  1. If you are going with the cap screws throughout the car, I'd get the zinc plated rather than the plain finish (black). Unless you plan on never getting the car wet, I'd get zinc. You are safe with the cap screws; all of them are high tensile grade 12.9 which is plenty. Majority of the bigger M10-12 bolts are the metric fine; make sure before you buy!
  2. Just bought one too... You can never have too many T-shirts!
  3. Well said Chris... As long as you have fun, and there are heaps of great looking/sounding Nissan/Datsun cars, that's all I'm interested in seeing. Call it what you want...who cares?
  4. If you are still running carbs and nothing real power hungry in the zed, stock alternator should be fine... I had to upgrade to a 280ZX one now because of the ECU, fuel pumps, thermo fan, injectors, sensors and everything else that sucks power. Stock 240Z alternator couldn't cope with all that load. Since I installed it, I can tell the difference! Everything runs well when it receives 14 volts instead of 12!
  5. You can never have too many earths. Think of electricity flowing like a highway. You can't have a 4 lane road heading out and a coblestone laneway for inbound traffic; Both have to be as good as each other.
  6. If they fined all those Honda's with fart cannons for excessive noise, the government would get more income than the tax they stick on fuel! Like with everything, only takes one idiot to whinge to ruin it for the masses!
  7. I'll be there as well Rev.. Need to iron out all the bugs before Calder!
  8. Hehehe.... if they are available (at a realistic price) I'd be seriously tempted. How appropriate?
  9. Just curious, would you be interested in selling the plates on their own? Thanks
  10. Not sure how good they are, but on ebay there's someone always selling N1 RB engine blocks on ebay...might be worth a look.
  11. Just curious if anyone is going to the Calder event on the 22nd. Last one for the year before they start handing out $100 fines for loud cars. Getting the zed dynoed this Friday so then I can let all those Kw's loose and hope nothing falls off!
  12. Hmm...always gives you a "hollow" feeling hearing bad news like that! How many dyno runs were also done in those 10 years? I'm sure they stretch the rods a little each time..
  13. Just a small update while we have some spare time due to the horses racing... Sorted the stuff in your zed Fu looking for what we need; and looking at the dog's breakfast of a wiring job that has to be rectified! Doesn't look too bad, just need to spread it out and check and remove all unnecessary wiring . Next pic should have the dashboard all together and ready to test in the car.
  14. One thing to try is to shake the exhaust by hand and see if you can re-create the noise while the engine is off. You could be mistaken by engine detonation rather than a exhaust rattle?
  15. One lovely thing to buy when you are restoring your zed is a nice full metric tap and die set with all the ones you need. It's great for clearing all the tapped threads in the body when they are full of crap.
  16. It depends on the bottom radiator hose connection. 240Z's had the lower rad hose the comes out then 90' up; 260Z radiators just come straight out. If someone has replaced a radiator anywhere in the car's life with another model, you have to check.

    Rota Wheels

hahahaha...exactly my thoughts too. Looks likeyou could only fit a 215 tyre max with that clearance. Or 225 depending on the manufacturer.. Oh well. will this offer possibly extend into next year?
  18. Sounds to me your Regulator has failed. Reason the engine dies is because the car is running off the battery instead of the alternator. If the alternator can't supply enough power, the engine gets that power from the next available supply (battery), after that is gone...engine stops! A battery with nothing running/being used should be around 12.5. With the engine cranking, go no lower than 11.0V and with the engine running with most accessories on, be around 13.8V. Most auto shops should carry those regulators...or go to a wrecker that have warranties for the cheapest option.
  19. Blowing up? Do you mean back firing?
  20. If your starter is at fault, you can also use a starter out of a VL or R31 Skyline. Only thing is the solenoid comes close to the steering rod but doesn't touch. Bonus is the VL ones are planetary geared so take less power when cranking. Just a suggestion if you can't find a Nissan one.
  21. Hmm..have you been testing missiles as well? Did you mount the caliper at the 12' position Lurch?

    Noob Question

Definately yes; been done to almost every zed on the road today.
  23. My oops happened to my Z32 when I owned it.. Where I used to work, backing into a spot in the wee hours of the morning, everything dark, looking in one mirror as I'm reversing, didn't check the other one until "crunch!" Forgot about steel staircase pole in the other mirror just inside of line of car park space. The bright morning light later on when I checked it revealed the nice big dent and scrape on the side above the rear bumper on the quarter panel.....then the loudest profanities you have ever heard echoed the carpark.
  24. Not sure if you want to follow this up, but I know Rob at the Z Factory in Mordialloc is restoring a 240Z to sell. Body is still on the rotisserie while the body work is being done. All the rust has been removed and replaced with metal. If you want to have a chat with him and see what can happen? Just a thought.
  25. A 260 I had previously had similar panel damage in the rear quarter like yours! Metal pounded flat then made out of bog. I replaced almost half the panel from a donor zed! You did a great job of repairing it... With the Nutsert gun, we sell them at my work far cheaper than that! I could've supplied you with the nutserts, tools and stainless screws for the flares...oh well..
