  1. Zac, put whatever on your car. I think its unique and generates interest in the marque. I think whats coming out in the wash is the confusion caused when any of us make statements that appear to be facts based on a memory, implication or some combination of 30 year old artefacts that could easily have been swapped multiple times before now. Unless a car is a one owner or unless there is very clear documented evidence it is difficult to be certain on the differences between all the variants delivered all around the world. I think some of those finer details will be lost to the sands of time (therefore not worth arguing over). But at the same time I don't think its a good idea to pass off memories or assumptions as facts. Unless your friend in Texas purchased the car new how can anyone be sure those badges are original? I have never heard of Fairladys in the US market other than a handful of imports. For example I had thought The Fairlady S130 was only a L20? (Anyone know for certain there was an L28 Fairlady S130?). Having just done a search there is a posibility the L28 was an option on the Fairlady. But then again I am just regurgitating memories or assumptions someone else has posted.
  2. Agreed the pickup is an issue but the sump can be solved by keeping the one off the current motor.
  3. Don't laugh, I have a Rebok 280zx........No wait thats only because I've left my old runners in the car so long they have melted into the carpet.
  4. The one on my 240z has no screws. I just use two cable ties to hold it in place.....Just like a bought one.
  5. The CVs are significantly lighter than the Unis (4Kg from memory). So the conversion reduces the vehicle weight and also has the added benefit of reducing unsprung weight.
  6. James, I have a second hand windscreen without cracks if you get stuck for a replacement. It should be an R200 diff. I haven't heard of anyone converting a 260 2+2 back to an R180.

    260Z Wiper Motor

I thought that was standard for all of them. I probably have one up here if you get desperate.

    Waterless coolant

a few of the cars I have pulled apart have been full of sludge and/or calcification and no water.....Does this count?
  10. Good point. Don't get caught out by the catch catch.
  11. I don't think its a difference between the 2 seater and 2+2. I have seen late model 260zs with the same lock mechanism as the 280zx. In other words the earlier models have part of the lock protruding out of the door. The late model 260z and all the 280zx have the lock mechanism flush within the door with just a small openning for the loop/ring to latch into the mechanism.

    WTB Weber chokes

OH, I misread the title. I thought it was obvious Webber always chokes ;-)
  13. Buy a modernish Lancer and put a fibreglass Zed body over the top of it.
  14. I have been using a pair of SVGA quality video glasses since 2010. They are great because there are no mounts required. I just wear them under my helmet while racing. Plus they are only $18 delivered. Since then I have upgraded to a set of HD video glasses. These cost about $70 delivered. I'm not as impressed with them only because their operation is a little more difficult. You can see the results on Youtube by searching galderdi. The quality is not quite as good once Youtube converts it.
  15. I believe they are there to funnel fresh air around the sides of the engine bay and into the windscreen plenum where it can then be picked up by the interior vent. The idea being it avoids smelly engine bay gases coming into the cabin. Thats why I ditched mine....I love the smell of ULP/oil in the morning.
  16. I think this thread just took the wrong direction
  17. I am hoping you mean hammering them into the guy at the Diff shop
  18. The problem is the "hoon" laws are ambiguos. So if a police officer hasa nasty streak and takes a disliking to you they can find something to categorise you as a hoon. If you accelerate off the lights, even if there is no wheel spin, smoke or noise they could still claim you were hooning even though there was no specific rule broken. If they want to target bad behaviour, no problem, make sure there is rules and supporting legislation that targets that specific behaviour. Its much like the bikie laws. They target a broader group because of a minority that do the wrong thing. They need to stop being lazy and target the specific behaviours.
  19. I have heard that a Ford Falcon tap can be used which was a good mod because it moved the tap to the other side of the firewall. Hence removing the risk of hot dripping water on the feet when it eventually wears out. Sorry I don't have any more detail.
  20. Check the sensor connections around the temp sensors and throttle position sensors. I quite often get a bad connection when I've been playing in the engine bay. The result is exactly as you have described. It will idel fine but as soon as I try to use the throttle it falls in a hole. As soon as I fix the connection it is fine again and remains fine until the next time I play.

    Rear end help!

I agree. I have the WRX STI R180 with Clutch pack LSD and 4.4 ratio. They are worth around $800. Plus the "John C" input shaft converters worth another $600. Unless he got custom CV shafts or adjustable lower control arms, fully re-bushed etc etc I don't see $3000 worth. Maybe he included the cost of a rear brake conversion? Or maybe he got it all gold plated.
  22. If you get stuck I think I can help regarding th heater bits but they would be coming from Brivegas. Let me know if you want them.

    QLD Christmas Drinks

Mine might be there. Although if its going to be called piggish I may reconsider.
  24. Where should you mount a fire extinguisher? In private of course.
  25. Typo: It was meant to be Stephen Hawking.
