  1. Ya wanna read all the opposing discussion over on the various dirt rally forums. These guys are getting rammed down their throughts, " comply or dont compete" That will filter through to other CAMS sport diciplines. As it has already done so. Already the specific regulation has had one rather confusing amendment by CAMS.
  2. He's only on that number part time, it'll just ring out if he's not at Moorabbin. Just try later, or the next day, usually from about 10.30 am. He'll be doing coffee with some of the other fellas nearby. Patience is the key,,,,,
  3. Quite a few of the aftermarket 4x4 accessory shops did kits for the boxy MQ Nissan Patrols, running these engines in atmo form, a complete bolt on low pressure turbo kit, but you're talking early to mid 1980's and could be hard to find the kits. A turbo exhaust manifold ex USA running the old T3 or T4 Garrett, into a blow through carb was the usual. A bit more modern would be a injection intake complete off a 280ZX as sold here, in Aus, at low 5-7 psi, no intercooler, would not stress the LD at all. It is a slow revving torque monster, dont expect snappy gear changes or breakneck push in the back acceleration.
  4. Bhj do a "street" and a race unit. Rebello had nothing to do with the Race unit, it is a derivative of a small block Chev bal. The one pictured looks to be a bonded unit, ie "street" They do both a single and a twin groove in the better Race units I run a couple of their single groove. Approx cost around $800 or so Aud. For your application, go for an ATI brand or slightly lesser, a Ross tufbond. There are various models in their ranges. Have your crank nose machined for a full length keyway. Do not rely on the std little Gibb key. And use the longer thread version of the crank pulley bolt, make sure threads are very thouroghly cleaned.
  5. If the FIA and F1 bosees had listened to their drivers, the likes of Senna, and many others may well still be with us. It is advancements, in safety, construction, etc of cars, As well as safety being buot into the tracks. Some tracks are pretty good, other tracks, not so, and especially with the greater ability for armchair warriors to physically get access to tracks, there are more incidents occuring. Plenty of incidents in rolling start events all over the world, these have been conducted for many years, nothing new there. There are some categories that run Rolling at quite a few CAMS events, around Australia, have been for some time, all at the massed drivers requests, and yes, CAMS listen and agree to them.
  6. Go for it! Do it! Excellent idea! They'll be perfect mint factory cars there! Please do come back on and, in great detail, let us know the costs involved, the costs to fly over and back, and in locating, inspecting, etc. The time involved etc. Vs, waiting for the 1/2dozen very very nice ones that come up for sale here each year. They are becoming up to 40 years old now, they wont be perfect, just like a us as we get old.
  7. A great many of us will take umbrage at being legislated to do what we feel we dont need or want. Fact There are not very many on this forum that race, but many that participate in one car at a time/lap, or side by side lapdash against a clock, or the string of 10-15 cars proceeding out and around for 5 laps of a circuit. You get both types of incident, one where another vehicle is involved, and one where one vehicle is involved, the end result of either type can vary greatly, from the barest minimum, to the destructive, and fatal. In a race situation, there is so much more going on, and those that actually do it, as opposed to the armchair/keyboard types, will have a greater understanding of why CAMS are bringing this requirement into effect. Some sprints/lapdash/hillclimbers, will "get" it, some wont. I have a HANS, i dont like it, the discipline in which I race, i feel it is not needed, we know our fellow competitors, our cars, it is a small group ( some events there are up to 50 on track in the one grid! ). In 2013, approx 1 in 15 wore a HANS. The majority are grumbling negatively about "being told what to do" That will happen.
  8. Whack em on. In a Datto you have room for some trumpets, fit these, about 50 mm, go for a larg filter box type thingy, not four foam socks, they muck up airflow. The 2TG is a 1600 If so the carbs will prob need next size up main jet, if fitting to a L20B A L18 should be fine. Run an Oxy sniffer on wide band, well up the exhaust, do some under load pulls, the sensor readouts will be all over the place, but you are looking for averages of 14:1 Being 40's, you will get very good airflow speed into motor, and good consistent atomisation of fuel in the air.
  9. Need to bear in mind, in an "at the track" situation, if you say, push camber out, the rims will toe in, and caster will decrease. Not ideal. If wanting to get it right, do a track day with the car set to an adjustment, both front and rear. Concentrate on how the car "feels" through your bottom, and what steer/throttle input is required, once you master the track, usually in the second last session. Have a notebook, written in will be the suspension settings, now fill in tyres, sizes, rims, pressures, pressure when cold, and when hot. Also make written notes on how the car "feels" Think of a corner as being three parts, ie 3rds, Entry, Mid, Exit. Note braking points, off the brake, turn in points, how wide from apex, where you actually apexedetc. Then go home. Change suspension settings next track day, repeat above. That is the correct way to get it right. 35 years of experience and doing it, dont come cheap, i'll accept your payment via bank deposit!!! Go buy the book, "How to make your car handle" by Fred Puhn. It may be old, but it is still very valud today.
