Join the queue! You're fourth on the list! As usual with QR/Lakeside events, the vast majority enter within the final two weeks, ie not keen to enter months in advance, A small pre-commitment payment, as has been done with other events elsewhere may work? The 20 entries , assuming, would have been the usual gaggle of Morgan Parkers, the rest would have been the Maybe's and the Last Minuters. What is QR now charging to hire Lakeside, last i heard, $15.000 a day. Divide that among 60, it gets very pricey per entrant. Better to tack onto a pre planned Sprints day, and buy a "grid" or two, ie 15-30 cars, much less financial risk. Suggested before, but no intersts, oh well. Are HANS going to be required by all Sprints entrants at MP for a National event in 2015? Whats that gonna do for entry numbers! Be a real shame if red tape and rules gets in the way.

So Lapz was never going to happen? Prac day for Top Gear racing next day would not be able to fit the events proposed. I'm racing at the two QR and one Lakeside meetings later in year, Hysterics/TranzAms/Clubmans Gp N and Gp S&T, No need for CAMS licence!

Bugger. Maybe lack of entries? Any mention whether it will still be a Lakeside Sprints day?

Coolant Flush - Tap/Distilled/Rain water?
dat2kman replied to gav240z's topic in General Maintenance
Or Penrite Sin Coolant. Same formulation. No ethylene glycol ( do our suburban city cars need anti freeze??) -
Umm, there were Zeds in that race, i ( me !) was well up front, he had a rear of grid start, back in pos 50? He was having dramas/dnf's that weekend. There is amother vid where again, rear of grid start, but race was few laps longer, he got me down Conrod on last lap, to finish fourth. Them big fellas sure do suck you over when they scoot past!

Coolant Flush - Tap/Distilled/Rain water?
dat2kman replied to gav240z's topic in General Maintenance
More to the point, after flushing, What new coolant are you going to use? Something Ethylene Glycol based, that acts as an insulator/barrier thus preventing efficient heat transfer from the metal to the cooling fluid? Or something more efficient. -
Yesterday afternoon, 4pm at Perth Airport, a massive Russian Antonov air carrier, loaded up all rally cars, service vehicles, event vehicles for the flight to Ankara, where the Europe leg will start. Two days ago, the crews were thrown onto what was described as a "Horror dtage" Details are vague, but four or five front running crews, including at least one Z, were classified as DNF the stage. Nothing new here, the old Repco Around Australia events would often have these near impossible stages, just to stop the event being a procession drive. They were car killers.

Your fuel pump is delivering the fuel? Are spark plugs wet/smell of fuel after you have cranked it and pressed accel pedal twice only?

Output at back of Alt will depend on wether it has an inbuilt Reg, or external reg. What model/type Alt is it? Your other issue is you may have a voltage drain affecting the battery, or the battery, at a few months of age, if it has been fully discharged, could now have a faulty cell. If you cant get the car to a Auto sparky, try a Battery World shop, they'll test it and let you know whats going on.

Whack on a set of proper semi slicks, no not the ones 99% of tyre shops tell you they are "semis" Run those at pressures that allow the sidewall to flex, keeping tread fully on road surface. See what its like then!

FHR (HANS) Devices becoming mandatory for CAMs events now....
dat2kman replied to PZG302's topic in Racing Your Car
As an aside, i have jacked up at payingthe CAMS licence fee, and medical costs, to do just ONE pharquing race meeting in 2014 Some $450 I can pay $200 to QRO ( note this isnt AASA anymore) and race, not sprints, but door to door, at three "historic" intent meetings in 2014. Why bother with CAMS? They know there is an issue re members leaving, but it is a "local" ie Queensland thing, and do not care about losing a hundred or so members. -
FHR (HANS) Devices becoming mandatory for CAMs events now....

Quick heads up, as this site has no Sporting Affiliation with CAMS, ie is not a car club with affiliation, CAMS has no interest or compulsion to monitor the site. However,,,,, There are clubs with CAMS affil, that have websites/forums, with decent member number bases, that CAMS does actually monitor, and they, amazingly, sometimes listen to their members, and act. Hence the recent amendment to the FHR rules recently re-written, allowing the short term use of some, not all, but some of the alternate FHR units. The drama with SFI standards, as far as FIA goes, is the testing procedures are not the "same" and the dating of life of items is not the same. ROPS ( cages) are a different ballgame, i strongly feel that the RPS unit should tie into front towers via firewall, and there should be more triangulation, less thicker heavier barring, but not all ROPS builders are conversant with FEA modelling or construction. That then gives rise to the "cant teach old dog new tricks, or even change his spots" as far as the heirarchy and the way CAMS operates, or lays down their laws. The FIA as well as the USA bodies, and even MSNZ, ARE flexible, will listen, and do sometimes "get" what their members/competitors are on about. The recent diatribe from the new CAMS CEO, in regards to the top levels of motorsport in Aus, has very much peeved many people off, those at the grassroots, ie us lot. But we are stuck with them, its a private club, you cant vote them out, or call for replacements. -
Get two engine stands, the ones with a rotating plate. Start from there

Transworld Events, something like that, Or google Sydney to London 2014 They wont have current updates but pretty close. Quite a few Zeds in the event!

