Hi One of the plans I had when building my bus was to end up with a car that I could take on serious road trips, not just Sunday drives. I have friends or family in most states and have always enjoyed the experience of driving long distances. As most of you would know I transplanted the engine (inc EFI) and gearbox from 280ZX that had sat in a carport untouched since 2002 into a bus that Lockie had done all the body work on. add in a diff change, some suspension work and a thousand other little things and I had a running registered car. Since getting it back on the road I have done a lot of miles but have never strayed more than 100ks from home - just in case. Then about a month back Lurch invited to come down to Yarragon for the weekend. Initially I was going to take the work car, but then I thought why not take the bus ? After all it could do with a good shakedown run. What is the worse that could happen : So after checking over the vital parts of the car, I hit road, destination Yarragon. For the first few hundred Ks I was waiting for something to go bang and all forward motion to cease. Once I got that the first few hundred Ks behind me I started to relax and just enjoy the drive. The Z is truly a great open road car.The day rolls by and next thing I know I am closing in Yarragon having faced beautiful sunshine, torrential rain, fog and just about everything the weather can offer. The car never missed a beat. Had great weekend, including a visit to Phillip Island, then jumped in the bus and headed back to Sydney. By the time I got home the car had done 2,000+ Ks using about 11litres / 100ks and didn't miss a single beat. You just can't beat the reliability of the L series. Loving the Z experience, starting to think about the next trip. Cheers PB

What really gets me is that they have been available for 7 years, and only now is it announced that they don't comply. Shouldn't they have been checked went first offered for sale ?

That is exactly what I have done. The socket is neatly attached to handlebars, by having it on the handlebars it is a visible reminder to unplug it before riding off.

I overlooked that comment Sounds more and more like a intake vacuum leak to me. What impact does the choke have on the engine when it is hot ? But without having the car in front of me I am only guessing

I though about Warren's stock as well, but for me the bigger problem would be getting a realistic handle on exactly what he has, what condition it is in and finally, what is it worth ?? He warehouse is a virtual rabbits warren (no pun intended) of parts both new and used.

That is why, if looking for NOS a country dealer is a better bet. They don't have the same real estate costs for storage and, as a generalization, are less inclined to dump stock based on an aging policy.

It never ceases to amaze me what NOS is lying around. Only last week I was at a dealer who had a pile of old Landcruiser 40 stuff he has had for 30 odd years. There is a big time window between being current stock and sort after NOS. Unfortunately the cost of storing this stock often outweighs the financial benefit for the dealer.

Hi Mate If the fuel system checks out I would be looking at things that are effected by heat or expand when hot. Gaskets, coil and leads for starters Love these more challenging ones. Cheers PB

Are you worried about it moving forward in an accident ?Maybe put a pice of solid plywood or similar behind the seats and rest it against that, or if travellng alone Run the passenger seat all the way forward and see if it fits in the well behind the seat

Haha What ever you call it - Devon, Polony or Fritz, it could make for an aromatic engine bay when hot.

Hi That listing is for a BAY15d socket, the most commonly used for twin filament bulbs in cars. When it comes to tail, turn & brake lights BA15s and BAY15d are the standard ones for cars of the vintage of our Z's The image below shows what the standard BA fittings are, choose the one you need then search ebay using the BA code.

I would also look for inlet manifold leaks. If all else fails do a compression test, well two of them actually - One when cold and the second when hot.

Yeah, agree it is a urethane or similar product. Not actual leather.

Hi Ian When looking at cars of this age I pay minimal attention to mileage, it is all about condition. That is unless the car has exceptionally low and beyond question mileage Cheers PB