  10. It was common to simply drill new holes on each side up 15mm and outwards 15mm this gave around 1 deg of neg camber and kept the lca at a desirable downward angle, when fitting lowered springs. Fitting 12 mm of washers on the wheel side of the dompression strut would give approx 1.5deg more caster. Combine then with a repositioned strut top, smaller diam springs, another 1/2 deg of neg camber, then bend the stubs upwards a bit, You've gone from 1.5 deg positive camber to 2.5 deg neg camber. These items as in your pist are only good, if they can be positevely locked into the final position, so they will not suddenly partially rotate. Dont expect the mousture absorbing ( hydroscopic) polyurethan to last long. Nissan used to supply stiffer competition rubber bushes, now NLA, but they can be remanufactured inn the harder rubber compound.
  11. 3mm is all it needs to be, but mate it with the higher vol pump, and pack behind the press relief spring, 3-4mm of washers. Thhey dont need cross drilling to crank, unless extreme race use, and dry sumped with much bigger volume and flow rates. Windage trays, trapdoor baffles and wings on the sump help certainly in large fast sweeping bends
  12. Not all the oil passes through a filter, the blocks run a bypass, so yes, any crud left in after a rebuild, or other bits of "stuff" will eventually find its way between two bits of metal bearings, or, block a oil feed hole. Now, re drill and tapping the main oil gallery, take carefull note of the very small oil feed hole right at the end of the large gallery. Do not screw a full size plug in, to be flush with the block end face, as this will block THAT oil feed hole. Modify the screw in plug, file a bit off each side, you dont need a full depth Allen wrench hole. The next oil feed hole, is the one on top of block, this needs drilling out as it feeds oil up into head. Combined with the L28T high vol pump, this ensures more oil up top.
  13. Racing? Or Regularity.
  14. Do what Dave1600 did. You are way overthinking your comp ratios. Yes flat tops, longer 133 mm rods, a low cost piston look at Isuzu G200 units, and machine top off to suit final deck height. Use regular type head gasket, no need for MLS or big bore /oversize type gasket, If you want to chase higher comp on a n42 head, either a heavy shave ( 2-3 mm) and fit the twin gear timing chain tensioner setup, Or, weld it up,. Yes the PMC /Les sourced upper head stuff is better than the rest out there, and fairly easy to get.
  15. Between 4 to 6 degrees down.
  16. It'll foul,,,,,,,,, Go for 15"'s with a 225/50 tyre. Better for suspension geometry and just clears.
  17. Have plenty, std and Turbo. Pm'ed you!
  18. As long as the spring is physically captured by both top and bottom spring perch/seats, you will not have any issue, both with driving and inspections. On 260 struts for circuit use, the spring perches can be repisitioned 20-30 mm lower, rewelded on, lower height linear rate coils, (270 lb or higher) and, rather than tie wire or cable ties, a pair of small metal tabs, welded to edge of spring perch, and eased over the seated coil, is pretty well foolproof.
  19. What, like as in a car and crew combo that say, won outright the NSW State Rally Championships, or placed Fourth outright, against international crews at Rally Australia. A home grownn Aussie effort !!
  20. I'm running the good Stew ones, with a fuelie mani, no problems there. I'm happy with it. Sumwun buy it !
  21. Visited them a while back, not a huge place, very hard to find, lots of very nice bits in the glass display cabinets, and the drag car chassis. Did get to go out back into the workshop, very typical ie a bit messy, shelves loaded with boxes and bits, and some S20 twin cam 432 engines, but they were not for sale!
  22. watch though, some were a 63A model, the bells are very different
  23. YES It is the same front bell. Follow the instructions on this site re drilling/machining etc. It bolts on and in.

    QLD LAPZ 2014

Entries dribbling in at rapid fire pace Aub? I'm back early April, should be right, dunno what car but, nice to know the Mazda's are OK to run,,,, hehehe,,,,,
  25. These plates in Qld cost, to buy, aporox $2500 now?? Crazy price compared to down south. Some Qld combinations you can make a lot of profit, if it is desirable, ie FORD, or CHEVY, We probably wont see the op again, but would be interesting to hear the backstory on how/why they got FAST Z. Also, an indication of what price OP would like to achieve, with a o.n.o.! So we dont get the "swapz for vl commy and pack of Winnie Blues" offers!
