with some work and while I think about it the seats could do with recovering
  8. Imported from the good old US of A No Kameari's , but they should be more than adequate for the L26. OBX is the brand , 16 gauge stainless steel and have a thick flange , which means I won't have to machine as much off the intake manifold.
  9. No worries about the zed being neglected. Thinking of which, this arrived today.
  10. Yea , she's a beauty, well was... Now due for a rotisserie level rebuild. Most people would say scrap it , but my wife has owned it for 25 odd years, and she loves it. Currently exploring restoration options. There's at least one business in brissy who specialise in restoring muscle cars and a few down south. Either way expecting to spend 20k on the body alone. Ouch....
  11. Yep , tell me about it. Old cars are like the painting of the Harbour Bridge. Just when you think you have reached the end it's time to start at the beginning again. As I type, I have a V8 XB Ford sitting in our garage due for its second rebuild.
  12. Yes .. the magic power of beer should never be underestimated..haha As for car tuning, I have spent many an hour cursing and swearing at various cars , to only end up wheeling it to the nearest mechanic ( don't get me started on lawn mowers and line trimmers ) That's why I intend on getting the workshop to get everything up and running. Sure , I am cheating myself of the satisfaction of a job well done , but I just want to drive my car at this stage I'll have plenty of time to play later. Do you have access to the basics , like a gunnerson coloutune plug and airflow meter ? If not I would be happy to lend you mine.
  13. Cheers mate. I may have to take you up on that offer. So....how strong are you ? , lol As you can see, I had a shiny new part arrive in the mail today. At the moment I am destroying my hands trying to remove the rotor The plan at this stage is to lock-out the distributor and use a programmable MSD 6al-2 controller to set the timing curve. By tuning your webers , I assume you mean rejetting ? , that's going to be the one thing I'll find the most daunting. There's a lot of info out there , but it appears to be a trial and error process.
  14. More pics..
  15. Hi Matty , Not a lot see at the moment. Wheeled her out for some work today. Test fitted a new radiator. Nothing fancy but it will do the job. As you can see the old one had seen better days. I have cleaned the front up a little. New bumper , repainted the grille. Also removed the light covers for now . I think I prefer the look without them , but will have to get the screws dealt with. Also replaced the fuel pump , I am now certain the old one was having issues. The increase in volume is significant. All I need now is a motor.
  16. Thanks , awesome information guys. I have been researching Facet solid state fuel pumps. Logic ( and my knowledge of plumbing ) would tell me to buy the 6-9 psi model and couple it with an adjustable regulator under the bonnet. The most exciting part ( yes I know.... it's sad ) is that the Facet pump claims to be able to draw from a 12 inch head height , versus the Mallory , who's instructions say it should be located as close to, if not lower than the feed line. Considering my current pump is clearly at least 8 inches above the draw line the Facet pump looks very appealing. Unless anyone tells me otherwise , I will be ordering a couple of Facets tomorrow .
  17. Yea , thought I might be pushing my luck on that question Will hopefully only have it at my place for another week or two ( so maybe half a Sunday left to play around ). Will let the workshop sort it out. Cheers all.
  18. Cheers everyone. I'm going to follow it up with another silly question. I am going to be fitting triple webers , will this setup provide me with the correct fuel pressure I need ? , My understanding is that I need 3 to 5 psi ( please correct me if I am wrong ). I am sure the workshop I using will be able to test it , but if I can save time ( money ) changing the setup myself , then I will do so.
  19. Cheers Scoota , I think your spot on. I just pulled the cover off and its not a pump. Please excuse my ignorance ( as I haven't researched the answer to this question ), but what role does it play ? I can see by its direction of flow that it feeds from the pumps outlet back into the pumps feed line. Thanks , Robert
  20. Hi All , My recently acquired car has no mechanical pump , so while the engine is out I decided to have a look at my electric fuel pump and see if it could do with a clean/service. Now after taking it out I am a little confused by the setup. Why would there be two pumps connected in parallel ? , a backup pump maybe ? The larger pump is a Mallory series 70 , which my research shows is a 70gph pump , running at either 4 or 6psi. I can't seem to tell exactly which one it is because it only has the model number 4070 , not 4070LP( 4psi ) or 4070M( 6psi ). The smaller pump is labelled as a Nikki ( Type SB-10 ) , is this the original ? I would have thought that the Mallory would be more capable ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Hi All , Well it's been a long time between posts , nearly 3 months in fact, so I thought I should hop online and update my current situation. Between Work,Life and "the car" it's been a crazy few months. Well , obviously, I have my new toy. And I will start by saying that I am very happy with the overall condition of the car. Even though I never got to see the car in person it is exactly as described by the previous owner. No nasty surprises or hidden secrets. Thank you Alex. It took me about 3-4 weeks to get the car registered, nothing major, a little rust and some minor fixups. So hows the car going ?....... Well a picture is work a thousand words they say , so I have posted a few ( hopefully , new to this ). Now I assure you it did turn up with an engine I know I posted above , somewhat foolishly, that I didn't intend on initially spending a lot of money. Well..... When I got the car the headers had a small hole in them and a leak at the head , so I thought I might as well replace them. And hey, while I'm there the carbies probably need a freshen up also , well... while I have them off I might as well have someone pull the entire engine out and give it a complete rebuild. I mean it's only logical ( Well that's what I told the better half ) All up I drove the car for 3 days , and have spent the last 4 weeks waiting for the workshop to begin work ( they assure me they will begin in a couple of weeks ). I have decided to keep the original engine. I know many out there will say, replace it with an L28! , but honestly I'm happy to keep the L26 , if all I wanted was a more powerful car I certainly wouldn't have sold the 350 to buy a 260. But with that said I am going to get the compression increased, a mild cam installed and maybe some headwork ( budget permitting ). I would also like to say , Great site people !, I have spend the last few months trawling over as much info as possible. In fact I haven't had to ask any questions because most have already been answered. , well that was until I pulled my electric fuel pump off this morning. So I will post a question in the relevant forum shortly. p.s. - I have since fixed my number plate mount. It wasn't until I took a photo that I realised the mounting tabs were bent.
  22. Cheers Matty , joining a local car club sounds like a good idea. Give me a few weeks to get the car sorted out and I'll come along to a meeting. I assume they list meeting details on their Facebook page ?
  23. I'll be going for full rego , as I will be using it as my daily drive. Wow , just realised looking at the photo's on your write-up again , that I am sure I have seen your car before. It was parked on the side of the road near the Hooper centre on Hume St ( as shown in one of your photo's ). I can tell you I drove past at about 12:10pm, as I do every day on my way to lunch, and at the time you had the bonnet up. I had my 350 at the time. The funny thing is, when you asked if I had maybe seen your car around , that I actually thought of this incident , but thought it might be a bit cheeky to suggest that it was yours I saw on the side of the road broken down
  24. Cheers Matty , just had a look at your write up , very nice !. Where did you end up sourcing your engine ? , and how long have you had your zed ? Thanks Peter , I certainly will enjoy. I saw in the Events section about the Toowoomba run , hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be in a position to do the same.
