    There's no right or wrong way of a bonnet opening, but I think it's better the way it is. If you really want to do that mod, just buy a Commodore!

    Left and right handles can be swapped...cheap way out of it is if your drivers side still has both "ears" you can just swap sides.

    Battery area looks real clean there which is a huge bonus. Another option with the roof dilemma would be to just butt weld in another piece of sheet metal; save yourself a heap of time looking for a donor roof. Are you going to repaint in the original bronze?

    Wax, grabbed a pic of the Patrol sump fitted un-modified and what ground clearance you have...you can understand the need for the mod you did!

    Some problems I've encountered using a multimeter to find + volts in a car is the meter can say 12V but at what current? could be in the milliamps and not enough current to run a deck. Could have a high resistance connection somewhere and the meter can show 12 volts but you connect anything and it won't run! Test lights will either be on bright or be very dim. Tells you straight away what sort of power is available. I've lost count of how many decks I've put in..trickiest one so far was a 280ZX! Wiring was ok but mounting the deck was a PITA! Test light is all I ever used.

    I think Alan meant just new crankshaft bearings; not a whole new crankshaft! My engine rebuild with some performance modifications is going to be a shade under $5000. Nothing serious but just a good freshen up.

    Good idea. That's how I sold my first 260Z; at the Southbank Concourse in Melbourne. Guy came up and had a chat, week later calls me and asks to get the roadworthy and the deal was done.

    Not that long ago an NDSOC member sold a restored and modified 260Z 2 seater for $45,000. It had to be seen to be believed! Doesn't matter that it's just a Datsun; it's worth as much as the person who wants it! Like a Ford GTHO..it's only a Ford! Just wait, till all the good zeds have found premanent homes and everyone wants one....see where the prices will go. Maybe not here in Oz but in other countries.

    Sometimes I find good pieces at a "Enzed" hose and fittings place. they sell brass "T" pieces that replace your corroded one. They may have hose adapters going from one size to another. Worth a look!

    Best tool you need when installing a deck in any car is a test light and to find out which wires are for speakers is a small battery; either a fresh 9V or small gel cell. Something with enough "umphh" to get a "click" out of the speaker. Crude but it works well for me. Find your permanent 12V+, Acc 12V+ with the test light and ground to the chassis and you can't go wrong.

    Gav, another member here bought all the wheels, suspension and brakes off me a while ago. When you see this zed, you'd swear it was mine! Same red etc..

    Thanks for that.. It's crawling along for the moment... need to make a plate to match the headers where they end for the exhaust system. Went to a laser cutting place and got a quote for $140 to cut one out of 8mm plate. A place we supply hardware to can laser cut steel to 6mm so I'll ask them if they can do it for $0. You never know! After I get the exhaust hooked up, I can play with the ECU. Running an engine with straight out headers with infants in surrounding houses isn't a good idea. Youtube video will follow as all you will hear is distortion!

    Another budget / crude way is to bend the strut tube near the bottom for camber. But do it carefully and not too much as the shock won't sit all the way at the bottom. Can get around -1.5'

    Yah, that's why I didn't bother answering... you don't need to do anything extra..just remove the parts and re-install the filter! Doesn't matter now!

    I have here a car bra for a 280ZX in excellent condition. If you have a mint 280 and do regular country / gravel road drives, this will save you loads of paint chips. PM me for more info.