FHR (HANS) Devices becoming mandatory for CAMs events now....

Unfortunately, there are many scrutineers around, that are so one-eyed, constrained, blinkered, etc, that unless you 100% comply, it's "sorry pal, you are out" They often let a little badge, a yellow vest, or a blue shirt go to their heads far too often. What would enamour a competitor far more, would be, a scrutineer who took you quietly off to one side, explained things, and give you some grace or allowance,,,,, if you are trying to do, or been seen trying to do,, the right thing. Unfortunately, this does no longer happen. It used to, and when i was a scrut, i did this, quite often. The last thing anyone wants is either a argumentative competitor, as well as a little Hitler, it stuffs it up for everyone. All this talk above,,, why dont you form your own motorsport authourity or body, and do things the way you want to, without all this restriction, brick walls, or red tape. Could'nt that hard, surely. -
Have a sqiz at the Porsche group times in Qually! Geoff Morgan in his Historic Group Sc Poky, leading a gaggle of GT3 Cup, and current Porsche cup cars, at 2.40 ! My best was a 2.43 in a little four cylinder. Looking good for weather and number of cars. Only a 240Z and a 350Z in reg grp 1, the 350 is fastest at 2.54 Rest of them should be up soon!

Direct from two of the service crews, for cars running mid field. They are seeing what is occuring out front. Quite a few are treating it as a "sprint" event, rather than a enduro, and are having to rebuild front ends, before even leaving South Australia! Some of these guys are on $$$ limits and may pull out at end of the Australian leg Oh, and BTW, entry fee for the full event, Syd to Lond,,,,,,, $52,000 Yikes!

Mark Pickering is well out in front. On the long stretch over to WA at moment. They were in Burra yesterday. Few Dato1600's couple Stanza's, and quite a few Escorts. Oh and some booming big Mustangs. The stages so far, have been up to 80km's long, all are going hard. Once in Perth, they get airlifted to Akbar in Malaysia, then on car ferrys till the hit the mainland, where the stages get a lot rougher.

Wreckers, from another Datsun, Nissan dealer, fat wallet reqd.

FHR (HANS) Devices becoming mandatory for CAMs events now....
dat2kman replied to PZG302's topic in Racing Your Car
Oh, btw, the FIA has not mandated that FHR items are to be utilised by the general club type sprinter, hillclimber, circuit racer, and dirt rally guts, anywhere in Europe, the UK, or the Middle East/Africa. It's an optional thing, many at the top echelons of the sport do use them. Why not further down,,,,,? The FIA realise that the sheer numbers of competitors would simply dig heels in, and tell the Froggies to go jump. Why Australia,? All to do with insurance premiums and reducing risk to insurance companies, thats simply it. Old mate who runs Lakeside R/way in Qld, a teack CAMS refuses to be involved in, and is accredited as being a dangerous track, now due to zero upgrades in safety implementations, has reduced his expisure to risk, via insurance, by implementing a mandatory FHR requirement. First old mate,,, then who jumps on the horsecart,,,, CAMS! It's not an FIA mandate, they just offer testing, and other admin stuff. Oh, and do we all know the difference between an AS1698 and a Snell rated helmet??? The AS1698 has flammable materials for the lining, Snell, does not allow that. The rest of the helmet, is to the exact same minimum standards. But CAMS wont allow a AS1698 to be used with FHR, as they are adopting the FIA testing, that have simply not tested AS1698 helmets,,,,,, ever! -
Not many have his mobile, I do, due to my relationship re the true original Datsun Sports cars. I'm not at all sure if he will be ok with me giving it out. If you get really really desparate, and you have not heard from him, in say 2-3 weeks time. He is not there full time, Greensbourough to Moorabin is a bit of a drive. If anyone ever gets the opportunity, it is a veritable alladdins cave of a workshop, rather full, but lots of very rare stuff, plenty of L series and other Datsun mechanicals. There are some old historic cars kept there, but these must be hidden under covers, they belong to others. He wanted my to buy the FIA four cyl head, as he knows that i could onsell it to the rally guys!

Carlos Casmiri is well known to a few on here, fairly extensive rally and circuit background, knows his stuff. Not quite a Stew Wilkins.
