  1. Gordo = Aero King Seeing that PI is your playground then it's certainly worth a try, what plans for ducting to provide air cooling for the transmission? NACA ducts may work.
  2. "I know, madness, but point out one thing I have done that wouldn’t have me committed to a psychiatric ward by any purist S30 lover." If we keep the above admission by the builder himself then this project starts to make sense I'm just going to observe from now on, there is a lesson here somewhere lol.
  3. The Z31 has a similar steering shaft with what appears to be the same spline size as the S30, 280ZX too and the S chassis models as well, I suspect. Certainly the S15 does so overall steering shaft length could be the only variable.
  4. OE ones aren't available from Nissan? I got one for the 280ZX but that was a while ago.
  5. That's a neat looking unit Justin, thanks for the advice. It will be for my Z31 race car project so space and bracing will not be a problem, the dash will be skeletonised and a structural crossbar installed. And of course the engineer will be me
  6. Thanks Lurcher, for anyone interested this crowd http://www.rallywiz.com/Shop/index.phphave lots of relevant parts.
  7. Definately going to fit something like what's available here http://www.ultimatepowersteering.com.au/categories/electric-power-steering/epas-systemsto the Z31 project, what sort of systems have the more adventurous fitted to their Z cars? The advantages for me will be more forward space for the engine's sump against the rack, no PS oil cooling radiator, no PS pump to complicate the engine accessories arrangement, no hoses and so on. I was going to check out electric systems at the wreckers but I like the idea of having the motor on the steering shaft, are there any OE ones like that?
  8. R31 pads are those squarish ones aren't they, pretty much the same size through to the Z32? I use them on a ventilated disc Z32 spec, no problem at all on the race track. They, like all pads, will only have excessive heat problems if the disc is too small for the job.
  9. Put wings on an fly it to me?
  10. Like the new wheels, very period correct. Also like the extra blue paint, handy to brand those wandering 911's
  11. The Z31 project will be much closer to a full on race car than this one Aub but even then it won't be anywhere near a full spec Sports Sedan. Basically I build to suit myself and not to any rules formula, all this car needs now to reach my idea of it's peak is to get the auto fully sorted and stop it wagging the tail at every opportunity, which could be just tyres. My greatest enjoyment is to get some build detail right and to drive a nicely balanced powerful car that I have created.
  12. Pretty sure there will be a pic of it somewhere in my build thread. Let's have a look. Here we go, there are two blue/green ones which work off the shifter lever. Different to the PeterH one, these have a spring arm with a little roller on the end so when the arm is pushed in the switch works. First pic on this page http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11879-richards-620zx-coupe/page-12
  13. Sports Sedans and 2A Sports cars class are basically a catch all eg the one I out dragged has a space frame, mid mounted engine and lightweight panels. At MP I voluntarily enter this Zed as a Sports Sedan, not that it really is one but because it has a V8 in it. Even the wing has been taken off.
  14. Your suggestion noted thanks Aub. The dash and control area is looking a bit of a mess now, everything is functional but it's what happens when you start off with a road car and then progressively mod it to be something else.
  15. Looks like it may have been used as a 'rally' car which would explain the odd paint, damage etc. Rails under would be buggered I guess.
  16. Try Ebay, I got a pack of three from a local seller about six months ago.
  17. A couple of pics showing the box I made to enclose the shift mechanism, note the flip lock out in place when using sequential shift only. In the top right corner of the pics see the beaut gear number indicator light which reads from one to four. Have a new set of Hankook soft Z214's on order, the Hoosiers are absolutely well past their heat cycle limits. As far as the auto goes, during the last sprints I was able to out drag a MANUAL light weight V8 engined sports sedan from a standing start after shifting to second early because wheel spin. Torque multiplication for the win. Otherwise the auto is still a work in progress, waiting for the next MP practice day to take some data. Basically I'm leaning how to program the TCU myself, will need that skill for Bathurst because MP is too short to properly test fourth gear and the TCC.
  18. Crikey, that colour has come up great.
  19. Results are official now, several great results here. Aussies owning the event, 240's smashing everything and Porkers not able to handle the pace. Win, win, win
  20. Yep, Pickering/Boddy are ~45 minutes ahead so barring accidents or terrorists they should hold first place. Looks like Dave Gainer will finish up 4th so, counting chickens, a great result for the Zeds.
  21. I'm not going to try to guess, if it was all assembled even not running it would be worth a lot more. Otherwise potential buyers are going to look at it as a collection of parts.
  22. Unless you want to do a lot of the work yourself then get something already done. Most go for the mod themselves option because they can, plus it's cheaper to start. Anything else makes no value for money sense. There are not a lot of people looking for modded Zeds therefore it's a bit of a buyers market for you to take advantage of.
  23. That's good Enzo, after trying a lot of the import oils I now use only Penrite. Priced right plus they have some good synthetic options, once again at a reasonable price.
