  1. The main issue/reason I had to modify the vent hose was that my original tank only had one vent... all the photos I have seen of the original 240z tanks had two vents... generally 1 being at the top right (rear) and the other being middle on the far left of the tank. Thus the system was always meant to have two.. not sure why mine did not. I'm open to ideas and suggestions on this - whether other peoples 240z fuel tanks have one or 2 vents and what size they are?? Lurch - does yours have an evaporation canister that the system all plumbs to or straight to the rubber fuel filler hose?
  2. Quick update on this one. Firstly I never mentioned I was doing this as my 240z tank was only 40L... I think many are but all the sites I see mention it's a 60L tank (but mine definately was not). The installation itself would be difficult to use an original fuel vent hose, because of the additional fuel vent coming from this tank. There is limited room, and to cut the original vent tube squeeze in the additional brass section with T piece etc was going to prove tricky. The only thing missing from the photos is an additional 90 degree brass elbow which connects the tubing back into the car to the fuel filler. I also angled the vent tubing in the photo below slightly downwards (not the way it is in the second photo), to line everything up correctly as the vent hose from the car comes through a metal "tube" so it is already angled as it comes through to the fuel tank area... hope that makes sense. So so far it all seems to fit and mount correctly, I might need to play around with the position a little to get it just right. The only thing that seems to have been just a little off was the short strap on the left hand side. Larger tank = larger straps, but the one of the left was almost a little too long and the original strap wouldn't reach. I've used a thicker piece of rubber insulation (between the tank and the metal strap to correct this). Let me know if I've missed something out or questions if I can answer I will.
  3. Thanks ScottyD - that's great info and photos. Really appreciate the effort. Jason
  4. Scotty D, can I confirm in the photo you have posted, that the top right corner is the spare wheel well and that the hose exits on the left and comes back into the car to the fuel filler hose? As I'm measuring everything up it all seems very tight (even using the actual OEM hose) to make this all fit properly. I'm sure it will just take a bit of tinkering but the more info the better. cheers Jason
  5. Anyone want to chime in with some advice before I try to mount the larger fuel tank in? (Yes I will seal the large hole in the top, previous owner cut open to put baffles but had sealed it with a cork gasket, metal plate, screws and flexible fuel resistant silastic). Tank itself is slightly longer, slightly deeper and has an additional vent pipe. From the looks of it, should be ok. May be a little close with the exhaust, I will know more when I loosely mount it in. Using longer straps and planning on using a 2 into 1 connector to combine the 2 vent pipes into the original that goes to the fuel filler. Any suggestions on what tank it is from, originally I thought a 260z but I now feel it may be from a 280zx?? Cheers
  6. Thanks guys I'll check them out
  7. Hey everyone just wondering what people have used as a fuel tank vent hose (from the tank to the fuel filler)... I've got the tank out and just as a matter of course, replacing the hoses. As it's a larger size than the fuel lines themselves just wondering if it's a simple trip to supercheap etc? cheers

    Semi Slick Tyres

Thanks for the info everyone - I'll look into the A050's. St George tyres will be close by so I'll give them a go as well. Really appreciate the tip - nothing worse than spending good money for crap service. Cheers Jason

    Semi Slick Tyres

Hi everyone, Any recommendations of a good tyre place on where I can buy a set of semi slick tyres for a 16" rim (205/45 - 205/55)? Or if anyone has some they want to sell? Also any suggestions on brand? Anywhere between Newcastle and Sydney Cheers
  10. Great info everyone. A wealth of knowledge as always. Mick if you could measure the 09's that would be great. From the sounds of it no difference in height in the rears but it would be great to confirm they are about 285mm both sides. Also while they are out of the car could you confirm the rough diameter of the entire spring (not the metal coil) - approx 115mm I think. cheers
  11. Hi everyone, just a couple of questions regarding spring free length. In the 240z manual, it mentions different lengths (left vs right) for the front springs. Is this the case with the rear springs as well? I found a reference on the this site to King Springs which is what Is currently installed on my car: KDFL - 08 = 305mm free length KDRL - 09 = 285mm free length Anyone have a set lying around to measure (interested to know if there is any difference between left and right both front and rear). Cheers
  12. About 5 years ago I walked into Nissan spare parts and asked for this 3 way pipe along with the pipe that ran around the back of the engine. We found the part numbers on the microfiche and he ordered them for straight on the spot... not sure if anyone can still try Nissan themselves. Gav as for the pipe you're talking about, I think it may be much faster to find a suitable pipe, buy new screw plug fasteners, and go to a brake shop and get them to flare the ends of the pipe with the fasteners on it. I doubt anyone would pick up that it's not original once it's been used for a while - obviously just want a metal that can take the heat and not expand/contract too much.
  13. JE pistons great to deal with - Don't go through Rebello racing (I was sent the wrong product, got an apology, then they offered to fix the error if I returned the pistons to them at my own cost, or get them fixed here and they would cover costs. Gave them the cost to fix there mistake and they refused to pay, stopped answering emails and abused me on the phone!)
  14. May have later model straps (ie 260/280). I am pretty sure they had 60L tanks and therefore longer straps

    How to measure max bore

Hey Dave, I used one ages ago - seemed to be accurate as best I could tell. The booklet has figures for each material that you are working with, they seemed to be pretty close. Before measuring the bore I used a digital vernier caliper (from memory where there was space in the water jacket at either cylinder 1 or 6) to get an accurate reading. Then dialled in the ultra sonic tester (you can adjust it) to get it exact. I haven't had anyone confirm my results though but when I came back a week later to run the test again it gave me the same results throughout all the bores, so at least it's consistent. Good luck
  16. Yep - fuel rail!!
  17. The only vapour lock I ever suffered with SUs wasn't because of the carbs it was the metal fuel line running around the engine. Mine didn't have any heat shielding around them. As soon as I insulated them I never had that issue again (including on the track)
  18. I can't speak on the heat soak, I thought the SUs had a heat shield in place to help prevent that. From my limited understanding the concept of this system was actually to get heat into the carbies faster during their first start up of a morning (bringing them up to temperature, particularly in colder climates) so that they behaved rather than requiring prolonged use of the choke.
  19. Others opinions will vary for sure - after I removed mine I ran it for years without it with no problems. Just remember to block the pipe so you don't lose all the coolant
  20. Gav, when I took mine off years ago before I switched to triples it was a nightmare similar to this story. Had to cut the pipe so I could get a socket onto it as spanners/shifter was only burring it. My pipe was filled of brown gunk so the water wasn't even running between the carbs
  21. Do you have a photo please and price
  22. I've been to Nissan several times and purchased these cogs. Somewhere on this site (I'm pretty sure under the gearbox section) is a list of part numbers for either the whole pinion assembly or just the cog itself.
  23. It outlines what power I gained from changing things, including induction. If we are straying off topic your right, let's lighten the car and change diffs!
