  1. I had a play with this car on the weekend. It sounds hotter than ..... I don't know what, but it sounds REALLY hot.
  2. Lurch, not The weekend after easter but a weekend after easter. I'd never be available on the last weekend before school goes back. To be honest I'm quite taken a back by this amazingly generous offer. Thanks guys for even thinking of it. I got some good advice last night from PeterMc so after my sleep today, I'll get the crank out and then should be able to give the block a golly good wash. MaygZ
  3. Without a word of a lie, it would be great to see you guys and even better to see you do some bodywork on the old girl (Zed that is). A weekend after easter?? It was good to catch up. Dimitris beast has given me some inspiration.
  4. Once you are able to get some fluid through your lines, I recommend flushing them with metho. Metho will pick up any water left in the lines and take it away, whilst petrol will coat it and leave it in the lines. Some metho in your fuel tank, after draining it, will remove any water and take it through the lines and burn it (in the motor). It is a cheap and effective way to get water out of the system. MaygZ
  5. Well the engine is all but striped now. Was happy to find flat top pistons. There is still some cross hatching in the bores, so all Good on that front. No lip on the top of the cylinders, so the pistons slipped out nicely. It appears the motor has been rebuilt at some stage as the end caps had been number stamped. I need advice in two areas: all the big ends are 24mm wide except the centre one which is 30mm. Is this normal?? What it means at the moment is that I can't get it out as there is no room to tilt it. Any ideas please? The other is much smaller; does anyone now of a good cleaning product that will clean the baked on oil gases off the inside of the rocker cover, top of the head, conrods, etc? Those that know me know I like things shiny.
  6. Benny, is this the one from John. The one that took hours to convince him to sell?
  7. If Lurch is too far away or too busy working on mine, you could PM ScootaG and see if he's available.
  8. Just doing some research into what is required to complete this build ..... You are going to need a VERY impressive shed with all the goodies you can find. Just building the shed and amassing the toys (tools) will be great fun. Please post some photos of your shed as well as the cars. MaygZ
  9. Welcome aboard Sarge. Sounds like it will be an awesome weapon. Good luck. There is a 280ZX Ferrari GTO replica with that transplant. Google may give you some guidance. I don't know of anyone here who has been that brave as yet.
  10. Scoota, have you pulled the master cylinder apart? What was wrong with it?
  11. It might not be the colour (yeah right). It might be that it's an AUTO!!
  12. Topstage, I can't help you with supplying a cold air box, or even recommend which one to get, BUT when all those that know about these things can get a sample or measurements to you, I want one from you. Seriously guys, I've heard some VERY good things about Topstage's work. Please get a sample of a good box to him, so he can build us all an airbox. Please. MaygZ
  13. Most of the rear calipers were air, so when the pressure was released the air would expand faster than fluid would - as air compresses much more than fluid and then rapidly expands to take up much more volume. Thus a roster tail of fluid back in the reservoir. The calipers need to be bled while unmounted or have a bleed valve tapped into the top of them. I know I'd tap in a new valve as it means they could be bled easier and more often: ie after/before each race.
  14. The reading doesn't matter. It's the difference in the readings that matter. If they all end up much closer in value, it indicates a ring failure in the cylinders that were already low. If they all go up by about the same amount, it indicates a valve issue. Just give each cylinder a good squirt and give it a try. I don't know, but someone here will, if all the L28's had steel valve seats ie are suitable for unleaded. If not you may have burnt a valve?? Something to consider.
  15. John, the master cylinder was fine. We had a problem with the rear bleed nipples being on the bottom of the caliper! :'(
  16. And then attend your local hospital. The skin may grow back, but your will never again feel the soft skin of a woman!
  17. Thanks Scottz, that's a really interesting read. It highlights to me the 'disposable' attitude of the US at the time.
  18. 21 today 21 today. Happy birthday Scoota Gerald. See you tonight. MaygZ
  19. I think he was referring to the less cerebral of the Simons I like shiny things. Very nice.
  20. Are you running with a heat shield between exhaust and your carbies? You may be boiling fuel in the lines or even the bowls? MaygZ Edit: Now that I have read the below post - stuck choke throttles is the more likely.
  21. I don't know why these mere mortals want to take on Simons. Love the pistons and rods. We need to talk. What is it with you guys and all this 'had laying around' stuff. You've all got way too much money.
  22. Moderators, could you please edit Matt's post to reflect Scottz post or atleast add a warning to contact via phone before purchase. I checked the site and it still allows purchase. I hate to hear of blokes getting bitten. It's almost impossible to get a website pulled, unless their activity was illegal to start with.
  23. Now that would be an expensive pet!! Love your cats Ben.
  24. I guess that was what Khama (sorry about the dirty word) was all about
